I agree entirely with this. I think everyone would agree that 8 is progress in many ways. Microsoft is constantly adding features and refining things that make Windows more useful, like Storage Spaces. That's a neat idea, although I'm still not sure why you wouldn't simply RAID instead. What I'm concerned about is that it has two UI's on it and you have to switch all the time. For example, user settings are split between classic Control Panel and Metro PC Settings: some are in one spot and so

Steam rules right now, both in potential audience and tools offered to developers. Not using it doesn't make any sense. So why should the company follow the apparently strongly held convictions of a vocal minority instead of common business

I never tried multiplayer in either. I was perfectly happy to bash about the AI on the middle difficulty levels. I think I'm already close to having played IV and V equally and I haven't even played V for the past 2 months or so.
This has been my worry since I tried the developer preview. There trying to shoehorn in two totally different UI paradigms and then tell the user to constantly switch between them, even to use the start menu. It's impossible to live just in the traditional desktop; you have to indulge in its split personality.
The Metro UI is not what I'm looking forward to. The performance improvements, on the other hand, do make me a little excited. That, and the new Task Manager. And the new copy file dialogs. And the storage pools.
All that sounds great. Normally I'm all for the newest thing out there. But the whole split-personality thing is scaring me.
I'm downloading it now but I'm not even cautiously optimistic. It seems to me that the union between the traditional Windows UI and Metro will make for a inconsistent experience. I think many of things that are viewed positively when done on a tablet hurt the usefulness of a desktop UI. Having the start menu replaced by a full-screen Metro launcher does not strike me as a good compromise, for example. I wasn't convinced when I tried the Developer preview that this was a blessed jo

I like Civ V. I don't play it much now because of FE and CK2 but I logged a lot of hours in it. I thought the pacing was fine; it's much faster than previous games. I don't think this is good or bad, just different. The whole Civ franchise is my list of favorite games.

I'm agreeing with you. You have every right to not only refrain from buying games for any reason you choose but to attempt to convince others to refrain. Steamworks doesn't bother me nearly enough to outweigh the pleasure I get from buying games that incorporate it. I believe many people agree with me. We're not enablers; we're making a rational decision based on values that differ from yours.
Problem with that sean.. is that Stardock and/or Ironclad knew there was going to be some people who wouldn't purchase it in response. They didn't care about those people.. yet you expect those people to toss out their Principles for a group that has pretty much stated.. we don't need you.. to hades with your principles. As far as I'm concerned any dev or publisher that requires steamworks.. can fail and I hope they do.

I just read an article at arstechnica.com: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2012/02/should-games-offer-more-help-when-we-get-stuck.ars I disagreed with the author. I feel similar to Draginol in that I like challenges. In my opinion, great games make you think, strategize, and make decisions that you can't easily unmake. That's one reason I like TBS games so muc
Steam doesn't bother me. The client is easy to use, doesn't have a huge impact on system resources, and I like all the features it adds. If it's collecting data about me, it can join the club with Google, EZpass, Verizon, the government, etc. It's a fact in today's world; information is valuable and information about you is being collected, sold, analyzed, and used. Most of the time all it's used for is to try and sell me stuff.

It could fit within the lore. There are some survivors of the war; a few blacksmiths are left and a couple builders and some horse breeders. A population requirement could even model this; only once your city is sufficiently large will the odds of having a blacksmith, builder, etc, be in your favor. Instead of having some scholar mysteriously researching how to forge a sword you just need a blacksmith who knows how. Building a forge for him and having a large enough city will "attract" one to
