@ ALL the DRM complainers, Since the inception of DRM, I've owned games with all sorts of DRM ranging from Starforce and SecuRom to FADE (the DRM in Operation Flashpoint and was kick-ass DRM actually......enjoyed hearing about the pirated games FADE-ing away! lmao). I have not had one single issue with any form of DRM on any of my many computer systems (with a variety of hardware and O/S configs) over the MA
There would be no incentive to pirate games if it wasnt for the DRM so i dont get why publishers put it on. They would properly make up the mony lost to piracy from the cash they spend on DRM if they dropped it. And yes there will always be people who pirate games, but most of them are probably kids who play it for 2 days and throw it away again. 99% of the people buy a games why let them go through all that DRM shit when its 1% who is to blame
I still advocate the original hardcore EQ model of death penalties, forced grouping, and relatively long leveling time, I though it was absurdly ridiculous that I could hit max level in Warhammer in under a month of PvE solo play.
I doubt its going to have that. Very few people still want to make games with that design after Vanguard crashed and burned so badly that it left an impact crater. Outside of the hardcore
The storyline is based on a crystal shattering and scattering shards around. Channelers are powerful because they can draw from those shards, which aren't supposed to be all that common. If mana flows freely from the terrain itself, it seems odd that the ability to draw from it would be so uncommon. It also makes early land grabs more valuable because they translate directly into more mana without having to hold anything.
They really need to fix the advertised date on this, yeah.
It seems like it's pretty premature to be organizing a contest. Once the mod tools are out, people will need time to learn them. As for a prize, when release time is getting close, it might be possible to persuade Stardock to donate some swag for prizes. An entry fee would deter people, and a cash prize would be pretty tempting for someone to try and game the voting system, but marketing can usually part with some t-shirts or something. :)
The sword of truth was TERRIBLE. How can you include that? I think The Sword of Truth started out great. Wizard's First Rule is a first-rate fantasy story as far as I'm concerned, and the next few books in the series are pretty good, too. The story started to drag on and get too convoluted starting with the 5th book, at which point the series degenerated into a steaming pile of poo. Although still, there are some great m
I saw a mention in another thread of random events being class derived this time, rather then hard coded, and how that made it easier for the developers to add events. Presumably that means it'll be easier for us to add events too, if they give us a way. Good suggestion. :)
If your AI is going to remain in C++, will the game ship with a sample python AI script so that we have something to work with? Seeing examples is really helpful to learn how it works as compared to starting from scratch.
Man ChongLi you and I think so much alike. I am in so much agreement that player made maps and campaigns are such a waste because I will not play them.
Oh, well then is there anything else you won't be using, so we know to scrap it?
Now that we have most of the game technologies done, our new motto is 'Start small and build the fun from there'...with our beta testers help, of course
Looking forward to it. :D
I mentioned this idea before, but it applies here. How is mana from shards accumulated? Since having less essence seems to also give you less mana, what if mana from the shards was accumulated per channeler? If you have a fire shard and one channeler, they get *all* the mana from that shard for themselves (up to what their essence allows). If you have 10 channelers, that mana is split 10 ways. So yes, you have lots of channelers, but none of them have enough fire mana to do an
I'd be curious what you guys think about this subject as the beta's move forward...big expansions or micro?
It depends on what they're going to do. If the expansions are all going to do things like change how modding works (ie: force modmakers to change things in order to ensure that old mods continue to function), less expansions is better then more. If the expansions are mostly just adding things without breaking com
Quoting Denryu, reply 12 Is February 2010 still looking likely as a release date, or have the various setbacks this summer made that unlikely? Because the beta is almost 3 months late. I guess the game might be released about may 2010. Can't wait for the beta to start next month.
Way back many moons ago, Brad mentioned that they have two release windows. Ah, here
How do you determine what spells you have access to? Is it random, or based on what shards you can hold on the map, or based on picking "books" to specialize in at the start of the game?
This is getting more offtopic then usual. I don't suppose you can split the "how good was Tolkien" discussion to another thread? Please? [e digicons]:pout:[/e] [e digicons]:meow:[/e]
Maybe part of what we'll get by choosing a faction will be something that makes certain shard types more valuable than others, but I'm starting to suspect that there might not be anything like choosing to be an 'element' specialist, a dualist, or a generalist. If my suspicion turns out to be accurate, I'll be a bit disappointed, but explaining why would lead me to discussing the Unmentionable Predecessor...
heh.
I haven't seen anything about you choosing some other schools of magic during game creation. Did I miss something?
Having fantasty creatures being rare is a nice change. It's gotten kind of old to play a game that tries to make something like dragons seem unique and powerful, only they rain from the heavens. If I convince a dragon to side with me, that should be a big deal. It shouldn't be "oh go over there and train 200 dragons for a new squad." So this is a great direction.
Do it matter? i mean how often do you play with more then 8 players in these kind of games? This aint Demigod where a fight take 30 min. Now im not sure if Elemental will use a WeGo or IgoUgo system but in general it just tend to drag out if there is to many players. Its a pretty simple issue. I'm a paying customer. I refuse to have SecuROM on my computer. If companies insist on putting it on their products, I will not give them my money. I had problems with Mass Effect PC due to SecuROM, and that was that. Never again.
The random map generator was reasonably good at making fair maps. It wasn't as good at making "interesting" maps compared to what the map editor could do. AoW had very pretty maps if you spent a lot of time with the doodads and such. I've never seen a map generator get that type of accessory right, in any game.
Quoting sciborg2, reply 1Will the AI code be public knowledge then? Gawds above, below, and sideways, I surely hope not. Modding is interesting and all, but having the AI code out in public would inevitably lead to a bunch of tedious best-strat nonsense that could swiftly drain the life from the game for those of us who could care less about multiplayer and don't even think of 'winning' very often when we're off in the singleplayer san
I always liked multigroup battles in AoW. In particular for cases where I'd help an ally by putting a garrison in their town, that would let me join combat if they got attacked. Given that towns can be multiple tiles in Elemental, it seems like something similar would conceputally be possible. I put some of my troops in your town, and if the town is attacked, I can help out. It would certainly not make any sense for a third party to be able to conquer an allies town while my troops ar
I'd be very happy to learn of a game other than MoM that could meet that basic need for highly replayble TBS in a fantasy setting. (Age of Wonders doesn't count for me because it cannot generate its own maps.)
AoW:SM can. I found stuff made in the map editor to be better for the most part then the random maps, though.
