when you say you can't connect to the web... does it mean the connection icon thing (in sys tray) say no connection (big red cross/yellow warning sign) or does it say there's a connection but you can't actually get anywhere. (eg.. ping anything and the ip is resolved to 1.1.1.1 or some rubbish) is it that pc only? or maybe it's the router? (aside from that... no idea.. i know my router goes on the fritz from time to time giving the sympton i described...

btw... if you plan on upgrading... have a look at your antivirus/security suite for proper compatibility 1st... for example, from what i read in their forum, kaspersky 2016 is supposedly compatible but apparently has some caveats. and bugs. not to mention what steps to take (with the av/etc) to prepare for the upgrade

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/07/30/windows-10-privacy-settings/ http://www.ghacks.net/2015/07/30/windows-10-and-privacy/ far more concerning than forced updates. wonder if anyone dug through and compared the eula between the beta and retail.. especially the keylogging bits.

i seriously don't understand what the hang up is about 8 months. if a machine has been sitting on the shelf for 8 months.. then when someone buys it and turn it on.. one would imagine it'll have a load of old updates autoinstalled as soon as it connects to the net. to bring it up to speed in stages... before dumping yet another load of updates after that. sort of like you have to install sp1 before sp2, etc, except it'll be automatically done if it hasn't been manually done be
Now we have "Important" update KB2952664, described by MS as follows: This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows. Tells me nothing, and my experience doesn't need easing, so I don't think so.
that's part of the nagging

your keyword is "store"... not "retrieve" in any sort of reasonable speed or "search". someone will open up the vault and find a whole load of dust thinking whatever it was has crumbled XD

eh.. depends on what you mean. you don't have to use windows at all. ever. but you might not be able to play a lot of games. and definitely won't be able to play dx12 only games (probably will take a while for that to happen). aside from that. there might be some programs that are windows only. no idea what they are, but they probably won't be your average day to day usage ones. obviously, when you buy a new machine, it'll probably come with win1
And what happens if one buys a used PC or laptop that has Pro on it that gone beyond those 8 months due to it sitting on a shelf somewhere? No updates forever, or buy a copy of the OS to do a complete reinstall? The entire concept stinks. [e digicons]>:([/e]
what? i think it'll just auto update. also don't understand why you would have to buy a copy to do a rein

well.. you would think in the 8 months, sys admins would have managed to set up a test machine witih the updates to make sure updating won't kill their system and update at their own pace well before that 8 months are up. surely it's better than something similar to people still using win server 2003 (or whatever it was) even though the plug has already been pulled last week?

i don't think that's true. problem with news sites is that they don't update fast enough to keep up with current stuff XD https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/ only 203 and before are blocked..... 209 is okish till the next hole is found (no doubt soon!) --- no idea why 209 won't install for you.. maybe you should uninstall it completely and only use flash

14 Replies 50,237 Views

XD sorry. 18.0.0.209 don't forget to untick all the mcafee crap and remember to update all the versions that you need (ie - pre metro anyway, firefox) ps.. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ tells you which version is the latest.. and if you go to the flash player part of control panel (win) it'll tell you what version you have for which plugin.
