It is only natual and heatlthy to compare like games. The game most compare this game to is MOM but others have been compared to. I think we want may of the features in those other game but made modern and better.
It certainly makes sense to compare games at the same point in their development cycle. But the current beta for Warlock is a week old, extremely late beta, and the game releases tomorrow.
Also Kalin, I'm not a huge fan of comparing games and I tried not to focus on that. The reason I brought up Warlock at all was because it made the issue of murkiness/muddiness clear for me (in that it had none of it). There's a very good chance I'll hate Warlock once I play it more (I'm definitely getting it), and I have no doubt that I'll keep playing FE when new versions come out.
There's

Having played the legit beta of Warlock for the last month, I can honestly say it is a far less ambitious game than FE in many respects, and good fun. It's much further along the curve to completion because it's due out in a couple of days, while FE is due out in the fall. For all the mid-beta issues one would naturally expect with FE at this point, I actually find it more compulsively interesting than Warlock, but I prefer more complex strategy titles.

The problem seems to be that to the monsters, the AI-run content--cities,
I played all my games on the default settings (Moderate/Moderate/Medium/Balanced) outside of difficulty which was set to hard. I agree that the challenge currently is from the randomness of monster placement - I imagine dense is a lot tougher - I will give that a shot.
Dense is tougher at the start. More monster lairs. Also more challenging to play this way against enemies, since the monsters don'
Interesting, so your Pariden Soverign doesnt melee much? which means no need for flame blade.
I give it to my chosen champion, who carries my leader's crown.
Yeah summoner is nice early on but I thinking long term...
Thing is, Pariden is such a wimp at melee, that you'll likely to need spellbooks from the start to deal with any battles at all, or Summoner.
Another option would be to add another screen to the trait selection screen. When selecting a spell trait, but before you click OK, this screen would pop up. It will show you exactly what spells will become available. Mockup: http://i.imgur.com/j775b.png The spells listed there can be clicked to be shown in hiergamemon, or hovered over to read their description. This additional screen is SCROLLABLE and DYNAMIC (think of the modders, please).
Logically we should use Pariden? Profession : Summoner or Warlock i guessing Warlock is more powerful since summons are weak?
Warlock has longterm advantages, but Summoner gives you the Summon Shadow Warg spell from your first turn. Given how poor Pariden leaders are at melee, and how many heroes you acquire aren't especially good at this either, it's very, very helpful in the early game. <br
Yeah, the current leveling is a bit too rough. It was a bit too easy before, but now it feels like it's impossible to get past level 12 or so... which means you aren't going to get those spells unless you only pick one path and get really lucky or something. They probably needs to ease off on it a bit. Right now the only way to get high spell level seems to be at char creation, put all your points into spell books.
...Or you can hope the developers include some AI rules negating the question every single turn. As no other turn-based strategy game has included this request for entry each turn, I have to wonder whether it be included in the final release.

It gives the core mechanics well enough, but needs an update, as you state. Still, if someone wants a sense of how the game differs from WoM, or just what it's foundation is, I think the info on that link is pretty good. As I noted in a thread below, it's intermittent for me. Sometimes, the bolt comes directly from my unit, and will stay that way for that entire battle. But probably two out of three battles, it still comes from the side.
+ Fixed an issue causing mage staves and occasionally arrows to shoot in from the side of the screen
Still happening with Panca Archers. EDIT: Intermittent. Saved, quit, reloaded, and got into another battle where it didn't happen, at all. Then later still, it happened again throughout another battle.

These mini patches, as I understand it, are for fixing bugs and dealing with balance issues.

I want to see an animation of a little guy being led in, in handcuffs, followed by the defender pointing out and shouting, "It's him! He's the one who's been shooting at me from the sidelines whenever me and my pals have been going up against this other gang, officer! I'd recognize that scar, anywhere!"
