Me too. Despite my hard-core anti-RT"S" leanings, I would be happy with a real-time tactical battle as well, provided that there is a pause button that still allows you to issue orders and observe the map.

One thing that I thought of was "self-increasing divergence": the more you go Gandalf, the more your champions and heroes effect your research. The more you go Sauron, the more important buildings become. Plus, as opposed to champion-centric research, it might be nice to learn spells via dungeoneering: the ancients probably built some BIG libraries.....
lol... I hadn't even thought of that... having your own weapons turned on you would suck hugely...
That would be pretty interesting..... might put some emphasis back on training the unit itself..... especially if effectiveness w/ item is tied to training profficiency........
1st option is wrong. Civ 4 has C++, Python and XML modding capabilities. You seem to mention only XML in Civ 4.
I was not referring to Civ4's entire modding system per se. I was referring to its XML component as an example of what an XML system looks like, for people who are not familiar with it.

You know, I am beginning to wonder if there are actually two (or more!) people using the Strikesback5 account: sometimes (s)he's lucid (if not truly insightful), and other times (s)he's like this, a cross between annoying (but relatively harmless) spam and true trolling.

As long as it's not real-time (or has an EFFECTIVE pause system), I love it. If it is real-time and the pause system curtails your UI or is absent altogether, why bother?

I find rick-rolling to be stupid. However, I apply my general rule for stuff like that: "They want to irritate you. Don't give them the pleasure of succeeding."

This will to some degree be remedies by the "going Gandalf" system, especially if the game is able to sense when someone is steamrolling and begin to direct events at them to compensate.

Well, to have lightening as its own element, you kind of need to have a counter-element. Any ideas?

Seconded. What is up with this guy, anyway? Not all of his posts are like this... just some.
