I like this suggestion provided the Dragon doesn't roam. Powerful Mobs will need to stay in a region of the map or the player will be destroyed before they are capable of putting up a fight. This could be enhanced if an inn provides rumors of nearby threats/opportunities and the Dragon protects an important end-game resource.

I think the intro should be incorporated into the new avatar/game setup. In the spirit of Ultima IV's fortune teller but with modern day graphics and storytelling. It could be very interesting to have the lore delivered to the player as they make decisions about their "background", their "people", and the world around them. Decisions would seem impactful when driven home by graphics, animation, and voiceover. Just a thought but you have to admit it beats ch

A Russian developer was working on JA3. Strategy First pulled the name from the developer (quality?). The game was finally released as Hired Guns. You can find it cheap and if you are a die hard JA fan you may enjoy it. It has everything JA and JA2 had minus the charm. The characters are flat. This was the true genius of Sir Tech and I miss them. I'll never forget clicking on Fox and hearing "That'll cost you dinner and a movie". Or cl

You are preaching to the DamnedChoir. Sorry couldn't resist. Your post is exactly what I had in mind. Also, I think we can all agree historically soliders could be trained to run faster, use shields properly, etc. This is what initial training should do. Training should not move a unit from Green to Veteran. Only actual combat should do that.

Frogboy I beg you to please include a tutorial. Not because I'll use it. We are in beta. However, we need a tutorial because game reviews are a bit lazy. I swear sites like Gamespot have a checklist. Pretty Graphics - Check. Multiplayer - Check. Tutorial - What no tutorial. Give it a 75% and move on. /rant on/ I hate that a great game like Demigod was damaged because of a bad review. An indepth review would

@ leeboy26 Not at the moment but everything is subject to change. I'm sure most of this will get addressed in the combat beta. The main point behind the original post is the thought that Abilities are Fun and more Intuitive for the player.

Currently unit design is a bit vanilla. I suggest we give units flavor. The player should be able to add abilities to units not just equipment. Otherwise just add a button for best available equipement and I'll hit that every time. I suggest we add unit abilities to research and let players add them at the cost of training time. A few examples: First strike, sprint, thrown weapons, dodge, crushing blow, dual wield, disarm, hide in fore

I can't speak for HON but I really enjoy LOL. You should give it a try. Great revenue model. It can be played free forever with no disadvantage; however, you'll likely want to buy some stuff. I did just to support this great game. That team is pumping out bi-weekly content updates. By the way, there are no ads. It is purely supported by microtransactions. If you enjoy the game, I'd recommend the character pack sold on Impulse. It's a

Wow I topped 400 on the bullshit meter. That's pretty high. Not sure why though. If I made a similar comment about Demigod (Stardock published), would I get the same negative response. BTW I also played a ton of Demigod. However, new content was slow because Gas Powered Games was working on Supreme Commander 2. So I heard about LOL tried it and loved it. Still do after 400 hours thanks to bi-weekly content updates (playtime tracked by Xfire).&nbs

Download League of Legends - It's free and probably more fun than all of those. I just topped 400 hours played.

I was just reading a post in the PC gaming section about Warlords II and Warlords Battlecry. This caused me to remember the beauty of Battlecry's resource capture model. In Battlecry, you had to move a special unit near the resources and channel for a while to gain control of mines. Because the current owner could see this action (i.e. fog of war lifted due to resource ownership) they had ample time to respond to this hostile takeover. I'm not suggesting Elemental di

2kGames did this last fall with NBA2k10 Draft Combine. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about this stuff. The path is already laid out. Everything will go free digital download with micro-transactions in this decade. Steady income streams are easier to manage. Don't you feel the not so gentle push in this direction (read: DLC). This isn't all bad for the consumer. Overall we'll likely spend more tomorrow for the games we like. However, we'

irek1988: Try League of Legends. It's free to play - although you'll probably want a champion pack at some point. They release updates every 1-2 weeks. With new chamions every 2-3 weeks. Gameplay is king. Although I"ll warn you that the graphics are a big step back from Demigod. Give it a try though there is a lot to like and as I was saying it's free.

Building housing is no fun. Even if it auto-advances as the city levels up. I suggest we move houses outside the city walls and automate them. Let the Sovereign influence population through prestige and have the population grow dynamically. This way we could specialize cities as military centers (more production less population) and great cities with high prestige, a large population, and increased trade income. If the houses are automated and dynamic a large p

Wouldn't you rather just call up your fellow dev Lord British and take a trip to space. Call it research for the next Gal Civ game and it may be a tax deductible business expense. [e digicons]:digichet:[/e]

For those intested find the original Kohan or better yet the stand alone addon. But ignore Kohan 2 which greatly reduced the scope of the battle and in the process the made a mess of the game. By the way, Kohan is a great co-op game. You can find a level of difficulty that will challenge you. Also, if one player is getting hammered the other player can gift cities, resources, and units to their ally.

I suggest turn time limits that are in the background rather than foreground. Transistion from one turn to the next should be subtle. Turns would control unit movement, unit production, resources, and city development. When you give units orders they should continue to move toward their destination each turn; including intercepting hostle forces. You'll have to work out the math on that one. However, time should never stop for the player (i.e. no end turn bu

I Agree with imbiginjapan. That is what Kohan did. Free garrison, ZOC, and no overlap with other forts or cities to prevent spam. Incidentally forts did grant access to resources within the ZOC which helps reduce city spam and provides an upkeep free source of defense. Overall it worked very well. Kohan was RTS but the mechanics still apply to Elemental. You can't guard resources with standard troops when upkeep is required. No one will do it.</p

I love the idea of forts. Look to Kohan as one of the best implementations. Free garrison that replinishes over time. Great for temporary defense but can be easily overrun with a sustained effort.

Stack limits stink and cause a flight toward quality. Quantity should be valid as well. Think Russia during WWII.

What are the goals for Beta 2? Connectivity? Balance? This all seems premature but then again I'm not the expert. However, I would like to know how I can help. What should we focus on in Beta 2?

OK i'll regress. A well though out Co-op would be great. I'd like to see a Co-op campaign (with two kingdoms) and have the ability for two people to share control of a single kingdom. Think husband and wife sovereigns or two brothers. But Stardock is talking a lot of players in a semi-persisent setting. This will require a lot of play balance and a decrease in random events. In multiplayer you want player skill to reign supreme. Which is balanced but
