I would be happy to try it out, but it will have to wait until after vacation. Anything, anything at all to make the magic of this game less face-bashingly boring is something I will try. I would mod it myself, but between not knowing how to do anything more than manipulate existing HTML, and not caring enough to spend time unbreaking a game that is marginally fun when I could be playing one that is already fun.
Very little of what I identified months ago has been addressed on any significant level. Spell progression is still erratic in pace, static in improvement, and usefulness of spells is still largely hinged upon the RNG deciding to place the correct type of shards near your spawn point. For a "Strategy Game", there is far too much randomness and too many holes in the current system to make the "path of magic" anything other t

If these are the last features to go in, then sadly I have to say it's pretty underwhelming. Lots of stuff missing, even considering just the UI issues and requests people have been detailing recently. For instance, personally I think the absence of a no-spells-autoresolve button (which, actually, people have been asking for for an year) is almost a deal-breaker by itself, since it forces you to do a lot of tedious and unnecessary work. I don't mean to imply that the devs shou

While I'm aware that at this point a Spells & Magic Overhaul was unrealistic, I kind of hoped for a longer development cycle for Beta 5. Too little time has passed for any significant changes in Magic to surface now :( Well this weekend I'll see, I guess...

Such mixed feelings for this game. Some things are just spectacular, like a few of the screenshots above. And moddability is great. Clever too. If the game will become a "standard platform", everyone's going to have to have it. Stability apparently went up somewhat, too. Now, if only magic could be more magical...

You're perfectly right of course. It may catch you by surprise, and you're supposed to deal with it with the photographic memory that you're also supposed to have. It's always bothered me as well, and it should be a pretty basic UI feature too... but after WoM's UI, you can see why people feel already blessed with what we have now. Also you don't see such issues mentioned a lot because there are deeper ones to fix. Maybe in the expansion?

Yes, we always come back to this: MoM. MoM had everything: diverse races, naval units, flying, sieges, alchemy, artifacts crafting, spells that really affected the gameplay... you name it. Frankly there's no comparison. If only we could get MoM with an updated UI... Only thing I really ever needed. This is why I don't think FE deserves too high praises or scores: not out of spite, but because it wouldn't just be fair to the games of the past, that did so much
Mastroego, a lot of the things you hope for might just be possible. Why don't you post a long post in my other thread (suggestions on how to mod FE to make it better) and I will look into it. It will need to be in depth though because a lot of stuff would need to be changed. Spells revamped, probably shard changes, new spells, new spell requirements, changing the magic tech tree, etc. Let me know what you think there.
I'v

Spells. Make them "less bonusy" and "more effecty". Spells that do something unique instead of altering what you're already doing. Again, refer to MoM, you can't go wrong. Also, rework as possible the hero leveling system since right now it only allows to build "multiclasses" - and somewhat randomly, at that. It's not organic nor fun. I want to be able to build a barbarian warrior, or a frail caster with LOTS of spells. Epicness. S
I am curious Mastroego, what about the magic system do you not like? Is it the variety of spells or something else? Spells can be easily created and modded in. I might try my hand at that myself. Or is it something else? Why don't you post in my other topic about suggestions to make FE better, tell me what you think would make a better magic system and maybe I can somehow mod it in.
Well see in MoM magic was central&nbs
I just can't agree with you Mastroego. The game is shaping up very well for me and I only have a few minor issues with it. Also, it is easy to see how things are different this time around in my opinion. People are mostly complaining about bugs and balance issues which can be fixed, they are not complaining about the core mechanics of the game, only a few are. I guess maybe that doesn't mean anything but then how can anyone determine eit
Maybe theres too many sycophants on this board , those guys are always happy with anything and just the fact some dev answer them is making their day. I am pretty sure they were happy with elemental already. ... Do not tell me again theres a silent majoirty that agree, the silent majority in this case shelved elemental and does not even give a look to this beta. I take time to comment because i still care about the game . Now relea
I think the amount of experience is very good at the moment and it makes the potential trait really useful, but with the random generation of traits at each level it can be very difficult to get all the traits you need to be a powerful mage. In my opinion the number of avaible traits at each level should be increased to give the player more options and to help mage Sovereigns and Champions.
Yeah, this game makes basically al

A couple of questions, if I'm allowed :D Love the reliquary! Is new art still being added for consistency? Do you guys have something planned to make magic more interesting and/or MoM-like?
Quoting mastroego, reply 98 I've only seen Brad say that once and I was simply offering a suggestion. No need to get defensive on someone else's behalf. It wasn't necessarily a helpful post as much as it was someone complaining generically about a couple parts. I don't know why he doesn't like those parts, he just says "I don't like X or Y". And asking about modding tools isn't helpful. It's a qu
Methinks that FE just isn't the game for you, then.
I wonder what kind of clever angle people think they're having when they do such remarks - using even the exact same words used by Brad in countless posts. Do you get a reward? As a matter of fact, the CEO himself asked customers to give their opinion of Beta 4. This is feedback. Also, it's been said repeatedly that FE aims to a

Not only in the early game. I can interrupt the game I was trying (on Beginner) since I dominate already, and the Magic Tree is almost completely researched: the most powerful of my very few spells is Summon Ice Elemental, which with 3 water shards still sucks. My regular units can have this guy for breakfast. Magic is indeed, once again, almost absent from the game. They way it is woven into the game is basically wrong, imho, and would need to

Had a fairly long session yesterday. Difficulty BEGINNER, with one less opponent to have more room to maneuver (to avoid going 1000 times through the initial stages of the game). So, some more organized thoughts. What works: The new cities. Finally. Back in Beta 1 or 2 we were told that changing City Management was outside the scope of the beta...but we bitched and moane

Had another run. I'm having a lot of fun, despite the various issues here and there. It seems there is a solid core, at last. The game is difficult, though. Of course I hardly know how it works yet - still, getting a newly found village hammered by 100+ attack monsters seems harsh. I wouldn't know how to counter that even with the "Hero Squad" as defendants. Every other faction is more than doubling my power score after a handful of turns... not sure what they're d

Some issues I remember from yesterday night: I have a multi monitor settings (the second one is a projector). It's usually off but Elemental detects *its* resolution instead of the main one's and prompts an error message at start. The game starts anyway and everything seems to work, except that side-scrolling only works on the left side of the screen. When I change the building order all the relevant informations are only up

I only had the time to start a game, so these are only the very first impressions and no vote yet: Good: - Cosmetic polish (much, much better) - Music (much, much better) - City specialization of course Not so good: - I could only build the first city. There's mountains behind it and desert everywhere else. Behind a chokepoint, the enemy. Maybe just bad luck -

Some of us have fought long and hard against such nonsense. I guess there are still unlockable heroes, but this little line brings legitimate hope. :)

I think Text Justification would matter more than the chosen font. Un-justified text looks somewhat amateurish. There's a reason why publications of all kinds use justified text. ;) I too like the spellbook
