Anyone who knows anything about PR knows that those people are gonna show whatever they think looks "cool" regardless of the fact that that "screenshot" is a photo shopped concept that was never running in a build of the game.
You keep posting around that picture of the dragon surrounded by troops. As most people who have been watching the game knows that is from when the battles were gonna be semireal time. Such a thing doesn't make sense in the current system. Sure you could have more numbers of troops but at this point its purely aesthetic.
Too bad it's still in the two page ad in my newly delivered PC Magazine.

GO BUY THIS! Do it now! Seriously, if you have even a SHRED of love for the old SSI gold box games and have even an inkling of knowledge into the workingss of OGL/SRD 3.5 (aka the "free" rules for D&D 3.5) spend the £15 or approximately $23.38 and get one of the best fantasy tactical combat games I've seen in a LONG time. If nothing else, a HUGE amount of
... Tactical combat is another glaring place where AIs can fall prey to this. For everything people rave about in AoW:SM, the tactical AI was pretty bad (some of this due to poor strategic decisions in army construction). Actually it was 'good' in that it behaved 'rationally' but once you figured out how it valued everything, it was too easy to exploit. Why? Because the system was designed to be played with

Right now I rarely see a battle with more than 10 soldiers and that just isn't fun (or a war). After the combat system is upgraded, I would love to see the numbers tweaked.
Apropos of nothing more than your emphasis on the word WAR . This is not "Elemental: Backyard Brouhaha of Parlour Tricks", kids!

This seems more a drama thread then anything else...you were shown how to get what you want by modding, stop crying and make it work if it matters that much to you. But, do not presume to speak for me again, ok?
So the blatant bait and switch on the retail BOX doesn't bother you in the slightest? Or did you see the epic battle and say to yourself "Blah, this looks awful"? You've shown yet agai

Wait. It's a really, REALLY bad representative of fantasy TBS at the moment. You'd be far better waiting until the horribly broken gameplay elements are at least stable (braindead AI, no real diplomacy, insanely imbalance combat mechanics, barely one dimensional magic system). Some people love the game in it's current state, but I think they're really giving Stardock short shrift by not calling them out on the game. Low expectations only lead to bad games.
All this is well known to old school MOM players, most of us just didnt feel the need to type it all out cos for sure it would not apply to EWOM so why bother?
The point is this Mr. Cranky Pants... that sort of depth in wizard creation SHOULD be in Elemental! There are so many freaking options and sub-options and it pains me to see how one dimensional sovereign creation is.
You miss the point. You're judging it based solely on the TBS aspect, which the reviewer states cannot stand on it's own without the RPG elements. And, yes there are many people who buy games purely on potential. You can count me as one of them.
Not in the slightest. The RPG elements of Elemental are MUCH of what sold me on it. And they just aren't there in any meaningful form. Two "class
Potential does sell games to me. I'm willing to take a risk and be part of an evolving project. I knew this was the case here, because it's a Stardock game. Sometimes you have to support a project that is not finished if you want to enable it to reach its full potential. Not everyone is willing to do that, and it's fine -- the world is full of "consumers" without vision, but with plenty of expectations. Elemental isn't quite the

I recently purchased the Prima strategy guide for Master of Magic... might I add for the 3rd time, due to injudicious lending of previous copies =D The ridiculous DEPTH to the game struck me as both a huge part of what Elemental strove for and is ultimately completely missing, with magic being the biggest culprit. Previous posters have pointed out about such niceties as the great customization options for your wizard (aka sovereign, but completely detached since you neve
This really hits the nail on it's head. Unfortunately, I think this is a major reason why many people are scoring this game so low. They are coming into the game expecting solely a fantasy 4X not unlike Master of Magic. They see the RPG aspect as merely window dressing rather than a major component. I am really having a lot more fun when I actually role-play with my characters, rather than see them as mindless pawns expendabl

It's really nice to bet/hope/assume that the AI will magically become an unstoppable juggernaut, or hell even basically competent, but I'm more than a bit concerned given the nearly blank slate that is running the roost now. I'm honestly rather surprised this didn't come up a lot more in testing, even if the preponderance of battles were done in auto resolve. The base enemy sovereign behavior is just baffling to the core: Suiciding sovereigns that can't end their

Some really great points and suggestions! 1. Drastic shifts in numbers Stats are truly one of the great weak points of the game, honestly. Ridiculously out of control multiplicative ones (such as temples of essence in 1.07) and the additive ones you mentioned. And good starting luck (multiple libraries and a couple of "research" champions) and you'd have a massive advantage over other players insofar as a tech rush.
<br /

Perhaps, but the grammar and punctuation are really hard to get past. I've parsed through the first couple pages on Amazon (since they allow you read selected passages) and it's a tough read since there was virtually no real editing.
