I like it a lot - for now gold has basically no use

Frogboy: one of the issues mentioned above is AI related. I am not sure, but does diplomacy belong to AI or to design? If diplomacy is AI field, i have examples from recent games of AI declaring war, not doing anything for 100 turns, making peace, and then declaring war/making peace every 10 turns or so. Never met a guy, and he got destroyed. Generally speaking, when war is declared on me, i am attacked 1 in 3 times, and then attack comes after 25 turns or so. It happens that
There are a lot of old threads about this topic. I think that if they were going to change it, they would have done so by now. Then again, they do keep changing the cost of Pioneers.
There is a lot of old topics whether pioneers should cost population or not, but those topics, as far as i know, happened even before outpost were introduced to the game. I can be wrong though.
Plutonium: nope, you do not offended me :) Nor did you insult me, and i think i did not claim being insulted, i was just trying to make a point. I have a feeling, that b/c of my language skill i am not understood. I will try to speak from different perspective. Right now every pioneer I produce goes for a city till almost a middle game, when all the spots are taken. Before i had a choice, now i do not have, if I want to be effective. Pioneers always are used in this or
Ok, couple of clarifications. Outpost were never free. You had to pay for them by making pioneers, instead of making something else. I am not for free outposts, i am for decreased price. It is the same thing with other buildings, and troops etc. If they do not cost population it does not mean they are for free. Regarding conclave - if it does not cost population - in your words "It's a free lunch something that should never be in a strategy game because it's a no brainer". I un
Strange .... My Air elemental is ok, working as intended. Those 3x3 tiles are actually nice, i can summon AE right in a middle of them knocking everyone down.
Consulates don't appear late in the game at all. It's the third rung in the cheapest of the three tech trees. You could choose not to research it in the early game but I don't why you would do that - the first half of the civ tree is filled with super cheap techs that are all about getting the power snowball rolling. I have always picked up roads to outposts as a fairly high priority tech (especially if I have Arcane Monoliths) and
Well, bigger problem is when you have 2 units swarming 10 enemy units in formation :)
happened to me many times. However, i start to realize that frequent loading of a game and frequent auto-save causes a game to really go crazy after couple hours. I now quick save game at the end of a turn, and do not auto-save it, and stability improved a lot.
I confirm, i can summon Air Elemental too.
Agree. Scouts should not be able to make outpost - it would be too easy and too chip (presuming scout is not gone after making outpost). Consulates appear late in game, way too late to justify costs of early expansion. Playing on high difficulties with dense monsters i find myself not building outposts anymore - cost is too much, and risk is too big. Especially if you are forced to leave some lairs unmolested for xp farms.
As the topic suggests - right now it is pretty brutal to spend 30 population just to get an outpost. It would be nice to have, let's say, engineers costing 5 population that would be able to build outposts but not cities.
I agree that for now when you have two lines of 3 troops facing each other, the guy in the middle of a line gets 'swarmed' though he has two of his own troops protecting his flanks. I have also situation where i place a summon in the middle of enemy troops and then he 'swarms' all those around him helping any attack from outside; kind of weird that guy who is surrounded still 'swarms' those who surround him.
first of all, all the exp enhancing skills are the must, if hero is planned to develop. Thus, for couple of levels nothing happens .... I personally think those should be gone, exp enhancers are too good to pass on them, on the other hand, they are totally boring ... second, warrior's skills are kind of boring +1 attack, +2 attack and so on for like 6-7 levels before you get sweep ... On the other hand, playing wizard: you have all this summons, new spells etc. and leveling
Bugs: - i can rename enemy units (unless it is intended :) - monument does not immediately expand the zone - it takes one turn after it is completed - movement problems: i had a situation where i wanted to go to a tile, and the path was chosen through the road and the road was in the fog of war. That's good, the problem is that on my way troops pass through a crate of goodies without picking them up - not sure if intended: when i level her
XP isn't divided if you have multiple champions in an army anymore. I'll keep an open mind on this, but...
I am not sure it will be a problem - as I understand, it is not easy to get many heroes now, since they join you when you get enough fame. Thus, it can be that heroes are far more rare and, perhaps, more powerful than in FE, and stack of doom are to make.
A very interesting new game, now available in steam with immediate access to beta. The point of game is to defend your town from evil forces: werewolves, wolves and other beasts through placing traps, and actively fighting. Half-RPG, half strategy, half tower-defence, very charming game, with great music and atmosphere. It is quite challenging as well, with lots of innovative mechanics. Good example is a 'detection' system - if you are detected by beasts th
I am not sure if our system works. Let's say poor people own 20% of 1 trillion of all money today. If after 50 years they own 10% the standard of living is maintained only if wealth of a country grew to 2 trillions. If they have 5% it requires a country to produce 4 trillions etc. Thus, if the richest of the country grow rich faster than overall country's wealth is growing, then everyone's life standard ultimately is going down. And, in my o

There are differences, inequalities, if you will, in intelligence, talent, mentality, temperament, and so forth. All of these result in a diversity of natural aptitudes, skills, or abilities.
That's not the point
I am not concerned that some they aim at some people who want to have it easy and fast, but that eventually games will be build around model: mindless and looong grind or you pay. Not that i care much, I do not buy their games anymore.
frogboy : quick question. I remember once you have mentioned that eventually you are planning to release environment and show how to write a simple rpg game in it. Is it still happening?
Hehehe, totally agree. For me CoE is more of a sandbox than a game in full meaning of a term. You get couple of toys and have fun till, well, you have no more fun, which comes pretty quickly. If you enjoy this type of a game, where almost winning is not significant (since you cannot build winning strategy, due to randomness), but just to have experience of free-lance exploring and encountering and employing the weirdest of creatures (till world explode or something like that), then it

It is for sale at the moment on Steam for 75% off (that is for the cost of $2.50 US). Like they did with Dom3 they are doing regular release of free patches and upgrades. And they are very responsive to fan posts on the forum.
CoE is not Dom3, it is an entirely different game. I playe
Yea, it is very sad. For me Dominions 3 is the best strategy game ever made, but UI is awful, and lots of micromanaging could be automatized.
It is somewhat similar to Wesnoth, but i like it more, at least judging from a demo. Never played fire emblems :( I did not like in Wesnoth seeking for a kill, that is, choosing always who lands the killing blow, and thus not worrying about winning, but more about leveling your units. Once they you got bunch of high level units the rest was easy. Also this game has unit zone, you cannot just bypass a unit, you have to stop. Finally catapults - very, very cool. In
