Quoting kyogre12, reply 32 ...The problem with using essence to build a city is that, at least with the current mechanics, weakening your sovereign doesn't really matter. By the mid game, the generic units are good enought that no matter how much you level up your sovereign, he/she can probably be one-shotted with arrows/catapults/other magic users....That is a problem -- Sovs and champs are pretty squishy, so comba
This sounds great, but I don't think it's actually possible to "unlock" campaigns in this manner. I'm still trying to figure how Book 1 does some stuff (can't find an xml with any of the conversation triggers or the like ) so I'm not ready to say that some kind of condition based unlock won't be possible, but the game just reads all the files when it starts, so if the Mery/Pippin and Legolas/Gimli/Aragorn campaign files are there, they'll probably show up from the start.
<
Kyogre, have you given any thought to the format of the campaign? Meaning, do you want it in the same style as Elemental's Book 1 where you basically play one hero (Frodo, Gandalf, Aragorn, whatever) and play the story from their perspective, or where you're more detached and participating in all of the story's events? For example, if you're just playing Frodo you'd have an extended Shire and Bree section, you'd miss Helm's Deep, assa
The original concept for elemental had something like this -- essence was the 'power' and it had to be invested to create a city. If a Sov created a lot of cities, that reduced his/her personal power. A Sov that only had a few cities had more personal power. Thus there was a balance between the large and small empires -- the large had relatively many cities but the sov had relatively little personal power to cast w

I got Barad-dur into the game! It obviously has some orientation issues. And scaling. And texturing, but it's in (and it's currently taking the place of a catapult, but whatever[e digicons]:P[/e] ).

The old "Going Gandalf" strategy[e digicons]:P[/e] I've long hoped that it would be a viable strategy, but as marlowwe said, the game has pretty much evolved away from that.

Consider me one of those six who care about scripting[e digicons]:P[/e] Now, I can't speak for anyone else, but honestly I'm not concerned about the scripting support. That's not to say I don't want it soon, but I think we can all agree that Stardock has more important things to work on at the moment. Modding is great, but they need to get the game to a point where most people are happy with it before they can really focus on it. Plus all the optimization work they're doing on it goes

It should create a new file (same place as your current save location). Interestingly enough, elemental seems to have no problem reading

Hopefully this thread doesn't get lost in all the other posts. A fairly significant balancing issue (IMO) with the game as it stands is that small kingdoms are almost impossible to play as. There are a couple reasons for this, as far as I can tell: 1. Resources in your territory don't always link to your cities. This may or may not be a bug; I'm not really sure if it's intended or not. My impression was that if a resource is in your territory, you can build on it and use it. The build

I'm about half-way through it right now. It's not horrible like some people make it out to be, but it isn't Pulitzer material either. Some of the grammar and punctuation is definitely weird, but as long as you're not some sort of grammar nazi [e digicons]:P[/e] you can probably enjoy the book. The story isn't super original, but it isn't too bad either. If I were to compare it to, say, all of the Star Wars novels, I'd say it's better than most of them, but not as good as the Timothy Zah
