man, don't even suggest it. I'd really like to avoid the kind of heated debate that Hortz likes to bring. I mean, nothing against the guy. I bet he isn't a bad person. But my troll skin is sensitive to fire, and I am not sure this animation is up to 1989 sierra point and click adventure game standards, let alone 2009 whatever he plays standards.

Its true. MoM is still very buggy (though in its defense, its hard to say what is caused by it or by emulation means such as DOS box, which does have some strange speed issues with MoM) I think its almost to a point where MoM isn't even the target successor anymore. Just that this is supposed to be in the same super-sub-genre. Its just that MoM is one of the examples of a really jaw-dropping experience here, where most of

yeah, I fear a double click to zoom would annoy me since I don't know when I last saw a mouse that didn't have a scroll wheel (which is what zooms in this). A double click should be saved for other features, like opening status windows or quick-spell lists or something.

they (the devs) have mentioned a few times that there should be a way for units to automatically upgrade themselves when better equipment becomes available. Next major beta release is supposed to have the actual "skeleton" of the gameplay, rather than just a "does it run" test. So we'll have to see what it looks like from there.

Me too. One of the things on my "to do list, for the elemental community" is finding a way encode the layer music and do it justice. (likely just going to be an aac file of the merged tracks) so I can post the music available prior to having to wait for a soundtrack to be released with the Special Edition

As it stands the game still requires 3D rendering I don't think a netbook can really handle anyway, right? So not just UI, but other things I imagine will need to be adjusted for a super low-requirement cloth-map only mode.

To elaborate on what Vieuxchat is saying. You have a limited number of "tiles" that you can put buildings on. Once you place a building on a tile, that tile is developed. You can fill that tile (i.e adjacent buildings) but you can't actually open up another tile unless you have the room. So basically... if you can't build more titles... wait a few turns for your town to "upgrade" and you'll be able to build anywhere again.

he gets until monday to reappear and post the emblems, or I'm doing it for him. (I told him I'd let him do it, but I'm sure he'd understand. I don't want to rob the community of their avatars) wallpapers are also coming. Perhaps about the same time.

are we talking about the opening video or the main menu? (or the screen before the video that says This is a beta?) having hit "print screens" on all of the opening screens, I can say with certainty I don't have this problem. The 1st screen you see (might as well be a splash screen) just renders a blank black screenshot, the movie seems to work just fine (and screenshots just fine, I should actually have a wall paper related to this soon) and the main

I was playing around with it just now, and I noticed to failure to produce fog of war. I have not been able to approch a city and get far enough way to see if it fails to do so on the first turn, but I'm sure the capturing of cities will be ironed out. Edit: I managed to reproduce it. Great screenshot +1

as a guy who feels the need to embrace the future, I'd want AAC file support. Last I checked the DRM free files from itunes were aac files rather than MP3s, not to mention the higher quality and no limit to stereo. (I'm looking forward to the day I get my techno music in true 4+ channels) I'm down with jazz, but I think the music fits well enough for overland music. I'm anxious to hear the battle music though.

good call, I was thinking about recording some beta play myself, but you've done a bang up job so I say you did it for me. +1

I'm sure once diplomacy is implemented, open borders will be too. "unchangeable" is dangerous. You should never force movement without some sort of alternative. For example, the shortest route out of the territory is 4 turns, so then the player should be able to pick to which location those 4 turns are going to be spent. If it is unchangeable, players are going to become frustrated by it. heck Denryu's already frustrated by it, and it isn't even implemented
Probably took more effort to make that intro in the classic 8 bit than to have done it normally
to have what done normally? 4 screens with like at most 10 words on them in huge ancient font? plus a 2 frame landscape animation where the only animations are the eruption and river... I can't imagine how you could have an easier intro to make (except maybe no animation... or just a single screen... or mak

yeah, I had to fight with it a bit so I could get the HD option. my initial capture was in 1024x768 and all the pixels were nice and square. I don't think it warped the video too much (not any more than youtube did already anyway)

10 Replies 39,886 Views

I've wanted to share the opening video (and as much if not perhaps more the music) with friends. However being the type of recluse that actually stays up all night ripping intro videos off of recently released game betas, my friends are not often actually at my computer to show them. So I have to rely on youtube links. So I made a video (sorry to the one other guy who bothered to rip the intro video to my knowledge. your rip was a bit too short for my tastes)<

Reply to Cheats? in War of Magic

I'll give you a cheat. If you get two spiders to move on top of each other. You can attack one and get past them without having to fight the other! If thats not what you meant, sorry. Besides, what do you want to test at this point? you can complete the whole tech tree in a matter of minutes. There really isn't much else you need to do at this point that isn't available from the start or related to some tech

no, not that is released to the public anyway. Nothing is that solidified (like we arn't even sure if any of the current existing buildings are going to be in the final the way they are now, or if races are going to have the same bonuses, or any of that)

see now, I thought you were going to say it was. So I came running thinking "THEY DO!?" but now I see its a suggestion. yeah, totally. Light of sight should totally be effected by mountains and trees. Problem is that tall mountains should be able to be seen over short mountains and that sort of thing. Lots of complex stuff that could exist there. Hight should be a factor, so mountains can be seen over tree tiles (with reason) &nbs

yeah, or just auto-explore shouldn't be able to start a war (no 3rd option) Thats funny. I was talking to somebody else with the issue that it prompted for war randomly and wouldn't take no for an answer. Hadn't considered they might have a scout autoing into somebody's turf.
