You don't need to be a rocket surgeon to know that if it's got cactuses in it, it's a desert. Wow, that line is either comedic genius, or the result of sleep deprevation, and I can't tell which. Just in case, it's rocket scientist, and cactus grow all over the place, we've got prickly pears in our frigging yard, even in this drought we still measure yearly rain in the inches.
If I recall correctly, the "rocket surgeon" thing came from Ted Stevens,

You get all kinds of promises and perks promised and blah blah and in the end you end up waiting on them to do something they promised months ago. What a nice excuse using Demigod as a reason for the setback and you all still waiting to
The scientific definition of a desert is an area that receives on average less than 250 millimeters of rainfall each year. So... they are not misnamed deserts, they are definitely deserts. In fact, most deserts are not covered in those stereotypical sand dunes we always see - they are often rocky, and they are often covered with low, hardy vegetation. I have been in many deserts like this, and let me tell you they feel very deserty - they might not get crazy sand storms like in the Sah

I just put up the first (and so far only) update from week 3. Because week 2 didn't have a lot of updates, and it doesn't look like week 3 will either, I'm just going to combine them in the same thread.

A couple months ago there was a new story about how some airline (don't remember which, I think is was some South American one, but I'm not sure) actually did this. If I remember correctly, they did where every pound over some weight limit you were, you had to pay $5 extra, or something like that. And, like Silver said, it created a bunch of backlash because people considered it dicrimination. I'll see if I can find that article. EDIT: I can't seem to find that article (it was a
Quoting kyogre12, reply 15 No, the point of using multiple, less powerful missiles as that you didn't need to get them as high. Instead of one really high missile taking out the whole country, you would have multiple missiles taking out smaller sections, which wouldn't require as high-powered of a missile because they wouldn't need to go as high. That is false. If you don't get the altitude, you don't get quite the EMP. The range and strength of an EMP detonated w

sorry for the double post, but this was posted while I was making my first post and I had to respond.
taltamir, while I agree with you that ManSh00ter is underestimating the power of EMP's, I think that you are not taking into account the incredible unlikeliness of such an attack.
They could do it with multiple nukes+missiles, which wouldn't need as powerful missiles, like the OP, but that is still very unlikely. To get an effective blanket EMP instead of a localized one, height is extremely important. To trigger the effect, the bomb must be above the atmosphere. Skimping on the missile is probably a mission-fail
No, the point of using multiple, less powerful missiles as that you didn't need to get them as high. Instead of one really h

Even a slow rise in water levels would be disasterous. Untold amounts of land would become unusable, and there would be serious overcrowding in surviving cities. taltamir, while I agree with you that ManSh00ter is underestimating the power of EMP's, I think that you are not taking into account the incredible unlikeliness of such an attack. You could, theorectically, wipe out the entire country with one nuke, but it has to be high enough above the planet that it is all but impo

Personally, I think that any sort of research victory should take a huge amount of time to complete, no matter how much +research speed ability you have. What I didn't like about the technological victory in GalCivII was that by the time anyone started researching it, they probably have very fast research, so you would get the warning that they started, then 30 turns later they won, and there was nothing you could to to stop it because it took 28 turns to get to their planets. I guess its true what they say about people being like frogs in hot water... if the change is gradual enough, you can boil them alive and they won't even blink.
Agreed. What bugs me even more than people's refusal to take it seriously, however, is their idea that "it isn't our fault, so we can keep pumping s*** into the atmosphere without worrying about anything" Maybe (although I don't think so) they're right and

From the first paragraph: 5 container ships in the gulf of Mexico fire medium range SCUD missiles high into the atmosphere until it reaches far above Kansas and other states.
