Thanks,.....I'd discovered the issue a few weeks after posting this. I had been using one of those cooling trays that is powered by USB and runs fans under the laptop since I'd bought the machine. Apparently after a year or so of use it began to suck too much power causing the processor decline. Simply unplugging the external cooling rig resolved the issue.

So far I like all these ideas, particularly the non-magic faction. Reminds me of the bloodguard in the 3rd chronicles of Thomas Covenant. I think the key point is we need some thing to differentiate one faction from another, something that makes each one unique. I just came up with the gator thing since the Tarthans are supposed to be the swamp people and there were gators in the original concept art.
I agree with what you're both saying but was hoping to get specific ideas of what you'd like to see for other factions. I only have time to play about an hour a day so haven't used factions aside from Tarth much. I think gators would be a good unique resource for them. It could be used as a mount or a food source, maybe like forest from MOM is +1/2 food, +1 production, its a hybrid resource. Gators could provide tarthans with amphibious assault and movement capabilities. For example
Kael mentioned creating more uniqueness among factions in one of his posts. Something I would like to see is have each faction have a unique resource, unit, spell, etc that only they could use. I always play as the Tarthan faction. The hiergamemnon thingy refers to them as the outcasts in the swamps or something like that,....so I would propose their special resource is 'gators. They can use them as a food resource, or as mounts instead of horses. I remember seeing drawings in
I heard Richard Garriot was looking for something to do
So the sovereign of my Tarthan kingdom is hanging out with Janusk and Rega-something in the latest city I founded. Magnar III comes calling looking for some gold in exchange for letting me live and I laugh at him. He sends his cannon fodder to try to intimidate me but he doesn't realize I've pumped up both my heroes with lots of essence. Magnar III sends 6 different squads at me, some with 12 soldiers some with 4. I came up with something like 56 soldiers total. My sovereign, Rega and
I'm a little late to this thread but agree I was looking forward to battles of the scale of what was depicted in early screen shots. If we do get something along those lines in 1.1 can someone email me how to mod the button on the battle interface to
oh yes I forgot to mention, all tests were run on EWOM v 1.06
I keep seeing all the back and forth about crashes on the boards and decided to run my own experiment and post my results. I'm not drawing any conclusions as I was only able to test on 4 machines (some of them quite old) but I did notice at least 1 pattern. Here are the relevant specs of the machines I ran my test against #1 AMD Athlon 1.0 GHZ, Creative Voodoo 3dFX 256MB ram, 1 GB Ram Win XP #2 AMD Turion 2.2 GHZ Nvidia 7900 GS 512MB Ram, 2GB Ram Win 7
I'm still giving EWOM a little more time, but agree I want to revisit MOM. Do you know if DOS Box works any better with Win7 than it did with Vista? I couldn't get MoM to run in vista at all, hoping my luck is better under Win 7
Phaz, Every time I finish a tactical battle and need to level up I've had to shut down. Tried using the corner of the X in the movement cursor and I can't get it to change the attributes. Like I said its not too bad, the multiple forced shut down's just had a pavlov's dog effect. Before I jump into a battle I'll look to see if I'm about to level up. If I am I'll go after the single creature (auto resolve) instead of the army of creatures, level up, and then go back after the
Three quick questions for anyone who might feel like fielding them. 1- Any suggestions on how to break into modding? I have very limited experience. I played around with mod building in NWN and NWN2 and got very frustrated in NWN, and almost threw my PC out the window with NWN2. Any suggestions on how to "learn" to mod aside from trial and error? 2- Is anyone experiencing either of these two problems. A>>If you win a tactical battle and your sovreign or champion
ok just going to close this thread with the weirdest, most bizarre thing I've ever seen. After much troubleshooting, rebuilding, rebooting, drinking and cussing, I was able to get the performance back to where it had been when I first bought the machine. After all my troubles I did nothing "technical" to resolve this. Because of previous overheating problems I had purchased one of those Laptop cooling stations shortly after buying the machine and that helped solve the overheating problem. Bas
I haven't downloaded the non beta version yet, so maybe this is a beta bug but what tech/resources do you need to build a lumber mill. I had researched all the basic civilization tech, placed a city right next to an old growth forest, but never got the option to build a lumber mill, I'm assuming a lumber mill is different from the great mill (When you hover over an old growth forest it says to build a lumber mill to harvest) but could never build a lumber mill,......any thoughts?
I'd vote for incompetent,... at least based on my experience at the local best buy
Not to be stupid but how is Stardock distinguishing Beta testers from pre orders? I pre ordered, tested the last two betas and reported some bugs, does that make me a beta tester? I can wait until tomorrow afternoon, granted it won't be easy, but was just curious how the pecking order is determined
Don't know if I agree with the authors statement that this is the best thing about pre ordering Elemental but good to see the press http://fidgit.com/archives/2010/08/the_best_reason_to_pre-order_u.php
Its Friday, 4 days before the official release and I find myself reminiscing about my first experience buying a computer. I was living in New Orleans and had been contemplating buying a machine for some time but I never pulled the trigger. I had played Eye of the Beholder at a friends and while it was pretty cool, I wasn't going to drop money on a computer when I already had a Sega Genesis and Super NES. Then as I was sitting around with some friends enjoying a cold frosty one and&n
Here's my two cents based on my experience in beta 4 I'm running a laptop with an AMD turion ML 40, 2.2 GHZ (single core), 2GB ram and Nvidia 7900GS 512 MB, Win 7 I have the resolution set at the second to highest and have anti aliasing turned off. My machine does not like the antialiasing at all. I look at it this way, I've never been able to see the game with antialiasing turned on so I don't know what I'm missing. It takes forever to start a new game. Init
Thanks Greg, I'm in the US. I could order a Dell, Alienware or any other myriad of "customized" computers but I find they never work as well as one I build myself and always have "garbage-wear" installed. I've built a few desktops, some from kits, some from scratch, but I haven't been able to find a laptop kit yet that wasn't a full build.
A nice little blurb on Fidgit from the Sci Fi channel. Disscusses the insane requirements of CIV 5 and offers up Elemental as a better alternative http://fidgit.com/archives/2010/08/civilization_v_hates_your_old.php
Well, after much investigation and tweaking and retooling and cussing, I have managed to fubar my LT. CPU performance has dropped further and now coming in at 3.0. I'm also dropping my wireless connection more and more often, don't know how that might be related but I think the motherboard may be going. I'm thinking about just building a new desktop, I just pulled out the last one I built from storage. Athlon 1.3 MHZ with a 6GB HD and 528 MB Ram, has it been that long? I've had good resu
That definitely sounds like it could be it, and from what I read if there is not an updated bios I could be SOL. Its an Nvidia motherboard so I'll have to see if there are any bios updates. thanks to both of you
I think my Avatar sums it up
Thanks for the suggestion Swerd, I am running 2GB of Ram which is the max the mother board will support and that seems to be fine, RAM is getting an index rating of 4.4. Graphics is 5.9, HD transfer is 4.2, its only the processor thats messing with me right now.[e digicons]>:([/e]
