I was at Sams Club and noticed they had 23" LG LED monitors for a great price so I picked up a couple. I'm in display heaven.
I've got one at home and I've put in several at work. Great price, especially with the successive "sales" that expire and are replaced by better "sales". These LG 2340EV have LED backlights, 1080p resolution, better buttons than the slightly more-expensive 2350s at NewEgg, and good menus. I'm no color expert but our art-depart

Just saw another case of a sovie carrying a book she should have read. This time there was nobody for her to hand it too. Just her and her stack after I took her last city. She spent several turns sitting outside my territory, then moved in so I killed them. I also would like to be able to pick up items off the battlefield (at least some good items -- I don't need a big collection of padded armor) but my main point was that it is silly for the AI not to use its books
Does willingness to answer questions here imply that we won't get to read the answers in the originally-planned sequels ?
Why can't these characters be in the game as champions instead of just Sovs?
I think he & I have both said that before, but one more time won't hurt (?)
Steve Barcia.
Wow. Brings back old times. And I knew immediately who he is before I saw the post below that says.
researched the usual tech under diplomacy without paying much attention and i got caravans just fine
me too
A few days ago in late-game I caught an Empire sovereign carrying 3 high-end books, like "talax v tandis", which give +8 to attack. If he had bothered to read them he might not have been such a pushover.
Nym is fun to play. Not having any spellcasting till late-game puts give the game a new flavor. But I suspect Xander is bugged. More specifically, despite having the "this unit cannot be the target of offensive spells" trait, he keeps getting pounded by offensive spells like "stab of ice". Haven't messed with enough other characters with that trait to know if it is Xander-specific or not. Meanwhile, I have bitched long and often about the blandness & weak
For a quick fix (like maybe 1.09F) increase the minimum distance between cities by 1 or 2 squares. Note, I didn't like the corruption in Rome:TW.
all was going really well. Then hit control-s and boom. crash zip file http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8928343/Elemental1_09e-2010-10-09T19-45-51-296.zip I think this is the save file it died creating. It's the same size as the most recent autosave http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8928343/QuickSave-OOM.EleSav</p
"The devs have to decide which route to go: AoW style or HoMM/Kings bounty style. Personally I would prefer AoW style with large battlefields and more wargame like gameplay. I think this would fit Elemental better than chess-style battles." I could go with Aow:SM style maps, but HOMM5-style turns an initiative system.
I personally don't mind armored spellcasters. So what if they they don't fit the stereotype-- maybe they use magic to get the armor and fit into it -- and pay for it :) I think the OP has a point about the archers however. I grew up with archery and the string-arm needs to be bent about as far as it is possible to bend an elbow. And be careful about armor on the bow arm snagging the string. Don't know about crossbowmen, but in a really nitpicky, realistic world
My main questions are, will units with really high combat speed 1: get to do a LOT when their turn comes ? 2: only do a normal amount per turn, but have turns come more often ? 3: always move first because combat speed determines move order ? 4: these are a meaningless question because combat speed will be completely re-done ? Hint: there's a character in the extra content for the book who is insanely fast. Combat spe
Sign me up for another dose of beta pain. Will fun be permitted this time ?
Homm5 had good stuff with families of rare items that gave extra bonuses if the same guy had 2 or more of the same family. In Elemental, the equivalent would be if the sword and shield you can get form midnight stones each gained effectiveness if you had the other. Then add midnight-stone greaves, helmet, etc, etc., with bonuses stacking more with each item. Agree with point b) re leveling.
Just increase the minimum distance between cities, and increase cities' zone of influence by about the same amount so we won't a big problem with resources that we can't exploit.
I love the names of the guys at the end.
Yep
My main gripe with champions is the fact that they can only gain XP via combat and they can never increase their non-combat abilities. If I have a sage or a merchant stationed in a settlement for hundreds of turns, it only seems reasonable that the champion would get better at research, trade, farming, etc.
Yes. Well, not quite my main gripe, just one of several.
Nice. I hope we can click on the column headings to sort by population / gildar / food / whatever. Actually, if we can sort, my next request would be for separate, sortable columns for food, tech research, arcane research, and everything else that cities can ever produce. Nuke the wide "#1 resource" column to make room. And another vote for flagging cities with housing shortage with different colors. Maybe green = ok for next level; yellow = will need more; r
Black-Knight has a good point about units being too slow.
There have been many suggestions that heroes are too weak, too all-the-same, need to level-up faster, need more variety of special abilities, etc, etc. I started one thread on that general theme months ago in the beta days. My point now is that there are also just too many of these wimpy, bland heroes. And if they address the above points, heroes as a group could actually be too strong. Currently people use heroes as scouts and cheap garrisons, but what if all those
Also A "bare" hero can be a reasonably cheap garrison unit. And when an attack seems imminent, buying him a bunch of stuff is the fastest way to bulk-up a small garrison to fight something off. Dreadfully expensive, but still the fastest way.
yes to hist first request, though its not my top priority. I'd just as soon limit looting weapons & armor to heroes.
I had my 1st ever "out of memory error" a couple days ago. XP sp3, 32 bit, 3gb ram. So its not just 64-bit OS. Normally in late-game the game slows down, has constant disc access (sign that it is out of "real" memory and pounding on the virtual memory), and crashes every 20-30 turns. I interpret all that as signs that it is ALMOST out of memory, but its only "officially" been out the one time.
