I married a grand-daughter to a grand-son (grand-daughter joined my faction, grand-son remained with other faction), which was kind of err...
If both camps just got together and discussed things constructively, Elemental would improve more rapidly, and I think we all want that.
That's the way. Personally i'm enjoying the game even in the state it's in (until it crashes) but if anything that just shows the potential of the game. I'm enjoying the premise and it's still in an unbalanced and bug riddled mess. BUT i dont care, it kills time in an entertaining way.

Anybody notice anything strange about this image that james009D posted? Anybody?? who the heck is 'Eldmyre'? I thought this was Janusk's history...

This isn't just ATI or windows 7. If you read through a few of the debug.err files people are posting it's also happening on Windows XP/Vista with Nvidia cards aswell. Holster that XP disc ;)

oh so it's not just ATI or Windows 7 then. I'm glad i held off reverting to XP :p
it was a reference to the fact that i had to sign up for impulse just to play the game i spent fifty bucks on. maybe i am old fasioned, but i think a game should be playable right out of the box.
You dont have to sign up to impluse to play either of stardocks games. It's completely optional. They're also the only company that i know of that doesn't have any DRM in their games, although i have to admit i wish they'd release patches like every other studio, down

Once they fix the engine, and lets face it, there are some really huge memory leaks and some massive performance issues. I believe this game will be on par with just about every other game that's come out this year and cost the same ammount. Everybody keeps going on like this is the only game to ever be released with critical errors still in place, and lets not forget that stardock are a small indie company, they haven't got the resources to sit on a game for 12 years and polish the h
But the AI can research it too before you, so basically you want to have the largest AOC asap.
I've never seen the option to research it disappear or anything and it's always revealed atleast 1 or 2 new resources for me, SO, in theory shouldn't this just make resources appear in their own tiles when the AI researches it? Which you then get when/if you take their city. So in theory you could wait for the AI to research it, take their cities and research it again
but to anyone out there who's not comfortable with rebuilding their computer, yes, don't mess with firmware. If you don't share the specific problems in the ATI/AMD forum thread, dont flash your firmware from the link. If you don't have an HD4850, be sure you know what you're doing.
Yeah that's about all i was trying to say. I highly doubt you were doing anything with IT before i was born though, being 4 years older than me and all. Anyway i'm gla

I just did some experimenting. All the mipmap errors in the debug.err vanish if you set mipmap levels to 1. I got an extra 70 turns out of my game with this and i had almost 800 units and 31 cities on the screen.

I think i may of found something. note in the above posted log i started in turn 576, mipmaps set to "default". Debug Message: ------------------------- Debug Message: - Ending Turn 576 - Debug Message: Current Memory Usage: 1356008 KB Debug Message: Cities in World

Answere is....... nope, it's not the autosave, damn shame. I could of lived without it until it was fixed. I'll upload my data with no autosaves for review. One thing i'm noticing in the log is that my game is throwing an error on generating mip maps for damn near every texture, i'll try setting mip map level to 1 and trying again. oh and be warned this debug.err is 108k lines long. That's one hell of alot of texture errors.

3 Replies 2,467 Views

hm that's interesting. It's dieing on the autosave. I wonder, is your save function leaking memory at a crazy rate... only one way to find out, i have a game where i've pretty much conquered the map, i can see everything and there are a hell of alot of monsters. Lets see how many turns it takes to crash it with autosave every turn, and how long it takes with it turned off. Updates later

I think first priority should be given to makeing the game fast and stable. I have a very powerful system and i get at most 15 fps even on the cloth map and i get out of memory errors after 200 turns without fail. Balancing can come later i just want to be able to play it without predictable crashes :(

congrats on the comeback. There are alot of cheap tricks that can have you absolutely destroy the AI even on ridiculous difficulty, but i'd suggest you dont go looking for them ;) it just ruins the feel of the game.,

The term man (from Proto-Germanic *mannaz or *manwaz "man, person") and words derived from it can designate any or even all of the human race regardless of their sex or age. The word developed into Old English man, mann meaning primarily "adult male human" but secondarily capable of designating a person of unspecified gender, "someone, one"

It's nice that they've made the AI follow the same rules as us. And i would even call it a feature rather than a bug seeing as it gives you the option to protect a resource behind your walls or leave it vulnerable as a trade off for city building space. The one and only thing i have a problem with is when you get the reveal resource techs and it reveals a resource adjacent to your city. There's no choice in what you do in this case and that should change imo.

oh right, i dont think research alone spawns higher level goodie huts.. Atleast in games where i've completely ignored adventuring at the start there have been lvl 2/3 goodie huts spawn. You do need to research that to get them though regardless of why they showup.
? what exactly is the "it" you're referring to? saying it's "never a good idea" is just patently false, friend. its not good to do so without reason or cause, and it's smart to make backups. but "never"? no.
ok i'll rephrase it. "it" was me referring to the symptoms the OP was finding in their game. <

It sucks i know. Particularly when you have no choice in it getting added to your city. Anybody else had 3 gold veins spawn touching a city before? (adventure research) Boom 12 tiles gone. On the flip side you do gain a fairly nice bonus by having your resource inside your city walls. Namely that the enemy cant destroy it without killing your garrison and takeing the city, stops hit and run attacks from wild creatures ruining your economy.
