I'm thinking that they try to keep the monster population steady, and when the untamed spaces start to shrink alot, it starts to get a little goofy. Keep in mind though that they are the only way outside of warfare to level up your guys.
On topic. Love the map generation. I would love to see the ability to make islands or other configurations in the future. Granted, I realize the AI may not be able to handle this yet, so for now. This is great.
You can create islands by turning up the noise frequency and rasing the sea level a bit.
Awesome Love it. One question.
The download link seems to be down.
Yes it does.... I hope it comes back... Their whole site is down it seems.
Hmm, I was hoping there would be some XML tag I could use in the map file to stop that. It's really strange that they allow you to place resources and then throw it out when the game starts.
One minor issue I have noticed is that the land transformation that takes place in the area of influence (turns into grassland or dead land) does not work well at all. The beaches and high mountains makes the transformation look really weird... Beaches turn white for example.
I used the terrain types that you get when you use the cartography room and place basic barren land. Some of the pre-made maps use other terrains like
Nope still the same. The only other difference between it and the vanilla map files is that the vanilla files have 1 "tab" before each line, while your files have 2 spaces. Surely that has nothing to do with it since it works for 95% of you all, but frankly im running out of ideas lol. Ill wait and hope an Elemental patch indirectly fixes it.
Did you get a chance to eliminate swamps?
Lately, and this just started happening recently even though I've been playing the same patch for a while, the UI backgrounds are not showing up. The text is visible but the window background is missing. Can't play like that really. The problem appears upon startup, and only a restart will sometimes fix it. Sometimes it's very stubborn and takes two or three restarts for the main menu to display properly.

A question Cephalo, does that hosting site there keep track of how many time it's been downloaded? I'm looking for a new host for mine but I want to be able to keep track of my downloads as well.
Yes! 191 downloads so far among
I'm noticing that when I make a map in the cartography room and place resources, and then try to play the map, all the resources are randomized anyway. Does anyone know how to make it so that the initial resources are fixed to what you specify? Otherwise there's no reason to place them. I know that some leaders have resources that spawn in with them and that's fine, but beyond that i would like to control this.

Definetly some kind of version mismatch here, i'm using the latest 1.07 (from impulse) yet it loads all the generated maps totally wrong. I dont know why, but that's my best guess as to why some of us (well, the two of us so far lol) seem to have this issue. Perhaps it only affects those of us with non-english OS, due to varying unicode-junk and such? Vanilla maps are saved as ANSI with <?xml ver
Actually Janusk has an option to turn off his advice. It's in the options screen.
After playing a few games, I have to say that global resources have some negative consequences. It certainly eliminates some micromanagement, but it completely trivializes the value of real estate and infrastructure. I can build whatever I want, my most advanced military units, even on a brand new outpost without any concern for logistics. It matters not that I had to escort my pioneer to this place with half my army because of the deadly expanse of forest filled with terrible monsters, and i

I don't know the maps all work for me. What size map are you genning? You're the second person reporting a freeze, I wonder what's going on there. If you would try genning a small map, like 64x32 or so, and see if your results are better. The way I'm writing the XML is not terribly efficient, I wonder if the file is too big for some people.
ok yea it created the map folder on its own...i made a tiny map but now how can i use it?
Make sure you have the 'use mods' option checked in your options screen. Then if you press the 'load' button on game start you should see it in the list. EDIT: Also, the 'world size' box is ignored if you load a map. It will be the size you made it.

For one thing, they tend to flatten the coast contours and take up a lot of space. Another thing I don't like about them is that they assume that all the non-mountain/
