I tend to go with the minimum number of opponents for any given map size. I figure that improves my chances to find suitable space to expand. It doesn't always work; I still restart some games when they are hopeless.
Tireless march should be +1 movement for the unit, that's it, and maybe unmounted units only.
That's actually a good idea. It would give you more reason to create unmounted units late in the game by closing the gap in strategic speed.
I'm not sure it's a BUG and is therefore now WORKING AS DESIGNED because it's a very powerful overpowered spell that if one had the ability to cast it on all ones stacks one would easily drive and beat the AI on most ridiculous and insane levels even. The magic branch is always the one I hit last. Even then, the first things I research in it are the techs to hire heroes (and get tireless march and titan's call at the same time). I think it's pretty cool how there are things that can improve your military (in different ways) in all three branches. Yet--to me at least--the military tree is the most effective way to improve my military, which is as it should be.

Thanks for the heads up. I know now not to cancel my one and only Tireless March cast--at least until they fix this bug. (I think the idea to only allow one Tireless March at a time is a good one. I hope they correct the implementation of it soon.)

Heroes of Might and Magic 6 also did away with the random choices that all the previous versions had, and I miss the random choices. I also like the random choices in FE when your Hero levels up.
The tactical battles lack many more features that are defacto standards in modern games with similar encounters, namely: - adjacency bonuses/penalties (in Fantasy general, archers proficed automatic cover to engaged adjacent melee units) - unit facing + flanking - meaningful use of terrain - actual walls in city combat - ai capable of understanding the combat rules (i.e. not casting w
So... if I buy Fallen Enchantress right now on Steam, I won't get Legendary Heroes when that rolls out in April? Instead, it will cost $20? Hell, that's basically the same price as the current game.. think I'll just wait until April and see what I'll do. But this game does look nice. Odd how Jon Shafer's At the Gates piqued my interest in this. That game looks wonderful and I read how he helped design Fallen
There did pop up one thing that frustrated me, which is the Town Upgrade screen. When a town levels up, you get a pop-up window asking you to upgrade the town, and you can't do anything until you choose.
There is one thing that still works: the arrow keys. So you can scroll the map around to get yourself oriented. The choose-now-before-doing-anything-else popup is still annoying, but this helps me some. I also turned off Auto-Turn; the way it is implemented

I do agree, however, that the auto-resolve exploits is something I don't like. Also, the f-bomb detracts from what was otherwise an excellent post.

While I highly recommend FE, it may not be the game for you. I'm not familiar with ROTK, but from your description, it sounds like a lot of micromanagement. And if FE was that type of game, I wouldn't be playing it!
I do not want to win every game, but I want fair chances for all players in a game and I have noticed that this game is unable to provide equal chances for all players, which really ruins the game.
You are right. If you play a random map, it won't provide equal chances for all. But the start you went on to describe was so awful, that it was obvious to just start a new game. Random maps are a 2-edged sword. They provide varying deg

I agree with Kongdej: you can't win all your games--at least not us mortals. I'm not sure I agree with the part about enjoying losing sometimes, though! If I can't get a second city founded in a reasonable amount of time, I know it will be a short game for me. I do have two tips for you. Monsters only move 1 square per turn. So, as long as you don't end your turn next to one, your army should be safe. Of course, if it decides to go after your city, that's a
I would like to see more variety in the different units and races. Units have no abilities which would make tactical battle more interesting, they are still just cannon food. Maybe it would be cool to add for every race more special units, like special casters for Procipinee, which could cast 2 or 3 special spells. Or a special bow unit for the Tarth fraction, which can attack twice. It would be nice, if units gain skills after leveling up as well

An interesting perspective. However, there is more to consider. For example, I think my fire mage can take on more difficult enemies sooner than a melee-oriented sovereign. And by using little or no magic in more routine battles, I conserve mana. Now in my current game, I have an assassin sovereign with a maul weapon--fun! She probably is easier to level than my fire mage now that she is matured. However, I think this is balanced by the faster start my fire mage would have had. <

In my current random map game, I wiped out the Yithril except for its sovereign, Warlord Verga. He is sitting on a transport ship one square away from the beach. I can't touch him since I don't have a transport ship. Later on, I discovered the Resoln sovereign sitting in a transport ship but on the beach. At least I was able to attack him. I moved on and attacked the closest Resoln city; at first, the (sunk) transport ship showed up as defending the city. I canc

If switching a weapon costs the champion their tactical turn, it would make some sense. However, I hope they don't ever allow equipping both at the same time.

We are always clamoring for choices. Well, choosing a weapon is a a choice--sometimes a hard one. I think equipping a bow and a melee weapon makes about as much sense as being able to choose Fortress/Town or Town/Conclave when your village gets to Level 2.
