Agree.
Just steal the implementation from Age of Wonders
Or MOM. I bitched about this a few months ago. Glad to see it raised again.
Works now.
Problem was fixed 2 days ago i think
Not quite -- didn't work here 2 days ago.
Same here as OP.
The re-login trick (reply #10) worked for me too. *sigh* I don't THINK I had changed credentials for a long time, if ever. Not for longer than I can remember, and certainly not since the original beta, where I never had this problem. Anyway, it works now.
I don't do anything but run AVG and haven't had an infection in years
I haven't either, myself, but I am responsible for all the PCS at the company, and some of those users......
What is a CK, to boot from?
Sorry, I meant "CD", as in boot from your windows install CD.
Honestly, if your PC is that badly infected, then the best course of action would be a clean install of Windows.
Absolutely. Boot from CK and nuke the HD down to bedrock first -- delete & rebuild the partition(s). After the clean install, update your security software and get windows updates, etc, etc. Every security pgm I have ever seen needed tweaks to make it more strict / paranoid than default. I also tweak lots of browser & windows s
Since updating to the new beta, have been unable to get the game to start. Tried uninstalling, manually cleaning out the folders and re-installing, changing DNS servers, etc, disabling some security software, etc. Have also tried running the .exe from a shortcut, running from withing Impulse etc. All other internet access is working. Impulse & Elemental are on my security software's trusted list, and the security logs say it didn't block anything at the relevant
Tried more tricks, without any success. Uninstalled & cleared out the folders. Tired installing 1.09n and got the "file smaller than expected" message a reported in other threads. SLOWLY downloaded 1.09e, then 1.09n again. Still get the same error message over & over when I try to run it. (FWIW, I was in the original beta and never had any such error message back then).
Just updated. Same error message as above. Logged-in to Impulse. Security software logs say it is'nt blocking anything.
In GalCiv 2 planets might defect if they ended up surrounded by another faction's ZOC / SOI or whatever you call it. I wonder if something like that might show up in EWoM after they get other hi-pri items taken care of.
"sphere of influence" works. Agree that ZOC doesn't.
#109 and the 1st part of 108 seem pretty much the same. Both work for me.
Simplest way I can think of to make heroes last longer is to have some type(s) of Raise Dead spells. Maybe one immediate on the battle field and one for later use from the strategy map. Maybe also some sort of Amulet of Resurrection that lets the bearer rise from the dead after the fight, only if his side wins. MOM & AoW:SM had these, so if EWoM wants to be their successor.....
Uber-champs don't have to be random. How about an expensive-to-cast and/or hard-to-research "summon champion" spell ? Not terribly unbalancing in my book if I it is the eventual payoff after heavy sacrifices to get him.
Agree with OP. Big MOM fan here, and would like heroes & champions here more like those. Don't care if they are too strong -- counter the other side's uber-champ with 2 uber-champs of your own. I think heroes are the main point of a fantasy game like this. If you don't like them you might as well be playing a historical game like TotalWar, or a sci-fi game like GalCiv 2.
Some of the book content is out. Some extra choices for sovies (3 of whom I have played) came 1st, then an extra map which I have not checked out yet. There are supposed to be 3 more things coming over the next few months. I'm pretty sure the remaining extras will have to wait for 1.1 patch. Not just a matter of "priority" but also avoiding wasting time on double-work -- I suspect that all the extras will need some re-writing for the patch, so why do more the old way
moving to a new house
you mean ..... leaving the mouse behind ?
And if we don't like the idea of easily picking up the loot on the battlefield, how about .... if something really good is lost, spawn a goodie-hut and let us battle the ghosts of the dead to recover it.
I'm still on the SSD sidelines myself, but I suppose anyone who has one can mitigate the write-limit by moving the temp folder and swap file to the old-style HDD. I *guess* the swap file is the worst thing to have on a write-limited drive.
Any modern SSD (second generation and over) is no longer plagued by "write limits". I've had my Intel X25-M 80GB for just under a year now and it simply blows any mechanical HD out of the water in terms of speed.
I think
I've done lots of Dells & Gateways and other brands at work and at home, but my current favorite for general-purpose computers is Systemax, especially the build-to-order options from TigerDirect. Less bloatware than Dell Dimension or XPS; more expandable than Dell Optiplex or a Vostro with comparable case size. Good support. Their main weakness is lame diagnostic software compare to Dell. Also they don't have so much is specialized gaming rigs, so probably not much
