-Dynasties. Dynasties is a cool idea, but they never intended it to allow succession upon a Sov's death. Many argued for this option, but it was emphatically rejected.
The first way is to limit the combinations of equipment units can have so, for example, a bunch of guys with crossbows can't also have mounts, field plate & awesome melee weapons (and again, Dom3 would be the go-to source for good examples). Here's what I (a lurker without Elemental) would consider unique: - Sprawling cities. A city expands on new squares as it grows. Not having the game I can't say how much it affects, but it's interesting. - Dynasties. Sounds a bit like a solution looking for a problem with no clear goal, but if they can fix it... One idea I can share is ability to marry your children to minor factions. A lordling would be more than thrilled to marry a major ruler's daughter
It would be great if Kingdom and Empire had separate prestige systems. Kingdom (loved) and Empire (feared). Kingdom would gain prestige like it does currently, while Empire would value razing of cities, murder, winning battles and so on. A rough draft is here: https://forums.elementalgame.com/347570

In response to the original poster: Because if you can't make something innovative and good, you should stick to proven and good. From what I gather Elemental's system is neither good nor innovative.
It would be nice, for a change, to play a medieval/fantasy themed game where people defend their homes. It not just makes sense, it would be refreshing. It would work like free units available for city defense only. Normally they wouldn't be of much use, but they'd do if there are city walls. Bandits and monsters would serve as a barrier to expansion (as already mentioned) and would threaten resources, caravans and stuff lying outside the city walls. Only stronger bandits and raiders
I find it fascinating how some people feel the need to discredit MOM in defense of Elemental. That's like admitting Elemental needs the competition to suck in order to stand out. That's sad. Can't Elemental distinguish itself on its own merits ? It's not just nostalgia. I know full well memory works by discarding unpleasant events. I play Master of Magic to this day because I enjoy it. It's a good game even by today's standards. Dozens of games haven't learned from MOM. It's no
