Or ambush. Unit attacks enemy that moves into adjacent tile. This could be done automatically, based on the dexterity stat or unit abilities. It would be similar to X-COM or Jagged Alliance, how you would want to use only some of your unit's movement points so they'll have enough left to react if an enemy appears.

Relates to this idea (monster spawn dependent on terrain type): https://forums.elementalgame.com/388203 And ideas for elemental resistance here: https://forums.elementalgame.com/388176 It should be possible, even desirable, for an ice wizard player, for example, to change his territory into an icy tundra. This should gi
So that icy creatures spawn in icy areas, fire creatures near volcanoes, and so on.
Willpower could also contribute to magic resistance. So a powerful wizard could hold back a big firewall. It would be nice, too, especially in a campaign mode or single player mod, if you had to suit up your soldiers, say, with heavy winter gear to assault an ice wizard. Items could give both pluses and minuses. For example, heavy down coats would give ice resistance, but be vulnerable to fire.
Elemental resistance? Glass armor could have insulating properties against electricity and fire. Some of the new races could have innate elemental resistance. This would add a nice Pokemon touch, lol.

Some of this may already be implemented, just not available in the current beta. The whirlwind spell, for example, could be useful in tactical combat. Or teleport. I used to play an MMORPG called Dofus. I would just rip it off wholesale. They have tons of fun tactical spells and abilities. Lots of differentiation between character types, too. I'd like to have more capability to push units around, freeze them, and alter the terrain to my advantage.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8751953/Elemental0_90-2010-07-17T07-37-56-857.zip I clicked on a town, I think, and it crashed.
Only two tactical combats so far, so not sure yet if these problems occur in every battle or just some. 1) Janusk seems to be broken. He can neither move nor attack. The bandits I fought didn't attack, but just chased my sovereign, which was disappointing; but I guess that's a valid tactical choice. 2) In trying to run away, I moved into the clouds at the edge of the tactical map and just--disappeared. The end turn button grayed out, and the bandi
I'm not too clear on what essence is now, but I think it would be cool if it was like magic blood. Maybe parallel to chi, or to the glowing veins that appear on your character's body in Fable 2. When you give some of your essence to a champion, it's like you're giving him your blood. There could also be magic attacks that drain essence, and if essence hits zero you die.
It's good to have that as an option. I like fog of war, though. At least, when playing multiplayer or when the AI takes advantage of it. With the passive AI in the beta, fog of war is just an annoyance. It's more fun when the enemy sneaks up on you. Someone suggested allowing towers or castles, outside cities, to expand the player's line of sight.
The game just crashed. This was the standard crashed-while-clicking variety. What's interesting is there were two crash reports in my folder. I had seen a strange graphics glitch just before this crash and forgotten to take a screenshot. Maybe when I closed that game it captured some useful information in the crash report. I don't think it is possible. Not sure if it's been suggested yet, but it should be.
I guess you could use trial versions to do the format conversions, and then work in Blender? I prefer to keep things as "honest" as I can, because otherwise you're learning skills you can't use professionally (unless your workplace has those high-end 3D apps). Maybe there's an importer/exporter for one of the less expensive apps, like Hexagon ($250), Carrara ($150-$550), or Cinema 4D ($1,000). Blender would be ideal.
Thanks. Replying in that other thread.
Is there something in the XML that effects spawn rate of male/female champions (and civilians)? A Races of Women mod would have to tweak many dozens of entries, if not.
I know a lot about 3D modeling and animation, but I haven't done a project yet that puts it all together in practice. Am planning to make lots of mods for this game as a learning experience. Searching for "HKB Blender" I couldn't find much, just old forum posts saying they couldn't find much either. I think the NIF scripts for Blender might support the format, but I haven't tried it yet. (Pretty busy now learning other things.) When anyone does learn
I like this idea, but elemental spellbooks should still exist, so that you can have an Ice Wizard or Fire Wizard and so on. The elements are thematically strong and iconic...that is to say, elemental . [e digicons][/e]
Thanks. That gives me some good new keywords to search. I found lots of savegame editors written in VB, but not one tutorial on how it was done.
For spells/research, I would add that the "completed" screens need to be more informative. In a recent game, I wanted to find out if a) I had researched navies and b) what exactly that does, because I couldn't build harbors in any of my cities. The screens weren't very helpful. I did determine that I had researched navies, but I had to click around a lot, trial and error style.
A comment in another thread made me think of this. A lot of games have different "play style" settings for AI, like aggressiveness or expansionism. There are probably better examples in 4x strategy, but what comes to mind is the different rulers in Civilization. The strategies employed by Genghis Khan and Abraham Lincoln are supposed to be different, and they react differently to diplomacy. It strikes
I'd like to try it out. What I'd really like, though, is to know how to make one. I bet it's really simple once you know how to do it, but incredibly useful. For this one game alone there could be a dozen types of files for which you could create an editor, and then there are files in other games, files you use at work--I'd really like to know how you made this.
Happened twice in a row, which is a little discouraging. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8751953/Elemental0_806-2010-07-10T14-35-35-937.zip <a class="linkification-ext" title="Linkification: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8751953/Elemental0_806-2010-07-10T14-36-12-675.zip" href="htt

Now they seem to happen when I just end turn. This is my first try of the new beta, so I don't know if it happens on every map.
