They never expand past their 1st town.
They are currently the last faction I am fighting. 31 cities & a 1000+ power rating---difficulty hard.
If you think archers are bad.... (don't) try mounted troups
Yeah i get the same thing with archers mounted & not as well as catapults (though mounted lag time seems to be much worse). It does try one's patience.
Talk about catch-22: how could you see or not see any differences between the beta version & release version if you've never participated in the beta version before?
lol. A Heller reference coupled with logic to boot! Nice.
how many had you captured?, and how many level 5 cities?
hmm..I had not considered to count until you mentioned it. I killed off 5 factions while Tarth killed off four + a minor faction. I am playing with a created faction--just having some fun waiting for 1.1. I have 6 level 5 cities & 8 level 4 that will probably hit five before I wipe out Tarth. I have not actually looked because once you have that many cities it's not realistic to micro ma
and how many enemy factions active?
for me? Down to the last one. Started with all at hard difficulty. Just started war with Tarth. They have 28 & I have 67.
This is actually behavior that I'd like to see different from GalCivs. With GalCiv, you're never going to get attacked if you maintain a certain amount of forces.
I usually found that to be the quality of the units as well. Sometimes even with more than a few of the medium ships another race came knocking (maybe not enough firepower?. I do remember one time 3-4 races decided that they had enough of me and entered into an alliance against me. I have also experienced that
You need to build a few troops just to discourage this sort of activity. The AI decided you were ripe for the taking and moved against you.
Totally agree. At first, I got attacked more than a few times, but the AI hasn't declared war on me in awhile--a little defense goes along way.
Which means that while it may seem follhardy to put all my channelers in one place, one of my kids always has enough mana to teleport the stack to any cities under siege.
That makes sense but what about on a larger map with more factions? Doesn't it take longer using one powerful army like that? Are you able to fight on more than one front with that strategy?
very occasionally I try to move a unit to a good +25%/50% defensive spot if conditions are right, but most of the time it doesn't matter since I level everything with archers & spellcasters.
Yeah same here. If cover were even to play into it, it rarely matters since I generally use archers/cats/spellcasters to defeat opposition. i used to play SL with a college roommate. He had alot of AH games. I am particularly
Phylast, from reading your post, it sounds like you might not be aware of this, forgive me if i am misreading
LOL--no, you are not misreading. I didn't know that. I couldn't remember the name but one of the little shits defeated a magic user & giant duo on a auto-resolve battle initiated by the AI. I haven't encountered many enemy spell casters. Aside from quests, giants, elementals, trolls or occasional demon I have seen no S/C from enemy factions. Confusion, rock slides, some inky black spell, dominate (not sure that even affected me), and once I encountered a flame spell. If I cast a protect friend spell ( I haven't tried it because I seldom get attacked with spells), would that counter a confusion spell? I don't mind so much but it seems that the game would mor

Has anybody noticed that haste seems to last permanently? I used it on a group of archers and got an extra round to fire. The effect has so far lasted for about 40 turns. As far as i know, it is still working. I have another 10-15 turns before I go after the next faction to test it. I did, however, cast the haste again & now have catapults & archers that get 4 shots per round--a significant advantage if you get to attack first. Is this intentional? idk. I had fun with it at first but

I recently encountered a sand wolf creature--I forget the name. I had a fire giant & a channeler. The AI went directly to A/R & I lost. [e digicons]>:([/e] So the next battle with the same creature I had my channeler summon a rock & fire giant & a demonic ally---no automatic A/R and I was able to win; so, it looks like if you have at least 3 in your army the AI doesn't go directly to auto resolve.

16 Replies 54,264 Views
The main trouble seems to be that the A/R uses different criteria for determining win/lose than actually apply.
Thanks. that makes sense.
2) I also think the autoresolve should be "weaker". I mean, part of the game is getting good at it. If the autoresolve will just do it for you, where is the skill involved? I guess my point is, you can't expect an automatic feature to measure your skill, that has to be done in normal mode.
concur. But sometimes there is no way--by any experience level--that one would lose a given battle. It is like the AI's planning. I never get attacked unless I initiate
