well, if he has a really strong attack one paladin could still wipe out more than one peasant at a time. You mention total war, and I really hope these battles are like total war. Morale Was EVERYTHING!!!! not specifically, but you could charge at just the right angle to slice through peasants like they were butter, and you have just killed 60 peasants with practically no losses. However most of those kills were after they started running, in the initial charge maybe a third or half o

I will reinstate my clause for Morale -how confident the unit is Endurance -how much fighting has been done Endurance is simple ... fighting in melee combat (or firing arrows) is a tiring business, so is running at full pace (charging) The lighter the unit, simply the faster Endurance RECHARGES ... light cavalry would have the fastest recharge rate, while Heavy Armor Tower-Shield users would have slowest recharge r
That sounds ... very uplifting. Can't wait to join the next beta ;)
If it was a victory, I think dead team-mates equipment should be added to "inventory" ... so that if the excess inventory is retained until your unit arrives at the city, only training time will go into effect to replenish troops. However, if it was a Retreat from battle, you would lose the equipment, and therefore need to stock the unit with fresh troops AND fresh equipment. There is still an upside to adding troops to experienced unit vs making a new unit. Fresh troops will gain at
I think it was said best that tactical battles are done well if a well-led inferior force can defeat a poorly led superior force. Also, simultaneous orders for both player n player, or player and enemy ... sounds like a must ... so that skill in battle-formation and battle fluidity will shine through, as opposed to min/maxing on turns.
at red1939 ... if there are multiple family members in one army, then yes, only ONE can be the general (to give certain bonuses to the army) and the rest are merely units that will fight on the battlefield. I envision most family members (at least while with the army/in combat) to be accompanied by an elite bodyguard de-facto, essentially becoming one of the most powerful units on the battlefield, not counting channelers or rare super monsters. If there are multiple family mem
yea, the only extra stats that really need to be in are morale and fatigue. It would be nice if attack/defense interacts more than just a math equation, and there are worked in attack rolls and defense rolls (or some light randomization) .... add that to a "battle sim" where each soldier on the battlefield is its own actor (even though all soldiers in a unit share the same stats, other than hp I suppose), then it will all work out. I wonder how hard it will be for each soldier on the battlefi
I didn't exactly state that I explicitly wanted different damage types. I merely wish for weapons to have their own special abilities, perhaps even as a bonus vs different types of enemy armor ... or simply bonuses based on what type of armor you choose to wear. For instance, wearing leather/light armor could greatly increase the parry bonus of a short-sword or rapier. As for blunt vs pierce, I merely think Axes, Hammers, Maces should somwhat ignore armor defense, while swords, spears
if HomM3 is anything like HomM5, or Kings Bounty, then each unit is simply a potentially infinite stack, made up of as many units as you could gather and recruit ... possibly with some arbitrary limit based upon leadership, or class, or somesuch. Still, a nearly infinite stack made of 100s of soldiers. We provide many actual cohesive fighting units made of a particular size (probably depending on logistics tech plus how large your barracks/training yard is) working together, moving ac
Not really ... as always there will be the royal family, and there will be heroes. A Family member can do ANYTHING they want, be a general, governor, or teacher. McArthur was a general during the pacific campaign, and then became a Governor for Japan (Primariliy in Tokyo I believe), and as I said earlier this was mainly for the Royalty. A royal family member should be able to fight wars, govern cities, and teach in schools. Usually the royal prince/ess will be the general in the army,
nah, just blunt and piercing ... and even then they don't have to be "different" damage types ... but a blunt weapon will be designed to attack Armor Defense, and a Piercing weapon (arrows, swords) will be designed to attack SKILL defense. Cause like ... we should have Weapon Attk/ Armor Defense seperate from Skill Attk/ Skill Defense, and upon levelling up you can choose to raise either skill attk/ skill Def, or something completely different. Also, morale and endurance shoul
okay thats nice ... but why has no-one commented on my environmental type post? :(
Is windows 7 file-modding friendly like XP was/is? or does it continue the Liscensing iron curtain of vista?
I dont see the animation and actual mechanical combat being at all separate ... if something hits on the battlefield/vision, it hits in the game, only thing I could see would be actual melee results, actual damage of the hit, and how many in the blast radius of the fireball are completely dead, and how many are only half-burnt or half-dead. Either way ... battle-sim. Having no graphically representation for such a battle-system would look quite silly. Personally, special abilities and
hmm ... well by the time the game comes out I will probably start looking for a new OS anyways .... is XP-64 better than Vista-64 like I would guess?
I just can't wait to join the (second) beta.
In the most recent journal about game development, (and perhaps in the beta ... which I had beta :/) we see that not only does it cost essense to build a new city in wasteland, but ALSO in any terrain type that is not home environment. Therefore, among humans, I think it would be fun to have a plains race, a snow race, a desert race, a woods race, a mountainous/hilly race, and perhaps a coastal race (depending on emphasis of ocean in-game). At the very least (for 12 factions,
indeed. Long live Elemental!
as there will be many TC battles per game turn.
I really don't see this happening. There will be the occasional battle, and during a war you will have various bouts of one or two battles per turn, for as long as the war takes to complete. I would like for the battles to be interesting, and honestly I do not become bored with battle animations. In total war there was a fast-forward button
So there will be a 64 bit version of the game elemental? I only ask this because I remember the map creator was supposed to be running on a 64 bit engine or somesuch. If by running 32 bit, I am only limited by not having gigantic maps then I am fine with that. If the limitations stretch beyond map-size however, would be a point of concern.
I like having a multitude of races. But I prefer if there's only one species.
One specie (humans) with multiple races ... agreed :)
I like having scales.
Quoting psychoak, reply 107I'm hoping for even more complex combat. No shooting targets with units that can't see them. I'd prefer a volley fire method, complete with reduced accuracy, for archer blocks, won't mind not having individual LOS within the group. Charges, facing, penalties for disengaging. Think Warhammer. If you were in a regiment, fighting another regiment, you couldn
What I meant to say was that it could encourage using your Sovereign as a "Gandalf" ... and using him to attack/attempt to kill off soldiers from your non-channeler supported armies rather regularly, as there would be no risk of dying. Its not that I would mind that, Im just saying that is likely what it would lead to.
So ... will elemental run on XP? and what is XP-64?? does this just mean I would not be able to run a 64-bit version of the game, period? (if I only have XP)
