This topic and been raised multiple times by multiple people (including myself). It is continuously falling of deaf ears it would seem...

While you're at it, please please please update the character item / equipment screens to something approaching Diablo 3 [e digicons]X([/e]

Regarding, how to make the "little guy" relevant if he's being out-researched: I honestly don't think those that are lagging behind tech-wise deserve some special bonus to make up for the fact that they are being out-teched. Coming from someone who loves trying to out-tech my opponents in TBS games, I'd be extremely disheartened if all that out-teching was nullified by giving assistance to the little guys. That said, there are a things that could be done t
In my game the AI is using wargs and poison because: The AI leveraged an existing random mechanic (map generation) by taking advantage of a warg den that spawned close to its starting position. The AI spawned far away from other civs and therefore made the decision to use wargs so that it can cover distances much faster. The AI scouted its closest opponents and saw that wargs would be particularly effective against the u
The game does not exist in a vacuum. This is something that a lot of people that always ask for toggles don't understand. Matches with random techs toggled on will be fundamentally different than those with random techs toggled off. A game designer will not be able to provide a consistent gaming experience nor any semblance of balance with toggles - especially toggles for fundamental game mechanics like tech trees.
I have

It sounds to me you're more interested in "gaming" whilst I'm more interested in an experience. I don't care if I'm getting better or if I just got lucky with a tech showing up. Not that I'm saying my perspective is any more or less correct than yours. For me, I'd rather play a game against an enemy AI, that ends up being limited to a set number of weapons rather than fight against an enemy that is just continuously researching the counter to what ever I'm

How about a simple toggle that turns randomized tech trees on and off. Because me, I love being forced to work with what I'm given. I want to be able to research caltrops in one game and slaughter an entire mounted army. I want to come up against a mounted army in a different game without caltrops and say, "damn, caltrops would have been really helpful. Oh well, this time I'll use (insert unique tech for that game)".

153 Replies 606,992 Views

This might have been said already but: Randomized tech trees are not about awarding players technologies that are more powerful than base technologies; it's about giving the player alternatives that may or may not be helpful depending upon how the game unfolds. For example, many of the random technologies in Sword of the Stars are not simply "bigger guns" but instead are "different guns". One game, you'll be wishing you had a technolo

As I was never too fond of the original research system, this is indeed happy news. No complaints, only a great desire for: Meaningful, unique technologies for race Meaningful, unique technologies for faction (Tarth, Altar, Resoln, etc) Meaningful, unique technologies for "side" (Empire,

I'm sorry but I find it to be utterly unoriginal: now instead of just being able to hire from one group of people (heroes) you can hire from two!

What purpose does fluff have if it serves no function? It has no purpose and is completely forgettable. When was the last time you picked lint from your pocket and pondered about casting it aside or keeping it for some other need?

Boogie, I was saying this in another thread, but you guys should use mocap for the human animations. I'm sure it would make your lives far easier!

Is acting it out in the office really the first step? Yeah, we literally stand up, go throhg the motions, and sit back down at our desk to implement. Think of 3d animation being a lot like posing an actiona figure...I want the attacking soldier to (1) pull back his arm, shifting his weight onto hi

I have no plans on using the store, I find the prices outrageous and over all it's a bit insulting. But I've heard that you can unlock most of the content for sale for free anyway so I don't really care all that much.

Oh, biggest annoyance with Portal 2 (aside from no longer being able to pick stuff up and throw it - seriously, wtf?) is the trajectory correction. While falling, you'll be guided so that you enter the nearest approximate portal. Only problem is it totally fucks you up if you've yet to re-position the portal you're going to be aiming for.

Having not read the books (waiting for entire series to be published) the premier left me feeling fairly lost. It was good, but I think it may require a second watch if I'm to follow the series.
Also, the game is pretty fun too. I really recommend playing Portal 1 first though.
It was too easy. SP lasted just more than 4 hours. Hopefully Coop will be fun.. (if I can find someone to play with).
Quoting lbgsloan, reply 23Seems like a suckers bet to buy any Valve game at day 1. Not because the game will be bad, I imagine it will be pretty fun, but because it will probably be on sale for 25-50% this summer and 75% off during Christmas. It's a single player game, so there's really no rush to own to day 1 IMO. But it has some new multiplayer elements. And day 1 DLC . Looks like

If all the other animations in the game are at this quality, then FE should definitely be a significant (visual) upgrade for WoM.
First, they get 30% of everything sold on steam. Second, they'll make it back a hundred times over from creating buzz around portal 2. The purpose of the ARG is not to make them money, it is to advertise their release to make them money. During the first part of the ARG it was "believable" that this wasn't just another moneygrab. Then they launched the second part with a HUGE FUCKING AD telling the players to
I've pre-ordered, obviously (yes, I said obviously). But I refuse to participate in this feast of advertising that is the ARG running. I said it from the start that it is nothing but a huge marketing ploy, and it has become even clearer now that Valve are urging people to buy other games in order to release portal 2 earlier ( http://www.aperturescience.com/glados@home/ ).
Ya!
