Ah, the joys of the so called 'free market.'

I'll pass on facebook, and gmail.... i'm minimizing my presence on the web... just too much BS.
32 to 48 hours is fine by me.... edit: submitted by turn 11.30 gmt, mon. Two hours later, llama server still has not processed turn, and shows my turn as not submitted. No email received regarding turn submission , either. Is server down again? Or auto host off?
Tophat 1812, I'm confused. its 16.19 Eastern time, (20.20GMT) and the server is still waiting for marvini... "you just ran the turn now" means?
Absolutely. The best games have two things that relate to this discussion. 1) Lots of 'interesting' choices. That means teleporting should entail some risk. And, of course, the 'more' you teleport, the greater the set of risks, and well as benefits. Interesting choices leading to interesting decision making. 2) maximum player flexibility in -- customizing -- the environment in which one will play. many features should be ac
48 hour turn cycle over weekend fine by me.
realistic? ah, ummm, isn't the whole game EWOM based on 'unrealistic' things? Its an alternate, fictional reality. We make of it what we wish, (or what we can get the developers to make of it).
I love SMAC, and still play it from time to time. But it is not, IMHO, a space based 4X game, except in the sense that all 4x games 'happen' in space - even if that space is earth (Civ series) or confined to another planet (SMAC). Typically, a space based game means interplanetary or higher in scale of game play, along with exploring other planets, solar systems, etc. Admittedly, I haven't seen one that scales up to actual exploration, between, two or more galaxi
And why aren't they (iCE) going after the very large number of 'people' doing outright pirating of intellectual property in China? Its this another example of , screw the small fry?
good tools Doc. thanks
This teleport issue has been discussed extensively in a number of threads over the past year or so. For me, the bottom line is that if a player wishes to exclude teleport of armies from the game, the solution is rather simple. Don't learn the spell, and don't cast it. The AI, last time i played, doesn't use it, anyway. A compromise, which has been suggested to SD a number of times, is to increase player customization of the game.
Actually, the jerks in Washington DC do fight amongst themselves - but much of it is smoke and mirrors. Divide and conquer (the electorate). I don;t see anyone in Washington demanding that the massive tax cuts on the uber - rich be rolled back, even a tiny bit. Cut the poor, cut the middle class, cut the govt employees (and remove their rights to collective bargaining), but don't even think of rolling back the massive tax cuts the uber wealthy had enjoyed since 1970.&nbs
These awards could end up being as famous as the Darwin awards. You've created a (fun) monster.
What bollucks! Doc should get an award for daring to give this award. i love it! mozel tov!
Harmony tree needs more leaves. Hostility tree is badly in need of pruning...
So, how will we know when to look again, if we are not on line all the time? i don't want to miss the turn, but i cant go on line every day to look.... edit; thnaks louist, will check daily, shold be ok. Entertainment under the Ice: Rumors are again circulating near sources inside the Palace. Complaints seem to relate to the sudden thawing near some of the Smurfette's favorite Jarls. we are having the same problem with our Dom3 game. Seems to be a problem with the server, etc., and not auto hosting.
Yes, rogue captain, we are poisoning ourselves. And we continue to live and push population growth in areas that cant support that population unless huge amounts of food and water (and oil -us westerners) are transported into those areas. I feel that it is so much easier to have babies without any training on how to parent, than it is to, as, doc says, get a license to drive a car. Add to that people have multiple babies with any way to feed, house, etc those babies, (or sometim
re: above post ; aye, but in my neck of the woods, there are way too few, living wage, jobs (forget retirement) available to the bulk of the population. Everything is part time, no medical, or vacation, often with crazily scheduled shifts. Some people are working 12-14 hours a day, 5 and 6 and 7 days a week, at 4 or 5 'employers, at a pittance, just to pay for rent on a barely livable apartment, and feed themselves and their 1 or 2 children. labor laws have
All it takes for evil to win is for a few good men [humans] to do nothing.
One part of the population equation that is missed here, so far, is the food/animal/factories that also produce horrendous amounts of methane. Feeding this human population, is a no-win situation. As the west increases food production, and ships it, sometimes freely, to 3rd world nations, their food supply increases, and their population goes up. Natural cycle. First world has cow factories, cows who live their entire existence in a tiny box, force fed chemicals and a

lupapilgrim, the problem with all the right of center parties in the democratic west chanting cut expenses is that 1) it is clear that this is an *international* movement, (which apparently meets and strategizes, not in public alliances, but in private-corporate cabals) 2) it / they always insist on also lowering taxes on the uber rich and uber corps. 3) And it tells the big lie that lower taxes will create jobs. Now, just look at employment levels, pay rates, etc., in the US econ
