The Cataclysm effectively took care of the Dread Lords and Arnor.
lol, sucks to be them.
started to born just before the Cataclysm.
before? Wouldn't that mean they are now dead and blown up with the cataclysm? Or do you mean the channelers and the starting towns were born before the cataclysm? I mean, obviously the towns and heroes will have people born afterwords right?
I'd love to see some anti-magic nutjobs out there who would go attack mages yelling Bad Magiks the whole time as a random NPC.
I am sure (there had better be) there is at least 1 anti-magic faction. I know thats not exactly what you mean (as you specifially described an NPC crazy old mountain man or something), but I'd be interested to see a faction that embodied that idea. I love in warhammer the crazy anti-magic characters and the extremes they go thr
I'd prefer wizards were individual units, but the essence system makes this fairly irrelevant. We're not going to be training wizards. It would be nice to have the ability to create magic users in some way besides essence transfers to heroes.
I wouldn't say that so soon. I'm under the impression that essence is different from magic. Essence is something a bit more potent I'd guess. So I figure&nb

I can see a wonder that is somesort of demensional gateway network that is a plane of existance constructed by the channeler specifically for his own use, magically 'encrypted' in such a way that other channelers have no way of accessing it since they don't know the correct incantations (or whatever). Like a dimensional pocket used by many D&D powerful wizards. It would allow him easy access to many teleportation technologies and spells for less and opens up the city building
I think the word you are after is "customization" - I thought this was going to be a thread about how the various races dressed! GalCivII has really good cutomization also I would be surprised if there isn't something similar in EWOM.
I also thought that. I also aggree about GalCiv 2. +1 I would like to see plenty of race/unit customization outside just adding swords for battle and armor for defense. I'd like to be abl
In Civ IV the veriaty was a bit lacking to my taste
is that before or after the sword of the coast expansion? I felt that (at least in the fully expanded version) they had plenty of bizzar random events like finding whatever (it changes a lot) and being able to choose if you are going to turn this into an advantage or sacrifice something to make it an even greater advantage. Maybe they will let us write up our own random events, or include additional rando

I mentioned somewhere (I think where somebody said they wanted to know how spell caster units would be made) I'm sure that just like how you can give a unit a sword, or a horse, you can give them spells. The spells would then open up the use of some sort of mana pool just like how a bow or sling would open up the appropriate ammo space. MoM treated spell casters pretty much exactly like ranged units, except you could sometimes cast spells using their ammo or a small castin

I was thinking about this too. I don't think it really represents the 'spirit of the nation' as much in some games than others, but I know what you mean. Its another feature that makes different civilization subtly different. I figured that it would be hardcoded and the civics are what would make the different factions different. If you recall we know there are two main races, the men and the fallen, but these 2 races are divided into 12 different factions. The

They said that the fantastic creatures are going to be a big deal. So I suspect they already have something like this planed. The end-game super creature, weather it be archdevil, archangel, dragon, storm giant, archon, behemoth, super-hero, or whatever else might be good for a crazy powerful beast. I personally wouldn't want to see tiamat just because I feel she's so over-used. I know you were just giving the example since she's a well known (because she's ove
The primary question which comes to my mind in regards to waygates are whether or not they are a connection to an otherworldly network of passageways, or the individual links from point to point. Perhaps it might start as the latter, but a more advanced mage could re-work the teleportation magic to force a jump to another point? Some detrimental effect would be good if that were anything but an end-game ability.
Well, I imagine we would have both for sure. Since t
However, I'd also love the ability to disable specific events - at least the major ones.
I think this is similar to the spells available idea, where I proposed a customizable spellbook option with saved 'sets'. So you have a list of all the random events with a check-box option available to which you want and which you don't. Then you'd also be able to add your own via the custom-user-content SD is proposing (if it goes beyond models and such). Then
A very tough critter randomly spawns and starts attacking anyone's nearby units until it is taken care of.
I think something like this would be really cool. Or several that each attack different players. Gates of the underworld opens up and demons come out is an option. Some events may be unbalancing and this would be it. I can see how a monster appearing back behind your front lines would be a problem unless other players face

well since this game is between what appears to be mostly human factions, so I would imagine like you suggested there to be elves, dwarves, halflings and whatever other races as neutral factions. So I'd want events that reflected that as well. Things like 'elves came to support your cause' and you get some mercenary elves swordsmen or something like that. I really like the minor factions in GalCiv 2, though I am always very annoyed when the jagged blade ra

I guess I just got to excited about the unbalanced spells and my brain 'filled in the blanks' when I read your post. I really like psycloak's tier idea. I'm all about the options that aren't hard to do, and really it would be pretty easy to have events orginized into tiers rather than 'no events' and 'events'. Have maybe -&nbsp

I agree that an expanisive story would be tough for this game, but I guess it would be nice. I wouldn't mind missing it. I would like a dynamic quest system where you are given quests periodically that have rewards. Similar to the Sins of a Solar empire, except maybe not directly related to AI opinion of you. additional resources would be enough for me (maybe a rare magical item?)

Woah, I misread that. Events, not spells ^_^; I'm sorry. Yeah, events are fine. If you want to play 'tournement style' or something, then let it be turned off. But for random play, I don't see why not. I mean, it can be fun sometimes to recover from a random super-disaster late game (I hate it early game though, because I'm a perfectionist and if my early game is messed up then I tend to throw a fit in single play

I don't feel bad at all. In MoM it was very obvious that late game abilities were unbalanced. Spells like "armagedon" and "great wasting" were so increably powerful there is no way they could be balanced. But that is the point. By the time you reach that point you probebly are already most of the way to a conquest victory anyway, or somebody else is because you've been focusing on research. I feel that it will make the game interesting. I always fel

If it stays to the promise of MoM (with a little bit of HoMM and the like) then there certainly will be. Temples, shines, monster lairs, and you name it will be scattered around the world for you to visit and take stuff. It was in AoW much more than MoM, windmills and mines and things generally on a larger scale then 'campfires' and 'chests' seen in HoMM (though the scale of HoMM leaves something to be desired). I imagine that we will be seeing around that a

I want that (I think I suggested it as well in the world ideas thread) I would expect flat, globe, and donut (toroidal) would all be pretty easy.
