I've never understood that, taking away felons' right to vote. What are they afraid of, that they'll vote a Crime Kingpin into power? That they'll vote to overturn all laws and the streets will fall to Chaos? If we trust leftwing college professors and rightwing hillbillies to vote, we should trust felons to vote. As for whether pot should be legalized, all you have to do is drink until you pass out three nights in a row, sober up, detox (could take several days to r

So I went looking for Pokemon forums, to see if I could find people interested in my Pokemod! idea. The forum I find looks good. There's even a post from someone, back in February, who was making 3D models of pokemon. I write up an enthusiastic post, click submit--and it tells me I must post 15 comments before I'm allowed to link to external sites. So I go back, edit, add a sarcastic comment about how I'd better find 13 threads in which to post inane comments so I ca

This is really crossing the line on licensing issues, but it might be fun to do on your own PC: Replace all the Elemental music with Pokemon music .

This could be a diplomacy skill: wager. Imagine a dialogue going something like this... PRIPYAT: Prepare to have your city demolished, [Metasoul]. METASOUL: I bet [500 gold] yer can't! PRIPYAT: You're on. Players could choose not to bet, but then their opponent might get a morale bonus. It's like calling your opponent chicken before a fight. Winner gets the normal outcome they'd usually get, p

That's good, but there should still be some jackpots. Gambling is fun. There should be potential penalties or great rewards, however rare. I bet that a rat would drink more water from his bottle if there was a chance that his water would get replaced with lemon juice sometimes.

I agree diplomacy should offer special units and abilities. Spies, diplomats, geishas, ninjas...of my favorite units from other games. This bleeds into asking for kidnap, assassination, theft, and so on (arson would be nice). Diplomacy as of now just seems kind of bleh, just unlocking features of the diplomacy menu, which some players consider wholly optional anyway, and then you have to work to use those options still. Maybe diplomacy could offer bonuses to persua

Abstract is good. This sort of reminds me, in tone, of the Persona games. It has the logic of a dream, which is good. Units should wear ordinary, modern, clothes. Maybe some weird costumes thrown in, too; like cops, clowns (with balloons), and ballerinas. Wouldn't want to go too far with the zany costumes--not far enough to make it comical, but just random and strange. The costumes would be rare equip-able items. I'm sure someone will come up with

The first mod I ever did was to replace all the soul crystals in Morrowind with pokeballs. I wanted to do something more ambitious, but I barely figured out how to model pokeballs and it was just too daunting to mod all the objects in Morrowind (buildings, trees, all the NPCs; it would be a huge task to make that game resemble Pokemon). With Elemental, it just might be possible to do a full-on Pokemon total conversion. Simple first mod: Change the summon spell icons

I wonder about that, too. Does the AI, for example, choose spells based on the actual spell name, or based on what the spell does? If based on what the spell does, then it should use new attack spells just fine. Same for new items; if it chooses them based on what they do, then it will choose new items as easily as originals. If we make a completely new effect, say a spell that behaves like a trap on the battlefield, I don't think the AI will know how to react to t

It seems no crash report was created, and I didn't get a screenshot. I was in tactical combat against a pack of three wolves. I moved forward one tile and attacked a wolf. Then the attack animation kept looping over and over again, and the words miss...-20...-20...miss...miss...kept flowing up above the units' heads. I pressed [print screen] and alt+tabbed out of the game. When I pasted the screenshot into MSPaint, it showed just a black screen (that method wor

Up to this point I had been nearly invulnerable in tactical combat. (Auto resolve, too, it seems--maybe more so there because two attack spells there don't cost me any mana.) So I approached an enemy city with great confidence. I didn't attack their champion because I knew that killing her instantly would only reduce the number of units on the map, and I wanted to see what happens when you kill a champion's sovereign...maybe I could recruit her. So, the last thing I ex

A quest for a great white bull from the ocean. The bull is recruit-able...and marriageable, by female sovereigns. If a player marries the bull, their offspring are minotaurs.
every battle starts with MASSIVE NUKING
I don't know that limiting number of spells per turn is the best/only option, but I opened this thread intending to comment about how unbalanced magic is now. I like that it makes sovereigns powerful/deciding forces, but not every sovereign starts off with combat magic or defensive spells. You could steamroll the early game very easily--just race to firebolt and destroy everyon

There are two huge benefits to this: 1. It opens up .xml modding to people who are afraid of XML 2. It saves you from having to look up what X item or unit is called. It's a database and editor in one, so you don't have to work in your editor (Notepad) while consulting your database (probably another Notepad) with your other hand. The editor could be further improved by including thumbnail images of the items, units, building types, and so on.

Ability to assign hotkeys to units or groups of units would also help with this type of thing.

I don't know. In the last beta, I got a lot of movement bonuses from tech research. Adding three more potential movement points make these mounted unit move like jet fighters in Civilization games. Finesse might work, if it enhances the fantasy aspect of the game. Units could become so fast that it's supernatural--faster than any normal human could move. Such that only supernatural opponents can face them. But, that wouldn't come from technology research.

Not sure what kind of scripting would be required to make monsters home in on the human player and move towards his town, so I think the first of your two ideas would be the easiest to implement. That should just be a starting point, though, to get the ball rolling. The idea reminds me of the Warcraft 3 campaign in which the undead had poisoned the human's grain and the villagers were turning into zombies. On one level, I think, you had to stop a caravan from deliverin

On a related note (they may have already changed this in 3B, but I didn't see it in the changelog), it would be nice you could see an overview of the city while that specialization screen is up. Sometimes the screen took me off guard and I wasn't sure which city I was choosing a specialization for. If that isn't changed, I'll have to name my cities with specialization in mind from the beginning to serve as a reminder when the screen pops up.
