Updated.
kyogre12
I've updated the main post with my initial thoughts on the heros+units for Gondor and Sauron. I will add them for the other races eventually. Keep in mind that these are still preliminary.
Updated, although I'm pretty sure everyone knows by now that Beta 1 is out[e digicons]:P[/e]
I realized I forgot to add Angmar to the list of factions, so it has now been added. I also added the respective sovreigns of each kingdom/race/empire. Heros will be coming later.
Plus there is the slight problem that it is supposed to be released tomorrow, 9/17. Since it is still 9/16, at least in the US where Stardock is located, I'd say it's still way to early.
As has been mentioned, beta 1 will NOT be fun in any way. We are not kidding about this. Our objective with this first build is to get the parameters on which the game runs, how well it runs.
Until I actually play it, I refuse to believe you![e digicons]}:)[/e]
Thanks for the info on Jing, that looks useful[e digicons][/e] I'm like Landi, I've just put my screens on photobucket, but this should make it easier.
The anticipation is killing me![e digicons]x_x[/e]
"Now owned by Autodesk" is, I believe, the biggest argument against it. From everything I've heard though, XSI was a great program (and they used to actually have an affordable* version of it!)... Whether it will remain so under Autodesk's reign is yet to be determined. *(Around $600. Affordable by the standards of such programs, at any rate. Mysteriously, now that Autodesk owns them,
Just a little update on progress. It's going very, very slowly. If you're waiting to see the final product, don't expect anything for a couple weeks. And once the beta comes out work on Barad-dur will probably grind to a halt for a while[e digicons]:P[/e]
Updated. I can't wait for next week[e digicons][/e]
Nevermind then. I obviously need to reread the Silmarilian (I hate trying to spell that ) It's spelled 'Silmarillion'
Dang it! I didn't want to go look on my bookshelf, and this is what I get[e digicons]XO[/e]
Doriath is already on the list Right now I'm leaning towards having Doriath being playable. If I remember correctly, they did send out an army once. I might be remembering this wrong (so tell me if I am) but I'm pretty sure they sent out a force to help the Noldor in their "final" assualt on Morgorth. When they all amassed their forces for a massive assualt on Morgorth, and even Gondolin sent out an army to help. But again, I might
The elves of Mirkwood might work as a playable faction. Like everything else, much remains up in the air about how they will work, but I like that idea[e digicons][/e]
Also, if you do go into the earlier ages, Doriath is a must. It's led by Thingol, the mightiest of the Eldar besides Feanor, and Melian - a maiar! That said, considering they stuck almost entirely within the girdle of Melian, I think they might have to be a non-player race. I like the way you described
Updated with week 13. Of course, this particular update has already been on the forums for a while (stop doing my job you losers![e digicons]XO[/e] ) so it's not really news to anyone[e digicons]:'([/e] As much as I would like to, I cannon spend 24/7 monitoring twitter.
Sounds good, don't let me stifle your creativity, just giving some pointers. For Southern Gondor, you could always just leave them out and say your inspiration came more from the movies
Don't worry about it. Like I've said before, everything is subject to change. As for using the movies as insperation, what I'm going to try to do is use the books for the lore and the movies for the visuals. Because whatever the movies' other faults, they had some amazing visual
Dang that's a lot of stuff to reply to. Hopefully I won't miss anything[e digicons]:P[/e]
If you're going straight up 3rd age, or making it 3rd age centric, I would have to agree with Torment, magic is a scarce commodity in that time period. Magic is far more commonplace in earlier ages, but mostly because of the elves who brought their knowledge with them from Valinor and taught by the Valar, or the less savoury characters who learned the arcane arts from Morgoth.

Just an important note: If you would like to make a decent LotR mod, magic must be removed from it.
Not necisarrily. Like Ron said, magic is there, but it's subtle. And since it remains to be seen how exactly magic will work, it's too early to say that it should be removed or anything like that. @ Yestin: Right now it's too early for there to be any real designing or playtesting going on[e digicons]:P[/e] but your off
Let's be serious for a moment here, ok? My pre-order of the game should include: Sovereign's Edition. That edition should include: game, lenghty manual with information and stuff, some kind of artbook, OST, the campaign's Cloth Map, a figurine of the Sovereign, Brad's book, Elemental mousepad, download for Elemental Desktop theme, Elemental Wallpapers & Avatars & signatures, pics of the Elemental Team, some kind of
How about this? I hereby stake my claim in the LotR mod. Sometime in the next couple days (probably the weekend) I will create a thread for the mod (I even have a name for it already ) detailing my very basic outline of my ideas. Of course, since we don't have a game yet, it will only be 3d assets for a while, but it can't hurt to get a head start on it now.
Ok, I lied[e digicons]}:)[/e] I found the time to make the post tonight, so here it is: <a href="https://forums.

(I saw you on my thread a while ago, so I know you're interested)..... and how did you get that screenshot?!?! It's waaay higher-res than anything I've been able to get with the camera-pointed-at-the-screen approach....
Maybe. I can make no promises[e digicons]:P[/e] But I can probably do a model or two for you, but not for a wh
