I think that exp should be constant, based only on the strength of the enemy at the beginning of the battle. Otherwise, it will encourage people to play in only one way to get optimum exp, which is basically an exploit.

I think its interesting that people are talking as if the game score is based entirely on game mechanics. However Art + Music + Sound FX are all important too. These things add immersion and personality to the game. I hope FE does a good job in this area, though it is also the most subjective and least scientific part of the stupid numerical game rating system.
I definitely agree with your logic Brad though I am puzzled that you wrote the code without the event based system in the first place. Is it customary to go back and add-in the event based system after the code is working or was this a deliberate decision that was inherited from EWoM?
First of all, none of the consoles / mobile devices are well suited to playing the kind of games that Stardock makes. Secondly, its a huge investment to switch since none of the consoles use standard development kits/languages. If you want someone to blame for this, point fingers at Microsoft, Sony, Apple, and Google.
Is FE really that limited in map size? MoM was ~50x50 but there were 2 worlds, so thats closer to 75x75 total. Only 30% of that was actual land mass, while FE probably has ~75% usable land mass (I consider mountains unusable). I would hope that I could run 100x100 at high settings on a moderate computer.
I just wanted to say that I really agreed with this post so I made my own about Diplomacy. Good stuff in here.
I'll give a quick summary based on your points then, for those TLDR types. 1) I think that power score should only be part of diplomacy to evaluate whether you want peace with someone and how much you value a military alliance where they are expected to fight your enemies. 2) Its good that its shown, but also these modifiers are a bit simplistic and uninteresting. There should be more interactions between play style, magic usage, and complex evaluations of end gam
Hey guys, As you may know, I am not in the Beta, however I have been reading the forums every day and watched the 2 lets plays that have been posted. I came up with this idea yesterday and thought it is pretty good. Let me know what you think, and please clarify stuff I don't understand about FE. I just read that beta 3 will be improving diplomacy, so i'll update when that's released. First of all, diplomacy in 4x games is an important aspect, i'm looking
I realize you guys are curious, but if the plans leak then we could find a weakness and exploit it. You will have to wait until its fully operational...
I've gotten a tour of Blizz studios during my extremely brief stint as a member of the press. It was indeed awesome. Certainly at the very least when FE launches Stardock should have an open house or something at meet with some of the fans. If they aren't too busy with patches that is...
Where in california are you going to be? If its in the bay area, maybe I can buy you a beer or something [e digicons][/e]
I say enjoy it while it lasts and maybe give some good feedback on high level heroes. I think there should be some epic level stuff to reward you if you ever get that high.
Well then, just say no? I guess its an interesting design philosophy whether or not to purposely include choices that the player will probably decline or ignore, but do you really want Stardock determining how you should play? Its up to you, thats part of the appeal of 4x games... the sandbox nature. I guess they could make every quest have a good option and and evil option like SWTOR, but personally i find that it somewhat detracts from the roleplaying
First of all, I think its your browser that does the spell-checking. Second of all, I haven't read the book but I am assuming your idea of "good" and "evil" is just your opinion. I personally don't agree with your points, its fairly normal for an evil intellectual type to sit in the back and have his champion go around fighting (darth sidious and darth vader, for example). I think they should focus on just adding spells, we can make a mod later to restrict to certa
Vista 64 here. Microsoft and/or PC vendors should have gone 64-bit only with Windows 7. Yes it sucks that I can't run 16-bit applications, but life goes on.
Usually "Normal" is the full AI with no bonuses. Frogboy said as much but I am not 100% what FE is using right now (for example, it could be Hard is the full AI in the current beta, I don't know). You should just play on normal and not worry about it.
People are always complaining about adding new stuff to the UI... but they can always make it a checkbox in the options menu whether it is displayed... so don't worry about it. Also, being able to easily see your income is essential, especially when messing with tax rates. Also, more videos please!!
http://www.obsidianent.com/jobs.html also, apparently they are hiring o.O
I can sort of see MXM111's point. It really doesn't have to be limited to weapons, but in general modern strategy games are going towards almost every unit having an active ability as well as a few passive abilities. Heroes 6 and Kings Bounty: Armored Princess are good examples. It makes the battles more interactive and fun, instead of move, attack, move, attack, every single battle. My suggestion would be abilities like Hammer Smash: An attack that ignores defense, 3
@athelasloraiel Steam is very secretive but the general concensus is 30% is what they take. 70% is much better than what some devs get (5-10% after all is said and done with traditional retail) so its not the end of the world. I am waiting for the beta to get patched some more, though I am also tempted to buy on Steam so I understand.
I think there should be one per map resources as well, that would put more teritorial conflict in the strategic map. Like a resource that gives all of your units +1 defense or maybe +10% experience. I think more one per map buildings are a good idea but maybe split them across different tech trees so its hard to get all of them.
Obviously its best to buy wherever you are comfortable, but you do realize that steam takes a big chunk of the sales, right? If you buy direct from stardock, you are showing your support of independent developers and giving them more money to make the next game.
I guess it depends why you want to play multiplayer. Usually the main reason is that the AI plays differently or isn't challenging enough. If Stardock does a good job making an AI that learns from humans and imitates their play style... you can have fun with just singleplayer. If you want to play with people you know IRL, then there is no substitute, and people are willing to spend a whole year playing 1 turn by email each day.
I'm assuming that after your soverign reaches the minimum you can cast it as many times as you want with no penalty.
I don't understand, if he offers you a magic seed if you promise not to hurt him, can't you just take it and leave? I think the premise needs to be re-written for the choices to make sense. Maybe you come across a peddler who is selling magic seeds. He offers to trade for a magical item. a ) trade him an item b ) try to steal the seed. If your dexterity is too low (say < 15), then he attacks you, calling magic creatures to aid him in battle
