My solutions to Killer stacks was always create my own killer stack (maybe about half as deadly as their killer stack) and go attack their capital while they are trying to eat my cities. ok, maybe it doesn't solve the problem, but usually they are undefended since they just put 80% of their army into 1 stack. It isn't as potent in MoM as it is later games (like HoMM or Civ) but I don't think we'll have the problem exactly like MoM in this game due to stack limitation cha

My favorite moment is when two HUGE fleets clash, provided one of those fleets just came out of hyper space pretty much in the other fleet. It is so fun to watch, since the exit from hyper space looks almost straight out of a starwars or startrek film (more starwars, because startrek is less common to see huge fleets all coming at once). Especially with the new explosions, the battles are great. If only I didn't have to almost micromanage my capital ships..
Given the nature of TBS ), we're PAINFULLY aware that the MP component has to be as flexable as possible. One of the ideas on our list is to allow for the game to support a 'Turn Buffer': a number of turns that the AI will take over before the human player needs to step in. Let's say I start a game with a 30 turn 'buffer'. We're playing, and I need to leave, so you play another 20 turns without me while the AI takes over my
And yes, you're right about the mana generator! If you look closely, inside the box it's pointing to it says "Shard of Fire"!
Ok, so you think it says 'shard' not 'shrine'? awesome time. But does that mean that the shard of fire is part of the city? or just happens to be next-door?
It'd also give the AI something to work with in Multiplayer games that are being played while you're away (per your settings).
signed, *fan community want info, rabble rabble* we want to know how combat is going to work beyond it being something like: HoMM, X-com, Total War, MoM, and or fantasy wars/general (Actually that last one I don't think has been officially mentioned, but I've seen several people around the forum, including here, relate that game to this one so I guess there must be similarities) *rabble rabble* I'm really curious how combat is going to work in th
I'd be concerned with balance on it. I really like the idea, however I see it being very important in feedback, since something like a quest victory can easily become too quick to achieve. I mean a master quest would have to be VERY freakishly hard to complete. I'd also want there to be certain identifiable actions being required in the quest. Like certain artifacts are needed, which are basically forced into several player's hands
YAY, frogboy drew that horse for us. it isn't that bad. This makes different buildings look really big, with each building takeing up one over-land tile. how big are cities going to actually become? I'm trying to imagine my MoM city if every building took up a space on the over map, I'd have truely sprawling metropolises. I'm also curious about this 'mana generator' is that a node... errr, shard? with something built
you have the most up to date flash. you need to be using the older version of flash. Its a pain, I agree, but its the only way. Try using Internet explorer if you are using chrome or firefox. If that doesn't work (because you also installed the IE flash update) use another computer at school or work or something that is really out of date for some reason (thats what I do) Worse case scenario, you will just have to uninstall flash player, upload your
the 300mb install is because it needs room to unpack and all that. the 300 should be the size of the compressed download + the uncompressed actual install files, or something like that. Its really not that big all things considered. I personally feel that the starbases are a much needed feature. Now we just need better AI and diplomacy options, so if only somebody thought of ... wait, that is the next expansion! so when's beta?&nbs
Nearby themselves because they're large?? The more space someone takes on a map the more likely they will be next to multiple players.
ah, you're looking at the boarder of the nation. I'm just talking on a per-city basis. Only the boarders of the nation would be next to another nation, and likely it would only be one or two. The cities nearby would mostly be the other cities of the same nation. The net growth in theory is still
The diagram was to show that Human inherited both Humanoid and Sentient and that Dragon inherited both Beast and Sentient (Should it have been Beast -> Reptile -> Dragon?).
I don't know if something that is a 'beast' can really be sentient by definition. One of the definitions of beast is 'an animal as distinguished from humans', another is 'a person who is brutish or vile', and lastly 'a lower animal'. Well, dragons are certainly not 'lowe
I agree with Iwarmonger, depending on how you set it up, the larger empire won't have anybody nearby to trade because they will be nearby to themselves. So a town surrounded on all sides by other nations will get better trade than a town surrounded on all sides by the same nation. Also a larger country that has 1 side of its boarder blockaded (or whatever will stop a trade route) something like 5 cities will be prevented from profitting, where a small nation that ha
as pigeonx2 says, the only way to fix the underdog situation is to have a different way to win. You cannot let the underdog respond with the same tactic, because then you're just going to have a longer game, not a better one. What that also means, is that you may need to leave on other victory conditions besides 'dominate' or whatever its called in this game. (I know many many people who have the tendancy to turn off all but 1 victory condition)
That is a website.... I am not allowed to see that anymore because I don't stop watching it. I've used it as background noise at parties before. Many songs have been nuked from youtube.
That convinces me that at least at the time that artwork was made, Dragons were not considered 'beasts'.
Somewhere frogboy said they probebly wouldn't have dragons as mounts just because they were special or smart or something like that. I'll see if I can pull up the post. it was back last november though, so maybe things will change since it was a while ago.
Some of these sound like features in board game emulators I've seen. I do not think we should encourage a player to 'keep the item hidden deep in a vault collecting dust'. It discourages trading, which is the opposite of what we want. If anything, I think he should be targeted by enemies anyway, but in a way that only players don't know. So then he has the options to A: Deal with the problem, or B: trade it to another player, who in turn will be targeted by t
Right, if people are willing to buy your game for $50, why not sell it for $50? I agree that digital pricing can be more flexible and responsive. I don't think Gabe said that $50 is overpriced, but that discounts at the right time can bring in big bucks. Everyone jumped on the L4D deal because its perceived value is $50. People are attracted to limited-time deals, even if they won't play the game very often. So instead of sti
Its true. if all my PC games were the $15 games I buy when steam goes on their 25-75% sales, I'd be buying a lot more games. (of course, I'd be even more backed up on my games, but still) I'm actually surprised more companies don't go for the "lower price for same quality!" sales pitch for the AAA title games. Even now there are no less than 2 titles I really want to buy, but they just won't break that $40 which I don't want to pay for them since I know I won
Actually, if magic innately drained life out of the world it'd be pretty strange/impossible to fix said damage with more of the same. (ie. channelers using magic)
maybe, maybe not. You can't make nothing of something. If using magic simply changed its form, then magic that might has been drained from the world, might be able to be channeled back in. In theory, if magic is put back in faster than it is taken out again you can heal
Score, I'll have to go wrestle some people who arn't already in the beta into playing now.
nah, don't worry about it. I cought exactly what you intended. I get in trouble because of that sort of stuff, along with the fact that unless I'm making an effort to type the way I talk, I default to essay style wording which sometimes makes me come accross as being more emotional about something, about which I actually have litte care. Yeah, to me it means simple minded. which again to me doesn't mean dumb, but I will drop that since I think we are at an und
I did not mean simpleton or simple-minded as dumb. I was more refering to frogboy's post
The architecture of the Fallen is very alien from that of men. More savage. More violent. But also more practical.
To me that stands for they follow the rules of 'keep it simple stupid'. To me 'savage' also is a synonym for 'barbaric' which to me is also simple. So while they are smart, they are straight forward and practical; Simple.
Awesome! I was hoping somebody would do that. Shows who the real grammar nazi is around here. I'm actually happy that without the use of any word processors, I averaged only about 2 misspelled words per paragraph. In spite of any jobs I've held as a writer, I am still terrible at spelling. That being said, I did try to look up some spellings and my research says that "multilingual" is in fact 1 word.
Well, they have not stated directly that the fallen are all evil, just that they have a simple attitude and are engineered to be more controlable for evil purposes. Because they were created to be simple minded, they are quick to use magic or whatever means needed to do what is needed. (reminds me of goblins from warhammer fantasy) We have not actually had it confirmed that the fallen themselves are evil, just that was the intention of their creation.&nb
