It only makes sense if fire/water/earth/wind will add "effects". Like a lightning storm will stun, and a fireball will ignite. Then a simple "Arcane" damage would be a good idea.
Agreed, But , they haven't said whether or not they'll be adding Any kind of "Effects". I seriously hope they do something with different kinds of magic spells, if they don't then spells won't mean much in th

I think the movie looks decent. What surprises me most is I don't hear a lot of people talking about the allegory for what the movie is supposed to mirror, which is how the settlers and US Government unjustly wiped out the Native Americans and took their land.
It sounds pretty good. It does raise a few questions though. Will having just "Arcane" magical damage limit spell creativity in any way? And, how will customization fit into a scripted story line? The story will have to be handled creatively so that any character the player might make can be inserted into the story.
There will be the "manly" players that will adamantly avoid the "Impotent" trait like the plague.
Why yes, Yes there will. :P
That was classic Frogboy, thanks for bringing back the memories. I'll bet who-ever holds the rights to MoM these days (Atari?) will get off their asses and make a MoM 2 after they see how hugely successful Elemental is. The market for Fantasy War games is huge and I'm sure you're going to make a killing with this.
Personally I think the FPS Genre has been going down hill for a long time now. People expect more from their games today then a simple "point and shoot" game but sadly that's what most of these games boil down to. On-line play is another thing these games try to use to carry the gaming experience and that simply doesn't cut it for lot of players who mainly want a engrossing single player experience. Why do you think Halo has done so well? Because of the Awesome single player game. Multi

Partly because it's been put out by a smaller developer, partly because it's not getting any shelf space in stores. There's also a lot of little things still wrong with the game in my oppinion which you'll see when you read the review I'm putting up later tonight. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent game. It's H
As others have mentioned I love how this is starting to shape up. As an additional suggestion I'd like to see the History be chosen for you, where you have no choice in this as it is your history or how you were raised. However, faction should play some of a role here. For example, you take a faction known for Diplomacy, chances are that the histories tied to that have a better chance of appearing while the others less so.
Climber, Porter, did you guys forget to take your next turns?
Something tells me when Frogboy says
Speaking of sovereign “killin’” we do plan to have an option where your sovereign cannot actually die in battle for those players concerned about sovereign assassination.
he's talking about a simple option. Like in a toggle check box on the "Game Options" screen. I don't think he's talking about heirs and bloodlines carrying on after Sovereign death. I thought they were unshakable on the whol
Yea, if you're looking for it to be remotely interesting, that would likely beta BETA 3 which won't be until this Spring.
Fibber!!! It's what I would call "interesting" now, it's just not "fun".....yet.
Been working on one for a few nights now. Almost done.
I like it. I like it a Lot. Instead of re-posting what I posted in that post you reference though I'll just point you back to it to see the ideas I mentioned. Actually, here they are: Expert Channeler: Expert Channelers have learned to draw more power from the lands. They cast spells faster then other Sovereigns by pulling more Essence from the world. Increased magical power comes at a cost though as this Sovereigns mines must produce more Magic Crystals to keep up
I can think of quite a few options that would be nice here. A lot of them would require balancing and testing of course. I've gone a step further and split these up into "Positive" and "Negative" Attributes. Positive Attributes have at least one bonus but also have at least one negative effect. Negative Attributes have at least one negative effect but also have a small bonus of some kind. Attribute Cost/Creation Points: Each Positive Attribute should have a cost in "Att
Excellent post, Wintersong. Great idea's there. This is exactly why I'm hoping to have access to the "Custom Spell Creator" from In Game so we can use it as we play.
You know, now that I think about it, it would make a lot more sense just to have the names of the damage "Types" (I.E. Ice,Fire,Lightning,Mystical) to coincide with the names of the "Types" of Elemental nodes on the map. I.E. Water, Fire, Earth, Air, and Mystical/Magic. Sorry for the double post.
other than I would say flood is definitely water based and rain more water than air too imho (or perhaps a hybrid if there is such a thing.)
Hmm, that's true. Perhaps change "Ice" to "Water". A spell that would use a little water but still be considered a "Air" spell could be "Storm" or maybe even "Hurricane" which uses high winds to damage entire cities.
I definitely think "Lightning" should be changed to "Air". Calling it lightning or electrical limits those spells to all being lightning damage. What about Wind? A spell that creates a tornado on the field of battle would seem to fall under the "Air" category to me. A "Lightning" spell would fall under the "Air" category too I'd say, as would rain or "Flood".
It's not like any Aussie with an internet connection can't get those games anyway.
I thought the ways their laws were set up made it Illegal to have the normal versions of those games even sent in to the country? If any company saw a order for the game and it's address was in Australia they'd have to send that customer the Australian version of the game. I could be wrong about that though.

Great Demo vids Frogster. Thanks for a peek at what they can do.
