I have a question about MP. Now with this new cool tactical combat mechanic, wouldn't it be perfect with a TC only MP mode? Really looking forward to the beta! [e digicons][/e]
Are the terrains going to do anything, Froggy? Like in a Civ game, you have hills and grasslands, and desserts, each giving a different bonus and that can be mined or farmed, etc. Does the land do anything?
[e digicons]}:)[/e] You mean like... Dessert land = Free strawberry tart for everyone = +1 happiness? Looking forward to more terrain types, the game seriously needs a visual makeover.</
I'm still working on particles for Hands... But you know... rl work, kids, sick kids, sick me... etc. I have a prototype ready, but my brain is too warm to work with the xml right now and test it in game.
FE will be so cool... This TC video was more interesting to watch than any of the TC battles I have played myself in E:War of Magic. I love the look of the creatures and soldiers! I love the fire damage!! I'm also glad to see that you have come this far with FE already. :)
Medium or small with lots of opponents, mainly for the pacing. I usually go for large maps in games like this because I like the exploring part, but walking around in a brown wasteland with nothing interesting in it what so ever is not my idea of fun.
I prefer #2 as it gives the game more fantasy feeling. I'm so tired and bored of all the brown crap in this game.
Some odd stuff with the sheltering hands... FriendlyChampion means I can't use it on myself/sovereign? Because I can cast it on myself and the fx I made shows up, but the tile does not show up and there are no modifications to defense etc to the sovereign. Also, the +10 defense only seems to last for 1 turn. And the heal does not seem to work either (only when fully healed it gives you a green "+2" text every turn.)
Here's the xml (I changed the whirlwind slightly to a more natural look, otherwise the same): http://www.shell.linux.se/dsk2293/ewom/Howling_winds_10.xml I need the following changed in MG_BattlefieldSpells.xml Howling_winds_10
Gaaaaah! Damn leaves! [e digicons]XO[/e] Sorry guys but the Howlings winds are not going to look much better than the movie above... Do you think you can accept that one? Please? [e digicons]8|[/e]
Thanks for the input guys. The spiral/tornado is something that I need to polish a bit... The question is, should it look like a magic tornado (like it does now) or a small natural tornado. Or maybe something in between..? @ Agrippa : I'll see what I can do with the leaves, circular movement for objects other than spinning around their own axis is kind of hard to create. And I need the xml for the hands. I hav
Howling winds: Still needs some work, if you
I've been playing around with the Particle cauldron a bit lately. I made a nice effect for a tactical air spell that created some wind blowing from left to right... However, that only worked as long as I was the attacker. When someone attack me, the X-axis is swapped and the wind spell blows into my own face... Of course the spell itself still works, but it looks terrible when I cast it. So the question is, is there a way to make spell particles that always travel from left to right r
Ok here's the final version, unless there are any complaints... :) <
Ok here's a first preview of Grasping Vines with particle fx. Might need some polish. </e
There already is a tile/world prop like that for the spell in question (Grasping vines) (a rather excellent looking tile as well, whoever made it!) But I think it will be even better looking combined with a particle effect.
I think my problem right now is that there is no military strategy involved. Maneuvering your troops is not of importance, neither in TC or on the world map. You don't need to defend choke points or outflank stuff, you just need to research, design and build. That combined with an utterly boring looking world makes the game uninteresting to play at the moment. As for the OP's question, I think FE will be fun. If there's any fun before that, it is a bonus.
Ok, I've been doing particle effects for the grasping vines. It shows up and everything is fine but... After 3 turns when the spell is deactivated, the effect shows up again! Does anyone know if this "feature" can be disabled? If not, I'll have to create something new that works both for when casting and for spell deactivation.
MP might be fun if we can get a game mode where you only fight tactical battles. Get a bunch of gildar and resources, build a bunch of units and then battle!
Last night we had a fair amount of snow, enough for me to call into work, so I busted out AoW:Shadow Magic to see if it holds up to to the infamous rose colored nostalgia glasses...and it does. It had such beautiful maps, city sieges were a different type of battle all together, and the magic spells are sweeping, the differnt races, neutral cities, recruiting camps, game changing things that made the world more than a pretty map. Then
Yes yes yes! A good looking world will make this game so much more interesting for me. Don't forget to add colorful fantasy stuff! I want a fantasy world, not a brown, flat desert.
I say give us all the modding tools you possibly can and we will make our own cakes/dungeon crawls.
@Magog_AoW: I believe that all 4 of the battlefield spells are currently using stock particles and effects from the main game. I know others had said they would work on some particle effects for us, and I am unsure of what they are doing or have gotten done. If you want to sign up to create a custom particle effect just post to the thread. More spells are to come, so even if we don't use something created for one of these I have a couple of other ides up my slee
Which spells do you need particles for?
Hmm... What mod is it that makes your are of influence colored like that?
The Enchantress pic is awesome.
