There were 3 things that I found fun in MoM (and MoO 2) that I'm waiting on for Elemental. Diverse playing options. Each race offering a unique experience, plus each spell type (fire, air, etc) also changing that experience in a unique way. Unfortunately, the difference between each seems rather shallow right now, I am sure this will improve over time and with mods. Fun tactical battles. This is a combination of mechanics and AI... interesting spells and non-spell abilities ar

I am a game programmer and i wrote an AI for my game that does most the things on your list... in one day. I haven't added in personalities that will vary the strategy or even allowed my AI to be aware of many game mechanics such as spells, but it is still good enough to beat an experienced player. The only reason I can think of that it hasn't been addressed is that its deemed low priority. If elemental ever releases an inte

is it a coincidence that most people talk about starting with fire/air shards but not other types of shards (i thought there was at least 4 types of shards)

I suggest magical items that give bonus damage that ignores defense. For example, a sword could have +5 fire damage and each attack would do at least that much damage unless the opponent dodges (assuming that defense and dodging are two separate stats). This way if you adventure enough you get nice items that help you kill the hermit also auto-resolve should cast spells, and also have a check box (use spells/do not use spells)

Well we already know that the AI doesn't plan ahead with its resources very well so once that is fixed the AI will be better able to make resource trades. I think that alone will solve most of the exploit problem... not sure about DC itself. It seems to me like DC should be difficult to acquire, maybe diminishing returns?

i disagree that this game needs lore... MoM had no backstory at all (besides whatever stories you make up about Merlin, Rajak, etc)... and that game was great! So Elemental should focus on making the game fun to play before worrying about stupid crap like story. At the end of the day the most popular games in the world have no story, story is not a necessary feature for games, if you want story read a book or watch a movie. If you want a good story, well then you will have to wri

Every game since Daggerfall has dumbed down the gameplay a bit. I expect no better from the next game. In fact, the only thing I can rely on is that it will be buggier than the previous game.

Hey, everyone! There is this old game that I used to play as a kid, its called supaplex It is an awesome puzzle game where you eat green circuit board to clear space and move around. Objects all have gravity so you can crush yourself if you aren't careful. There are many levels and some of them can be very challenging, though having a little dexterity with the arrow keys can let you make small shortcuts i think. The game is very addictive! Has anyone else p

Well... unless you think it will get cheaper by the time you upgrade your graphics card... i don't see why you can't buy it now and hang on to it if it doesn't run well. Have you tried the demo? That will give you firsthand information. That being said, I rarely by games at launch anymore. After so many disappointments I have decided that I will wait until the games go down to lower prices before buying them. If you get into the habit of playing games 1 or 2 years after they come out,

The nice thing about the Internet is that you can be anyone you want to be. I can be a millionaire or a sky diving instructor... whatever I feel like, as long as I can convince other people to believe me. Its very antiquated to associate people's real life identity with their on-line identities. (even for an idea from 2 years ago) That being said I don't believe its the fault of any group of people that women are less prominent in certain parts of our culture. The real culprit is the

I have 2 suggestions, which while they don't really make a system on their own, can modify another idea to make it better 1) People should be the main resource. You should be able to raid towns and villages to capture people and force them to work for you (maybe for the empire races) and conversely free enslaved workers from towns and have them join your towns out of gratitude. This should not require you to defeat a city, perhaps citizens need to be allocated to resour

Build it yourself! Its a waste of money to buy from one of those vendors, and its fun and informative to build one yourself. Plus you can get exactly what you want/need based on your lifestyle. This system guide is a little bit out date but you can check newegg for newer deals. You can probably save $$ by not getting a blu-ray drive and re-using a dvd drive from an older computer. You can also buy an extra graphics card for SLI. If you don't want a sound card either, you

I suggest using free stuff whenever possible. There is lots of LGPL stuff for you to use, just look for stuff that has a strong support community (Active forums). I am currently writing a game in C++, its completely 2D, we are using CEGUI to manage all of our images and interface. We use RakNet for multiplayer (free until you start making lots of money, even afterwards pretty cheap IMO). We were using OpenAl for sound but it was buggy so we switched to Audiere and it works great!!!</p

I have no opinion on the game... except being able to play each class as female is awesome : D But i will bravely predict the release date of Diablo 3: December 31st, 2011. If I am off by +/- 2 weeks, I hope you will still be impressed with my foresight. I don't think they will announce the release date at Blizzcon but I am pretty sure they will give an estimate of "second half of 2011" or "early 2012" similar to what they d

Next time use the edit button instead of triple posting? And changing something to python should be really simple... python is very very easy to pick up if you are a programmer. Anyways, I will probably not buy elemental if this feature is not going to be added in, but it sounded like a sure thing...

Dota was created by Eul (and maybe a few helpers) ... in Wc3 before frozen throne came out... he had to extract the data from the maps using WinMPQ to do so. I don't know who made DOTA allstars, but I feel like Icefrog probably isn't anything special. But in case you were curious, I can almost guarantee that Dota 2 will be free to play with microtransactions. There is a small chance they will charge money for it up front, but I think its very

I am a big fan of MoM, AoW, MoO... and I am very new to Civ. I would say Civ 5 cannot satisfy my desire for a 4x game. I love culture, wonders, happiness, specialists, all of the mechanics around cities. My main problem is that there are too many penalties for basic actions in the game. The way that unit maintenance costs scale is both hidden and arbitrary. The huge costs in happiness and an inability to quell rebellion in the early game is pretty disappointing. The uni

Ever since Gamestop bought EB the PC section went downhill. But let me get straight to a crazy story from ~3 years ago. I walk into gamestop as I am prone to do. I go straight to the PC section to check for games that recently dropped in price. Then I see a sign. "Buy 1, get 1 free (equal or lesser value)". Maybe I just don't get out much, but that was the only time in my life I have seen video games of any kind at buy 1, get 1 free. I don't remember exactly but I am pr
