Yeah, that was really in-depth....
I could have written a long wall of text explaining why the magic system is stupid, but I simply do not care anymore. I got excited when War of Magic was unveiled and bought the pre-order. The game was so bad and bland I hardly even played it. Then Stardock apologised and swore they will learn from their mistakes, so I got excited once again (much less so, as you can imagine). Played beta, tried to

With the full game being a major disappointment, for me the last chance it has is being completely changeable. How many things can be modded? population-based effects rewiring the whole magic system: spells researched rather than obtained on level-ups magic levels contributing to spell power overland spells needing (variably) several turns to cast a resource governing how much

I am sorry to say that. The game still sucks. The factions? Why did you hire Kael of Fall from Heaven fame exactly? That mod had the most diverse and unique races ever created in a strategy game, and it was a MOD for god's sake. And yet there's not even a slight change in the banality and boredom of Elemental's factions. Humans, humans, pathfinding humans, magical humans, humans, ugly fighting humans, enslaving humans, ghost humans (that one is actually&nbsp

Goddamn apologists.
I have to say that I LOVE the way casual players with little or no game design experience spend a few minutes of brainstorming and come up with the ONE GREAT SWEEPING CHANGE TO GAME MECHANICS (TM) that will solve the game's biggest problem (make separate queues! reduce the cost of buildings! make it more like HOMM! make it more like WoM!)
Yeah, because threads like this one

And that is a problem of balance. This shouldn't be all about two legendary heroes conquering the whole world (and having a few cities that you can disregard whatsoever). It's a turn-based 4X game with *some* elements of RPGs (hero development, quests). Every win should come from creating a well-working kingdom, not by running around with two guys.
What is this pioneer spam people whine about? (v0.95 to 0.952) 1. The land is in shambles and 99% of it is ineligible for colonization. The limit on my city building is that I can't find a valid spot to build not the time it takes to spam pioneers.
not even close. while there are wastelands without soil, i'm always finding some spots to build a city. Indeed, I hope there is a way to make the distribution of power base into mana, skill and research. It is the cornerstone of MoM's system after all.

So... you want to make Master of Magic out of Elemental? FUCK YES. Count me in. In fact, I was going to try and make the (almost) very same mod myself. So, I will gladly help in any way imaginable.

for me, it's essence > production >>>>>>> grain. Essence makes a city more flexible, city enchantments are really powerful right now. Production increases building time immensely, so that you can construct +food improvement quickly and therefore negate the lack of grain.

The thread has been somewhat derailed, so I'll ask the question here: how moddable will FE be? The thing that bugs me the most right now is (along with really bad balance, OP heroes, pussy monsters, pioneer spam and a lot more minor things) magic. In fact, I find its whole system terrible. Will it be possible to modify it, introduce some new mechanics, completely overhaul it?
I agree that the champions in Fallen Enchantress are overpowered. I like the suggestion of imbuing by sacrficing a shard. I think that would be fun to play.
Champions are indeed overpowered, but it's not the case of spells or imbuing, because sovereign is also OP. The problem is really simple: you have two heroes from the start, and they can easily, without any risks, kill all the near fauna, quickly gaining

It's a damn 4X Master of Magic clone, why shouldn't it be a game for me? Magic sucks. There is only a handful of spells, half of which is completely useless, and part of the rest completely OP. Your power is restricted by shards. You are a might 5 lvl fire mage, yet haven't found any fire shards? Well, tough luck, enjoy your powerful spells. You want to play as a conjurer and flood the world with magical armies? No can do, you can only cast a

I think this is a unnecessary and artificial cap, which won't solve problems in the long run, as heroes will level up - even faster - on their own. When in doubt, look at the ideal - and by that I mean Master of Magic. There champions weren't available from the start, they could spawn and offer your services during the campaign - if you had enough fame to intrigue them and money to hire. This is partly doable in FE - we have the influence resource, which

I don't really like the city maintenance cost idea. To me, towns are supposed to create income to support units, not the other way around. However, outpost should definitely have an upkeep cost - which increases as more of them are built (so, the first outpost could cost 1 gold, while the fifth - 5 gold). I sense that arguing for pop-based effects is a lost cause. However, there's still a lot to do. I think a more complex tax system is also needed. First

Both times I built zero units and recruiting only the hero that starts in sight of your town. this is absolutely wrong, and a proof that the game needs much more tweaking than it's generally agreed.

After a few games, here are my impressions. I've written much more about the negatives, but that does not mean I'm bashing the game - I just want it to become as good as it is possible. what's good: - addition of essence - city management and development, to a point (see below) - character development - wildlands concept (needs more love, though) - resources - customization what could be

Goodie huts should be much more than just free equipment - especially since there are only so many items and you'll have a couple repeated ones after twenty turns. If exploring huts was more risky - there was a chance that you'll get attacked, or be cursed, or whatever dangerous - you won't be able to run around collecting shit. Then again, having stronger, much more aggressive basic mobs (mites etc) would make the early game much harder and more thrilling. (I thin
