The way I see it, when night comes, you pretty much have to stop what you are doing and hunker down, as both sides will be exhausted and no-one will be able to see.

Sentient mounts saunds alarmingly close to the "raging" debate, but I definately want to see some wierd things in there. Maybe a "mind link" between mount and rider: they are able to act as a single, co-ordinated entity, but if one dies, so does the other.... Welcome to the forums, BTW! Sounds like a lot of work for the devs. Still, I see no problem with it from the gameplay perspective, so if they have the time, it could make some people pretty happy...
In any event, the devs have gone to great lengths in order to differentiate the two games. If they really were supposed to be on the same linear timeline, I think they would have made that fact much more obvious. They may be put together in "spirit", however... just like with MoM.
I see essence as a "magical" concept in the sense that it does not exist in our world, however it is not the same force as the magic that makes up spells. Unfortunately, in a game as magic-centered as Elemental is shaping up to be, I doubt that a faction completely incapable of "offensive" magic could survive to be anything maore than a minor player. Although you could always mod them in to see what happens...
I guess it all depends on how well the AI can handle it. What I am hoping for is for the AI to be able to understand that it should not use this spell just any time, but still use it in a few rare situations, to add a little tension. Maybe not TOTAL destruction, and if the AI cannot get it, then ndefinately no.
Me, to. That makes perfect sense.
Oh, by no means am I considering taking away the "you won" button. I just want the option of clicking a "keep going" button instead. Civ 4 did it, so I know it's possible. I do agree, though: a victory condition should actually make you win , as opposed to being an unnaturally strong bonus.
While that is true, I for one would find it great to just cut loose after a long game and smash all of those bothersome opponents. Winning should be fun.
Indeed you could. Plus, as I repeatedly said, they would make a great minor player.
Almost:
But wouldn't it be awesome if you really WERE turned into a god and you had near infinite mana, essence, and casting ability.
Although I do not like the idea of being able to lose after you win. Godhood should give you an option to end the game now, or tromp around and smite people for a while, but there should not be much risk of losing in
Yes. The fact is, magic is shaping up to be such a huge part of Elemental, I don't think you could seriously stand a chance without it. It is, after all, a War of Magic .
Since I have never seen anything like a "master quest" in any other game I've played, I guess it all depends on what, exactly, the quest is. If it's a rediculously powerful artifact, then I don't know, but if it's a sacred place that turns you into a god, I think that it might be a ltiile hard to keep the game running.
I see the main probelm being that they are not allowed to use magic, and would thus get clobbered every single time. That's why I said they'd make a good "minor race": they might put up a good fight, but there's basically no chance that theyu might actuially win.
I'm not entirely sure it would be a good idea to entierly remove the magic angle from a faction. These guys sound more like a "minor race", for you GC2 fans out there.
Cold War Nukes Spell (not the in-game name [e digicons]:P[/e] ) : Kills all of your units, cities, etc., plus all those of one other channeler you select. Useful for mutually-assured-destruction situations, as well as going out in a blaze of glory. Note that for it to work the way I want it to, it should actually be fairly easy to research (although not effortless) so that multiple people can get it. That way, you can have situations where people are hesitant
Although Brad has sort of denied this, I think it might be nice to see some types of creature that are weak on their own, but can team up to be something formidible. Zombies and insects immediately spring to mind.
Well, I have an entire summer vacation to enjoy the testing process.... since I'll be done with my stupid community service thing by then, I'll have all the time I want to sit at home and mess with it!
True, true. Brad'll do anything to plug his AI.
What I meant was whether this was Boogie's idea with the rest of the team's approval, or if he was just the chosen front-man.
I'm beginnig to wonder if these "leaks" are officially condoned by Stardock... I know that they don't really mind (they obviously read the posts, so if they cared about it, he would no longer be doing it), but I'm not sure if it's just a BoogieBac thingy or if somebody is saying "go on the forums and leak blahblahbalh".
Well, of course different undeads would take different amounts of essence to wiork, but I don't think that any of them should be essence FREE. I am perfectly fine with zombies taking, say .01 essence point to make (thereby making hordes a real possibility), and I also think that most should not take essence to maintain. I do, however, want undead tied in with the essence system, so that the people who go Gandalf can have an option when they want to divide their forces (which would be
Necromancing this thread (if you will pardon the expression) in order to consider the new info we have gotten: I am assuming necro spells will be under the "life" branch of magic. Also, it seems like undeads would also require a fair degree of essence because They are "permanent". They are actively controlled by you. It seems like you would need a portion of your "spark of life" in order to make them anything more than corpes
