Awesome, too bad I am not at home to try it out right now. :( SIege sounds awesome. Naval battles I am not too sure about. Will they be available as tactical battles as well? I still see the naval battles of Empire:Total war in front of me. My god, that was a heap of feces of a game. And the naval aspect was pretty much one of the worst thing about it. That is why I am asking, naval battles are fine by itself, as long as it works properly and it is in fact strategic rather than a hope

So will the trading of resources be in the game, like selling excess horses to the neighbors in exchange for gold - excuse me, I meant Rigma - or maybe iron ore, or is selling and trading raw resources not possible?

That is not that common at all, actually. Also the game is still very very bad for me atm, the reason I am not reporting any more crashes is that it crashes all the time and I get tired of firing up elemental only to see it crash. :) There should however be a crash report or two around so I feel like I did my thing. we will see IZ appearing and then have a peak at the stability. :)

@ Raven: So you vote no to safe face, we will vote yes and keep things going. Balancing is something that needs to be done in multiplayer since the AI clearly poses no challenge yet. Balancing things out right now is a wasted effort since the 1Z build is not the final build. Wasting effort to balance the few things we have right now is something we may as well not do yet. You can vote yes. You know you want to. It needs not your 'Raven Stamp of Approval', it just needs a yes. Let us n

The system for when we need to vote yes is a bit vague, but whatever. Glad to see we will get an update. Question for SD: Will there be different icons and graphics on the map for the diffeent races, or will all races use the exact same icons for cities?

(value can still be numerically expressed for the player, but in brackets, or cows! or whatever) The first civ that researches Minting as technology get to name their currency which is then automatically also used as currency name for everyone for the rest

That would be a safe bet so I will not take it. :P You are probably right, unless they like some name suggested here more. In the end all our crazy talk will have done nothing, but I like talking crazy and agguing for the sake of arguing so I will keep arguing until the name is settled! :)

I see your point - I saw it the first time :) - with the calling of the currency. I can see the practical value of equating the sovereign to the gildar in terms of the weight of the gold, but in that instance the gold determines the value. The merchant may say 'this item is X in gold' and then the buyer may pay that weight in sovereigns or gildars, statuetes or gold bars, but in the end the gold determines the value. Equating some coin back to the weight in gold and then from there to

[quote who="the Gorgon" reply="180" id="2572985"] As has been stated, "Gold" is not a currency. It's a precious metal. No currency is ever called "gold", not even when it's based on a gold standard or really is coins with gold in them. Eh, no country/region on Earth might have called it just "gold" until now. But you might have noticed that this is a PC game, and a fantasy one to that. And in these games it's the standard, if not "state of the art", to call it gold

232 Replies 344,600 Views

I can see the logic of a gold coin being called something other than gold, since a coin has a name, it is not just a coin. There can be two entirely diffent coins and 'gold' is too generic a word to describe them, I get it. Even if the coin is gold, it seizes to be just gold, just like a man wearing a funny wig and a toga seizes to become just a man, he can beocme a judge, people with stiped uniforms are umpires, etc. The presentation really is a big deal. This thread now has me doubt

[quote who="vieuxchat" reply="164" id="2572649"]It seems that the first coins took the name of those who created them : créséides from crésus, in ancient Greece. So who created the first coins after the cataclysm ? then just add something like "-ides", change a letter or two to make the word speakable and you're done. Both Florin and Guilder sound fine to me - and both are former Dutch names. :) Rigma sounds fine to me too, although it is not very recognisable. To that end I would prefer something that sounds like money rather than some weird fantasy random-strings that sound all spacey

How come the coins are named? It implies a standard which is kinda weird in a world that is rebuilding. Are people not trading in chicken bones and cowhorns? :)

Nice screenies, obviously a lot of effort is being put into this game It will be very exciting to see which title I will love more, Civ V or elemental. So far I like what I see about both. :)

I meant to take a screenshot of this, but I accidently copied the map seed to my clipboard while I had not pasted the screenshot in paint yet... My bad. Anyway, in a map with random map seed 1268393412 I found myself in a starting position surrounded completely by mountains. I could walk around in this tiny little valey but actually leaving the valley was not possible.

As it is it makes limited sense. I think resarching questing as an absolute neccesity in order to be able to quest is not too solid. A sovereign or hero can very well walk into a cave, right? Who cares what they were taught at school, they should be able to march into a cave or to talk to individuals regardless of your state of research. However, I feel hat researching quests has some merit. Maybe you can initiate any quest at any time, but in order to fully understand how dange

We could probably get into a lengthy discussion into what makes a courtier, and I see your point. I would argue that knowing the ways of a profession is more about knowing what to do and when, while skills in diplomacy is more something like having a fluent speach and the ability to convince others of your ways. Note that the two have little to do with each other. An experienced courtier knows how to pull some strings in order to get things done. A good diplomatic person knows how to formulat
