As long as they take a slot another unit could use, melee/archer heroes need to be about equivalant in fighting ability to a unit that would take equal cost (offset by the effort involved in leveling heroes) that could have been used instead.

The campaign is good for learning controls, but it leaves out the most important thing (research) and does not give a good sense of how the game is paced. This results in many people losing their first non-campaign game.
Impulse at least should be made multiplatform, then people can download the non-Windows version if they change systems at some point if the company made a version for that system. This would make Impulse more appealing and availible to a wider audiance, so it is likely to have the greatest gain for the cost of porting it.
