Congratulations on release everyone! Jeez, I sure wish I had time to play games anymore. I'll have to make time for this one even though I kinda skipped FE.

Basically these days we have one organization controlling everyone's access to gaming. At what point do they start flexing those muscles, and how likely is it that it will be good for the industry? It's the Steam way or the high way.
I played MoM last year to see if I was mis-remembering how fun it was and to see how it aged. As much as I love games, I'm pretty bad at them so bad AI doesn't really bother me as much as other people. The best part about MoM is that you could basically write your own fantasy story, because it had all the generic fantasy tropes. It was fun to cheese the AI with admantite halfling slingers. Building a halfling city in Myrror took some planning!
Something drastic is going to have to happen to the economic game. There needs to be a game here, this set and forget type stuff isn't cutting it.
I think it would be interesting to use different currencies for different trees. Battle xp for the warfare tree, replace the civics tree with building requirements, and do magic research like MoM by spending your mana income(which would need to be increased) In any case, tech should not be used for champion recruitment or quest difficulty. I really detest exploring the map only to be blocked by a tech requirement.
Good post.
I have to agree with the OP. Ever since WoM I have felt that tech trees are a bad fit for just about any fantasy game. I feel like the tech tree is getting in the way of the fun in this game. Tech trees fit where the time scale is either well beyond a persons lifetime like in Civ, or if it is the main narrative of the game like in MoO. I understand that the fiction supports the idea of lost tech, but to me it feels very forced and full of plot holes. There are character
Nice work here. The most important observation in my mind is that you had fun . You bypassed the whole game and had fun... That's a big deal. If there's something fun about FE, you found it.
I think it would be better if all champions came from quests. The only problem there is that you have to write a fun quest for each champion, and that's not small potatoes labor wise.
It's the Seven Samurai method of character introduction. I like it.
I'd add that tactical battle is quite boring, no terrain effect, no advantages of attacking on several flanks, too easy to always have the first hit against AI, and so on...
I think that once there's a serious AI effort in tactical, I think it will be acceptable. There's only a few guys working on this, so there has to be alot of prioritization. The strategic level really needs some kind of rethinking fro
Character development - well done! - check! Tactical combat - needs an AI but otherwise well designed - check! The strategic layer is where things become nebuluous. A big part of the problem is that the AI isn't finished, but currently winning the game involves bypassing most of the content. Everything on the map screen seems surperfluous. Does it really matter where, or how you build your city? Do you even need more than one? The wildlands are very c
This is bugged for now.
This is actually an option that is turned on/off. I have no idea why anyone would not want full control of the camera, but I keep that off . I presume that by snapping back, you always know where north is, which sometimes comes up in quests etc.
Intellisense + not enough sleep = sneaky bugs.
Take 1 was a little goofy, but I like it because it looks like the magic has a mind of its own. Very mysterious.
So far like it. Just to throw some extra idears in. How about tech which show up during game and/or require some word stuff. For example: U need to hold a (unique) location to be able to research some tech (+ have some prequisits) U need to have a special hero/item/spell active to research some tech U need to accept some (temporary?) negative influence on the empire (slower growth, less productivity...)
What happens to all my games when Gamestop goes belly up in the next industry crash?
Ew, I'm not sure I trust Gamestop to fulfill Impulses legacy. I predict some really unfortunate decision within a year, something that will backfire to a degree that will leave the industry lost and confused. But... maybe that's what it will take!
cephelo, have just received some info from derek paxton about map sizes in 32bit being that the largest map that 32bit elemental can handle IS 12 x 8. pity as I like having some time to build up my faction before having to war. harpo
12x8? I'm sure 32 bit Elemental can do bigger. :)
I downloaded the Elementerra2 zip file and unzipped it. When I try to run it, however, nothing happens. Is there a specific location that the unzipped file needs to be or is there something else that I am missing. Thanks.
Something should definately happen when you run it. If you don't have the .NET framework 3.5 installed, you should at least get an error. Just unzip it into
And of course customers should not feel that those 3 factions have been removed from the game just to be able to sell them later. Tey must see that having only 3 factions at the begining has made the game either cheaper or better (or both).
Isn't that impossible though? You can only design the game for either 3 factions or 6 factions. If you design for 3 factions, than the additional 3 can only be superfluous, If you desi
Hmmm I downloaded the file again from mirror and don't seem to have the User Defined Breakpoint happening anymore, the main download link if I download from that and then open and use the file I always get that error... odd... Do wish there were a bit more options in the random map generator, so far you got one giant continent that is generated by the map maker, be nice to have more variety in it with options like islands or being
I've run into a snag... I keep getting a user defined breakpoint or something. No matter what I do, no matter what settings it always happens. First of all many thanks to cephalo for this really awesome program Unfortunately for some reason I can't get it to place any resources on the map. When I start the generator up I
TW has always had that cavalry cheat where you have to charge in close before the actual charge.
