I was wondering what was causing those "crossing this border" messages when none of my units were anywhere near a border. I'm pretty sure I ran into this bug as well, since I also had a road heading off away from any of my cities.
Takeitsy, if I correctly understand your point about all roads going to the left, you mean that you can only build roads if the city you start the road in is to the right of the city you are building the road to. In several games prior to the one that I took the screen shot above in, I had tried to build roads but they never got built.
I posted what I think is the same thing a couple of days ago, as Runaway Game .
I think this is what he means:
Like several others who have posted here, I really like the music.
Way back in the GC2 beta days, they had similar problems with alt-tab crashing the game. Windowed mode worked a lot better, and setting the window resolution equal to the desktop size - to get the effect of full screen but avoid the alt-tab problems - kind of got recommended as the best way to play. I've been away from Stardock betas since then, so I don't know their history, but it might be that for Elemental it's deliberately behaving this way.
I should note that I'm running in windowed mode with the resolution set to less than my desktop resolution.
I had no problem using it in Elemental on Vista.
I haven't tried changing everything, but I've been able to change video resolution and turn on windowed mode.
Thanks, that worked!
With autoturn on, I had a scout on auto explore and was moving my sovereign around myself. I accidentally moved the sovereign into a village, and the game took off on me, moving the scout around and popping up farming bonus notices (I was researching Agriculture at the time) so fast I couldn't keep up clicking on them. Seems like there's a usability problem there.
Thanks, scottycroft, that's what I ended up doing. I'd still like to know how to do it right, though.
I decided to try Elemental on an old machine (in fact, the one I beta tested the original GC2 on). It starts up with music and a screen on which I see the quill cursor, and a white band in the center with black above and below, like a letterboxed TV picture. Then it goes to this garbage screen and never gets past it (at least for a couple of hours, I eventually killed it with task manager. <img src="http://content.screencast.com/users/PubliusNV/folders/Default/media/985c11
I'm having problems getting screen shots into my posts. Maybe it's because I'm using Firefox, maybe it's because I'm a complete idiot, I don't know. Anyway, I click on the icon whose tooltip says "Insert/edit image", fill in the image URL, and then the image doesn't appear in the post. First one I tried was an image from the jing hosting service, second I tried was from a file on my hard drive. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.
It's not just garrison units, I've seen it with a scout also.
I've also seen it, with my sovereign unable to attack another sovereign.
I'd tried clicking on the small arrow on top of the unit icon, and it did nothing. What did work was to click on the icon to make the small arrow appear, then to right click on a square next to the city.
I was lucky enough to equip my sovereign with 2 rings. Wasn't real obvious how to do it, but experimenting with double clicking the rings and watching the stats change got the job done.
This happened to me also. I moved my sovereign to a village and he disappeared into it. When displaying the village, he showed as a unit in the village, but I couldn't figure out any way to get him out. The game crashed soon after (reported in another thread) but I don't know if that's related.
Just hit the next turn button and it CTD'd. It had been acting funny for maybe 20 turns or so, in that I had autoturn on but it wasn't advancing to the next turn unless I actually hit enter or clicked on the next turn button. DXDIAG (partial, full available on request) and debug.err are below: ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 9/17/2009, 20:26:16 Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home
I think Hyrim is correct. In the game I was just playing before it crashed, I was able to build 4 towns with farms.
I've tried researching Veteran Troops and Expert Troops, but even though I'm spending 41 research points per turn, I never see any progress being made on these 2 techs.
Playing in windowed mode at 1600x1200 resolution, when my sovereign's attack value went over 10, it was not displayed correctly: I'm having trouble getting the image pasted in. It's at http://screencast.com/t/zVlaQolM
I might have seen the same thing. I attacked with my sovereign and was killed, went back to the main menu, selected skirmish to start a new game, and when the new map appeared I didn't have a sovereign. It seems that you have to completely exit the game if you want to start a new one.
