Defender comes with Chain Proficiency, and I think you can choose Plate Proficiency at Level 3 if you want (as long as there are no skills that are required for Plate Proficiency apart from Defender).

If it can't set the destination to a city if it's one tile away, how can the monster AI attack any cities at all? I mean, this should really affect both player and AI equally. Does it?
You can also dispel any unit or city spell you have cast in the Enchantments ledger. Note: City Curses cast by other players require you to cast Dispel Enchantment (which you must have the tech for) to remove. The Enchantments ledger only covers spells you have cast yourself. If you happen to vassalise another side and get their Sov, you get their personal enchantments for free and there is currently no way to remove them anyway.

Yes, it is very rare that you will regularly alternate ally, enemy, ally, enemy etc. Normally, the units in an army have similar initiative.
Well, based on when computer games started, almost Everything was innovation. As time goes on, the less and less things can be innovative. So yes, it is more difficult to make true innovation with games released at a later time. ;-) But yes, things to make the endgame more interesting and less predictable would be very welcome IMO. =)

Yes, but it has been adapted for LH. Which means there are no more champions on the map AFAIK.
The sharing the same square is caused by monsters and AI making their movement calculations at the same time. It is so for performance reasons so there is not a big delay each turn. While it would be nice to get rid of the sharing squares issue, it would also cause a big increase in time between turns.

What is the difference between a hero that can only be obtained from a Quest or Event and a hero that can show up at Fame milestones? ie. what prevents a Quest Hero from appearing at Fame milestones?

Alexandros, who you can choose to save from the Martyr's Path Quest, has Jordur's description and backstory text. You might want to either remove it or put in custom text to do with how he came to be in your employ.
Does it matter if some units still have non-Pierce attacks? At least in the previous version (1.1c I think), the units in Reliquary_UnitTypes.xml have non-Pierce attacks. Do they get automatically converted to Pierce, the only physical attack type now used?
So far it does not seem as there are any units with 1 without also having 1 . What is the definition of the tag, considering that it is applied to units made with your editor and thus a tag likely to be functional?
Maybe a more powerful Knights of Asok befitting the later game Alliances tech could be included in the next version of LH?

It is an extra action (or rather, your unit's next action in the queue is moved to now). You don't use Rush before you move, you use it After you move, which gives you another move, and a better opportunity to position and attack.
