I am sad the irc client in my copy of impulse does not seem to work. not only does in not have #elemental, but when I join anything it is empty [e digicons]:'([/e]
Mom had things like mithril and Adamantine (sp?) that made a city special.

If trade allowed them to be used in other cities, this is a benefit for the whole kingdom, but it makes each city less individual.
Well, don't forget things like the nightshade, that couldn't be traded. I agree with you 100% that there should be things that make a place special. I feel that some resources should be tradable, and some shouldn't
that would be interesting. Curses on the enemies is a classic for when a powerful wizard or something dies. That would make multiplayer games really tense, because nobody would want to finish each other off unless there was a way to prevent it. Would there be a way to remove the curse? What are the catches? Because I wouldn't want to be the guy who happened to be foolish enough to wipe out the life-channeler just to find that he cursed all my units
ah yes. Earth-water definatly should have swampy things. Maybe we should start also considering 3, 4, or even 5 element spells. life - fire - water - earth - wind : void spells, prismatic spray, Master of Magic/Cataclysm/ F-everybody-but-me-spells fire - earht - water - wind: nature rending, worldly mastery (like perfect movement through all types of terrain and accross planes) Life-fire-earth : Magma m
that is pretty awesome. I'm surprised 'warlord' is so big, since I don't really remember anybody saying it. Channeler, world, game, cities, option, and so on are a given. They will be brought up over and over again in most threads (where bear might be said maybe once every other post as part of an almost joke). Then words like 'appropriate' start to slip in I guess because apparently most other common adjectives and articles are ignored by that list
its funny that you made a list of different ideas, but they are the whole threads. Like Specific vs focused tech progression is so full of ideas I don't know where to start.
Well, I called it necropolis because that is what it is called in HoMM. In AoW it is just called 'undead city'. In theory anything would work.
it could get the "Horse Master" trait, resulting in better cavalry. Another city that does nothing but make swords could get the "Master Weaponsmiths" trait.
That is kinda how I would like it. but I imagined other similar ideas focusing more on magic. Thinks like 'summon master' that ensures that summon creatures are ensured into spellbooks and very prominant. Or 'cavalry master' which lets cavalry units (summoned or otherwise) be stronger
I'll try.... Life: Healing, raising dead, holy/unholy Fire: Burning, heat, chaos Water: soothing, flooding, mystery Earth: mountains, defense, resources, land movement Wind: Tornados, Movement, communication, speed Life – Fire: holy flames, hell hounds Life – Water: fish, poison, mass healing, purification Life – Earth: Plant
Yeah, I might have to buy a copy to support it as well. I have a bit of interest in Prince of Persia, so I hope it is a good installment of the series.
woah... killing ourselves over Might and magic... whatever happened to my true might and magic games? I miss my 1st person = entire party dungeon crawling. but that is a different story. While the raw play has very different focuses, that doesn't mean we can't learn and use a lot from HoMM. HoMM has more focus on heroes, but that is mostly because MoM didn't have the scope to do even more than it already did. Logically, there is g
but these people are far fewer than those who won't even hear about it if it's not on Steam.
-sad but true. I know people who had that issue with Sins of a Solar empire for a while
I don't want an abstract Civ IV type system
Well, I think we defaulted to Civ 4 systems because Master of magic was so very similar to the the original Civ games. Like the order of spiritual sequels might go "civ, MoM, Civ 2, Civ 3, Civ 4" so in theory this game might come after Civ 4... i.e. advance on its systems the way civilization games advanced upon master of magic. AoW may be the closest thing to MoM we have recieved
Not really, a necropolis and a metropolis have the same difference as a swamp and a desert. One has an abundance and the other has none.
I disagree. I mean sure, the buildings might be similar (especially considering the grand architech might be the same), but there should be more thematic difference then the presense of people. I mean an undead city should look worn and dead, where a lively city would have festiviti
Another idea for pathing might be that during 'down time' when the game isn't crunching something particularly important like enemy AI's turn. it can just overview the map and find quick common routes and stash them between locations. Points of intrest like cities and portals could have quick access 'closest route is XXXX' saved so it doesn't have to do the math again everytime somebody tries to move a unit between the two locations"
I love it. My only problem I see is if my cities growing in directions I don't want them to. I mean great idea, but I like to have good control of my cities, at least if they push or move the build range for other things. Like I don't want the cities expanding on their own preventing me from building things at other locations (at least on their own).
I liked how in Civilization you can switch between globe and regular map. I hope Boogie's mention of it being non-square and tweakable is true. I am also down with the multi-dimensional. so whatever works with that.
Ice is composed of water but coldness itself is often asociated with air, the reason may be, one of the effects of cold is that it slows down; and slowing is the negative of speeding up, and speeding up is the domain of air.
I would accept Ice being wind/water combo spells. That being said, I would also expect it to be a wind and life spell. Life is often accociated with warmth and death is often related to cold. I would expect earth/life
I played it. It was awesome. I have tried both keyboard (actually my perferred) and joypad (only option for multiplayer really) both feel great! I am used to the NES version too, so it feel very smooth and easy to control by comparison
You know, I realized that we may have a problem with the classic necropolis/undead city. I mean ghost towns with zombies were made a classic in games like HoMM and AoW. They are enjoyed by most players I think, bone dragons always being cool. But with life and death being the same, the style might be missed?
I have mixed feelings about predetermined locations. It works pretty well in HoMM and other games. However I liked creating settlers to go and create new cities. It made the world feel more dynamic, which is something that MoM was all about.
The thing that I wonder is that if death is another part of life (which makes sense. I mean cure and harm are the same process if you think about it. And animating a dead body is about the same as bringing it back to life.) then what about your obviously evil necromacer type things. Its a classic in games like this to have your undead cities with bone dragons and the like. It would be strange to have the channeler using magic to spawn undead legions of darkness an
I want an industrial type city, buring coal and stuff for warms with old clay smoke stacks and everything. I want it be dirty and grungy. Alternativly something like iron town from Pricess mononoke (the cool smoke horison is I think key) I also want a cloud city. It might be connected to the ground by beanstalk or something like that, something that can be climbed with maybe a few buildings at the bottom, but mostly up in the clouds. Could possibly have floatin
Well, I think the important part is having any karma at all. I seriously doubt the bar would be very high. Just proof that you are a community participant. You have plenty of time to make your karma.
This is a really awesome idea. Sadly I'm in finals and haven't had time to do any art since the last emblems I put up in the avatar page. I'll be adding some for sure !
