You know they did have a terrain defense modifier in the original Elemental. I can only assume they decided to remove it for a reason.

I've turned AA off and it seems to be working now. However AA was turned on via the in game options and not forced through catalyst control center so I'm still inclined to call this a fairly serious bug. Thanks for the help :)

When I try to play FE absolutely no 3D objects are rendered, the UI is responsive and I can see the cloth map in game but nothing else. I'm running v1.0 and stardock central is not offering an update. Below are some pictures and a link to my DxDiag, the game isn't actually crashing so there's no dump being generated. It's a situational thing. If enemies are just outside your walls and your city pops a level it's a good choice. In any other scenario you're better off takeing +x% to whatever you specialised your city in. The UI ,as always, could use some work. But it's not that hard to understand.

It's good that you're working on gameplay and that you're willing to take more of an interest in community feedback this time around. What concerns me however is stability, EWOM at launch was only barely playable and it still has some problems with memory management, thread sync and performance now. So how are things looking under the hood with FE?

wow. I leave it for a few months and you guys are really starting to nail things down. Fallen enchantress is looking good from what I've seen in the dev journals and I'm pleased to hear you're adding more soul to the game. I do hope some of that soul translates into giving the AI some personality though. If you're going to flesh out the game world it'll be odd to have something so homogeneous in the mix.

Have to respect you for reading the forums. I'm sure i'll do the same when i'm finally in the industry. The fact of the matter is that the forum provides you with feedback from the people that either hated your game to the point where they had to tell you about it, or loved it to the point where they wanted to join your community, and for the most part the information you can gain from that is invaluable. Even the haters have to hate for a reason right?
Quoting Frogboy, reply 26I am feeling the same way about city placement. It's elusive indeed. The beauty of say Civilization is that every tile in the game potentially has use. In Elemental, a tile is basically generic unless it has a resource on it. Why not take a page from MoM and gives bonuses to cities depending on their surrounding? For example, for every tile of the given terrain in a 5x5 squa
It should be released perfect, without need for patches to fix any kind of bug or to improve the game.
No but over-dependency on patches is a bad thing. I know games are more complex than they used to be but seriously, "post-release beta testing" is almost becoming the norm these days.

As a collective group we ask far too much, it's if nothing else a good yard stick for stardock to see how the community is takeing to changes though. Also anybody (who isn't completely insane) realises that stardock wont implement everything we ask for. but in asking we're atleast giving them ideas and aiding the creative process like a good community should.

I have a question. Seeing as how the expansions will be stand-alone games also. Will those that in the future buy EFE on its own get a discount on EWOM? I ask because I'm sure I'm not the only person that's been drawn to a game by a sequel/expansion before.
Its refreshing to see people complaining about the game being hard.
Completely agree. It's a very good sign. Now to do away with the blandness and we'll all be happy. Back on Topic: You need defenders above all else at the start of the game. Upto any difficulty lower than ridiculous your can pretty much defend yourself with nothing more than a few armor-less spear men and th

Brads original post has more right in it than wrong but the one thing I will say is that it's a complete falsity that people with ideas are rare. Ideas are a dime a dozen, the difficult part is finding something that your publisher wants to publish. I mean as a games programming student I've heard atleast 50 well developed ideas this year that would make absolutely fantastic games, which I would buy. But innovation is often left to the side lines in favor of the safe approach that's a

Instead we have a few dozen set land masses with randomized resources and start locations. Take a look at ../Program Files/Stardock Games/Elemental/data/Maps They going to fix this right? weird for a game like this not to have a random map generator I thought MOM

First thing to try with this is to run the directX updater. It normally solves all these issues. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en
I think what is annoying many players is the terminology of it. Calling research into magic a 'tech' does not tie in to fantasy fiction very well, at least not traditionally. If you had two sections in the spellbook, one for spells, and one for meta-magic, I think it would solve that problem. For example, in the meta-magic section, you would research higher spell levels, as well as the decyphering of other spell books.
</

very good points there kenata. I have to admit I tend to have no cities below level 5 in the late game (i only play on large maps) and I have such a high resource income that it's impossible to spend it all. For example in my last game I finished with 15,000 gold and that was after buying all my champions a full set of heavy plate, the charms, accessories and a sword of wrath each so I could go do the quest of mastery. Food is the only limiting resource. Or to

Civ V should of been built on everything they learnt from the development and post release support of Civ IV but it wasn't. That's why it's terrible, they didn't bring forward what they did right and they didn't learn from their mistakes. As for elemental, mistakes have been made, stardock have taken our outcry of complaints and suggestions on board and are doing their best to work the game into something better I mean really read some of Brad's posts, they've m

Playing on normal speed I find myself just hitting next turn with nothing to do quite alot already. Maybie I should turn up the speed [e digicons]:S[/e] In any case I think that this is all very subjective, some people find it too fast and others find it too slow.

I'd like to point out that elemental while not a direct sequel to anything is seen as the spiritual successor to MoM. This means that, for some people, it had even MORE to live up to than a lot of the sequels released this year. With the possible exception of SC2, but that was 12 years in the making, it's a special case. For the record I love SC2, play it online with my friends constantly.

zip up all your crash logs and upload them to the forum. That's inifinitely more useful than a thread saying "there are crashes. they're annoying". They know.

Excellent idea. I get the possibility that their may be a period before you've mastered your abilities where you can't really do much magic but how it plays out in the mechanics is to either force you to keep your sov away from danger until you get some spells going or use weaponry, which then pushes you to investing your first few levels worth of points into combat stats rather than intellect. Either way the balance seems completely skewed towards gear and tech
