That having been said, for those not in IRC we're looking at tomorrow for the beta.
Wohoo! Quick, gotta finish my programming homework so i don't have to go to the practical lessons tomorrow. What time are we looking at? And at what -x GMT do you guys live?

Kinda sounds like the Civ4 trade system. each city has a number of trade routes (determined by tech + bonusus from civic buildings and wonders), the income from the traderoute is determined by the two cities's sizes and distance (+% bonusus from wonders, civics and buildings), these trade-routes were set up automatically. But with a visual (or in-game "phisical") aspect. I like it.
I think it's safe to assume that the good people at stardock will provide us with some clear instructions.
If i already draw a fair amount of enjoyment of discussing and speculating on various aspects of the game on these forums. How can adding the beta to the mix not result in more enjoyment? Even if the beta itself isn't all that fun, it probably will enhance the discussion (if only by granting us more concrete things to discuss). Though i admit you have succeeded in bringing down my expectations from "unfinished unpolished game" to "unfinished unpolished tech-demo". Still going
Edit: In the Epic Map pic... that city doesn't seem one. Just some... er.. blocks put together. I know, I know, still very early but I just wanted to mention that it seems odd. Some people would say "inmersion breaking" but I'm beyond such things in a TBS. (RPgs tough...)
I know what you mean, and i think it's largely due to the lack of roads. A city isn't much more than an assortment of buildings interconnected with roads to for
Verry impressive progress. But the greatest thing of all is that it will probably run on my computer. (athlon 3000+, 2.5 gb memory, ati HD3570 512 mb)
Damn that looks good.
Uhm if you guys mean Fog Of War, then i think you are mistaken. I'm fairly sure that there's no FOW within your own cultura borders in Civ4.
Pfff, martyr, smartyr, i just want bragging rights. [e digicons][/e]
Has there been any word on slavery? Cause for the mordor-creating-evil-channelers it most certainly feels appropriate.
Making magic and technology exclusive doesn't make any sense to me. Unless magic causes some weird anti-technology field (or as Harry Dresden puts it, murphyonic field), there's no reason a magical perpetuum mobile couldn't power a dynamo or a car/plane/whatever. (or a continual light spell power a photovoltaic panel). Nah, Eberron i more my cup of soup. Though the tec
Mmm magic after tech. It will probably start out a a novelty, or form of entrertainment. Until someone finds a way to power tech more effeciently with magic than, say, batteries. You would probably end up with some kind of mixture, where devices, spells or rituals use the most efficient components of both tech and magic. (magic batteries, glowing runes instead of lights, voice sythnesizer for ritual chanting, etc)
The point isn't that researchers get random results, the point is that more often than not political leaders aren't leading the scientific process, and therefore have only limited knowledge of what to expect. Plus IRL, there's a lot of scientific progress going on at all fronts simultaneously, so maybe you want research Y, but that's no reason research Y should be expected to be a part of the next breakthrough.
Though the game itself might not be fun yet, i at least expect witnessing the game develop from up close will be.
Could any of you Hip-Hop experts tell me, a alternative progressive rock boy, which genre Muse's Undisclosed Desire (it's from their brand new album) belongs to. It isn't rock, no guitar, i would guess it's hiphop but i'm far from an expert. Well, not in most of Europe. We conform to the ISO standard. [e digicons][/e] Plus, most folk consider monday the beginning of the workweek.
Mmm, not the rain on your parade, but a lot of people consider Monday the first day of the week. (because Sunday is the day of rest in Christianity, and a lot of societies have historical ties to Christianity)

Thanks man, I'll try it.
I dislike earbuds because they are very destructive of hearing at certain volume levels, but I am not aware of an affordable alternative.
Doesn't all sound destroy your sense of hearing at certain levels? As long as you are responsible with the volume you shouldn't have any problems. (and if you aren't responsible with the volume, not using earbuds won't help) Perhaps you could look for some earbuds that use thermoplastics, so the pressure

Hi As English isn't my first language (and i suck at spelling in general), i prefer to use Firefox's in built spelling checker. And while Firefox can check the spelling, it can't provide any suggestions as how to spell it correctly. Because the right-click menu the spelling checker uses is overridden by the mini text editors right-click menu. (which is otherwise quite nice, but i prefer my spell
While i share your dislike of regional restrictions. I can imagine that the server/upload capacity required to provide the game to the entire world at once would be way to expensive. Of course this could be alleviated by using p2p technology. And then there's all that stuff with the different publishers, contracts, laws etc. They apparently think it to big a hassle.
Personally i would be thrilled if they let themselves be inspired by Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri. That game had the best story telling in any 4x game, and flavor was put in every nook and cranny. Every faction had it's own distinct philosophy and was presented as a series of highly memorable quotes which accompanied tech-advancements, secret projects and ordinary buildings. And "the book of the planet", a series of short interludes in the form of a excerpt of your leaders life,
