Actually this game is not that good when compared to games like Deus Ex 1 or Vampire Bloodlines. But compared to the sorry state of today PC game market it is good enough. PC version also suffers a lot from being a console port. I would guess that people who complained that Witcher 2 felt a lot like a console game would hate it in this game even more.

Hmm, I wasn't too impressed with the 1st game. Missions were all predefined. You go into them, lose or win if you are lucky and then reload the game to where you pick your ships for the mission and then try to win with different combination. Rinse and repeat until you find a combination that wins for that mission. Stupid way to design a game.
I must say this game looks real interesting. I wish I had time like when I was younger to kill off hours playing FPS games :D

I would say Age of Wonders does it great. My lvl 15+ hero there is very powerful. It can singlehandedly kill any faction top monster 1v1 and lose just a bit of health. But it cannot defeat whole armies, especially when spellcasting comes into effect. If I send him too far ahead they can gank him and kill him. And it is perfect this way. Better then MoM when once you got a group of 5 heroes with a couple of levels each and some equipment there was nothing the AI could do to stop them.
Now, what I wonder is if they are just doing this for the laughs or is this some kind of Anarchy movement using modern technology?
I played Tribalwars a LOT. And it would not be nearly as fun if you could not fight other players directly. I mean I would appreciate a web based 4x game that I can play whereever I am and without installing anything but a browser (and java and flash) on that computer. But the payment system for developers would need to work differently if the game wasn't about killing other players as the player base would not be nearly as big.

If we must have customization then factions need to have access to different special abilities for units as well as different physical look. Of course some abilities can be common, but many need to be faction exclusive. I love how in AoW:SM I can customize my heroes abilities through magic items. And in that game I do not care at all that other units cannot be customizable. I would prefer a similar system for FE as well.

Uff, I finally played Age of Wonder Shadow something (:D) this weekend and from the moment I started it it felt like a much superior product then EWoM. From the more pleasing to the eye art style to the better and more spells, to 10x better and more interesting combat. I knew about the game from before but I always thought it was just another HoM&M clone. Heh, I decided to try out 1.3. I must say I even had fun for a while (not as nearly as much as Civilization games) until the game dropped me to desktop. Then I lost the will to continue :D After million patches the game still drops to desktop :D

Originally I wanted to complain about only there being 9 spells per each school (water, earth,..) but then I saw the whole other groups of spells that you research or find or do quests for and I decided against it :D Great stuff and great artwork. Oh, I hope you put as much effort into making factions as different and the units they use.

What you said was actually similar to what Brad said recently (back 2 weeks or so). He said that he fears FE will replace E:WoM instead of being another game. Maybe at the start they planned to make FE a lot different but decided against it, which kind of goes hand in hand with what he told us much earlier about how they originally planned to much for E:WoM and could not do it all. My fear is that FE will not be different enough and with that not good enough. I am still waiting to put
