I'm working on a massive overhaul (No name for the mod yet, so just Massive Overhaul right now) that's revamping a lot of the issues, but it's just changing existing content or adding. The changes I'd like to make won't occur until after the scripting is enabled. I forget which news/dev post it was but one of them mentioned that they'd hired on a particular person or were planning to hire on someone that has experience in modability and adding flexibility and mod options to games.
To the OP. The largest issue, or it would seem in this day and age, is the diversity of tech any one game has to be able to operate on at an acceptable level. The new "niche" game is one that spikes the hardware requirements out beyond much of the older gear and in the process eliminate many of the headaches that seem to plague EoW to this day. So I would suggest, that the hardware requirements for the Enchantress ex

Warning: I chugged Monster again so this is very long. Also, delaying a game doesn't just affect stockholders. For smaller companies, every time you delay a release I'm sure you lose a handful of possible buyers. If you check these forums there's a lot of people that are impatient - Some rightfully so, and some say

Being able to import Blender would make it easier for even beginners, because you can go from things like Google Sketchup to Blender too. Google Sketchup would be perfect for making low polygon buildings and such, and Blender is a good medium for making creatures and animated models.
For Beta 1Z we are going to do something different. We are hard-coding it to a particular map so that we can better debug any problems players encounter with it. Reduced 85%Original 525 x 516 This is the cloth map of beta 1Z. It’s designed with 4 players in mind and is very tiny. But it should let players “play” through the basic game mechanics of Elemental. I whipped this up in the map editor. This Summer, player

Honestly, in a game like Elemental, 3D is not as important a decision. I can understand 3D in games like Total War and RTS games - Anything where battles are performed in a realalistic manner and physics are involved. Also, in very large games like Oblivion, I can understand the move because it's easier to duplicate a hundred trees with variation than to draw each individual one. Look at Baldur's Gate for example. Each background was meticulously drawn to produce a beautiful gam

How about random names to start with and we can rename them as we go? I'm not creative enough to feel like naming every single object in every single game, but if I build my capital around the base of a mountain, I might rename it Mount Doom or something. XD

Resources, time, and money all fall generally under the same category. I know I'm replying a lot here but I chugged a monster and I have another twenty minutes before I leave for work. XD But time is not an issue for the company - They'll spend years on this project if they can, but it's an issue for us. For all Brad is concerned, they could just sit behind closed doors for a year and then spit out a single massive update that gives us everything we want. But we wouldn'

I had my first OOM crash in weeks as well. http://www.4shared.com/account/file/r0O40K2f/debug.html The map I was playing on was originally generated by Elementerra and I added an island so that I could check out the research tree and let the AI's duke it out. I planned on seeing how they were utilizing the map with the new 1.19 patch and see if it had gotten any more intelligent

Glad I could help. The original was actually adapted from the good cheap fast, but since in database work I was being paid hourly and they were more worried about time since that encompassed both cost and time, that was how it ended up being. And since Stardock has already stated that EWOM will likely end up as a loss when they've finally made full amends and repairations, then time is the bigger issue. That and it was an excuse to try i

This reminds me of something that I had to learn on my own when it comes to database work. It's basically a project management triangle that helps keep everything in focus. You can have either everything you want in a short amount of time but not a lot of quality or functionality, or you can have all the functionality and quality in a short time without the content, or you can h

He tried to be constructive his first time. https://forums.elementalgame.com/395879 But if he's using the phrase add-on I wonder if he's talking about the Wal Mart/Best Buy add ons that were going to be released after 90 days? Brad's already addressed those issues and with 1.2/Fallen Enchantress in the works I figure they're waiting till the game mechanics are finalized and they can repair the

What happens is that the AI always moves units in the same turn order every time. I've noticed this using Blink to jump around the map. So since you can't move through units, the AI will try and maneuver around. The AI never uses the pass turn to just stand still, even if using its turns moves it backwards. I've thought it'd be better if we could move through units so long as the other side was clear like on Civ V, because it would make for better maneuvering and help t

Ah, because there aren't hundreds of programs that take the exact same approach. "Your program crashed, so you should send us your crash data" - Only a lot of programs just throw it into the EULA and don't even ask you. Honestly I think with Impulse being installed on many of the machines with Elemental there should be some automatic crash reporting - This would help both keep players from worrying about having to find their crash data and give Stardock a flood of information, and just have a

One thing that would make things come to life a little more is if things had names. I'm sure there's someone here that's played Dwarf Fortress - Notice how when the world is generated _everything_ has a name? To keep the clutter down it'd have to be a separate layer of text on the cloth map that we could turn off, but I'd love to zoom to the cloth map and find out that there are places like "Mountains of Blood" "Hills of Sorrow" and other things - Names for rivers and oceans, things

I think this falls in the category of "Random Events" that people are pushing for. But I wonder - If you can teleport units to random tiles with some spell mechanics instead of selecting where to send them, and specify whether things happen in friendly or non friendly or unclaimed territory, I wonder if you could make quest locations where you enter and it causes the magic flow to change, casting a spell? Would that be scriptable? Maybe have it cast a random terreforming spell at a ra

Or stick around for a bit. 1.1 and all prior versions were working on internal problems like the out of memory crashes.
