Surlybob:
Polish costs money. Blizzard has huge budgets and masses of developers to throw at their projects. When they make a release, they can do so in confidence, because they know that the bought-and-paid-for gaming press will lavish anything they make with praise and it'll sell a bajillion copies.
But the criticism about magic is valid, in my opinion. MoM only had 6 schools of magic (1 generic, 5 specific), and only had about 50 spells for each of the 5 specialty schools. In Elemental, there doesn't seem to be that feeling of 'specialization' about having a school of magic. There is no difference other than visual between some of the spells. This thread should be called What Elemental is trying to do right. A game is not automatically good just because it is trying to do right. It's good when it succeeds in doing it. Once in a while Stardock gets bad publicity at Reddit. #1: Supposedly CEO's porsche double parked at 'disabled' space: (I can't verify if it's his porshe) http://hellforge.gameriot.com/blogs/Barely-Legible-Content/Stardocks-Parking-Fail #2: It comes naturally for some people, but I guess others may need to specifically train it.

A few years ago I got really far in the main campaign as Marcus, using a mix of just Heavy/Light infantry with Skyhunters and Siege Machines. It was quite easy (normal setting), but I ultimately got frustrated in the very last scenario where I assault Shadowlord himself. No matter what I did I would start losing units sooner or later, etc. Now I got back to the game, (I lost my saves), and instead of replaying the same old stuff I started to experiment. In a way, Stardock had it coming because they made the game in such way that playing is only possible on official servers. If servers were decentralized quake1-3 style, players (including pirates) would set up their own servers and wouldn't overload official servers. But that's an inconvenient truth.
