Thats a good solution. In retrospect a farmers house isn't any different from a regular house. All he really needs is flat ground and a tool shed. So as long as you have working farmers residing in your city then available arable land will b cultivated. It doesn't actually matter where the land sits. Sunny mountainsides? Vinyards are a go. Cleared hilly forest? Orchards and so on.

Ugh wikipedia. Its okay as a general resource but often its just the cumulative best guess of the internet. Written over the previous best guess of the internet I might add. Swords were also considered expensive and fancy, so as well as a "gentleman's" weapon they doubled as a status symbol. Knights generally used other weapons like axes because hitting plate armour with a sword is a good way to wreck the edge. As well lmastering the sword can take many years, far longer than other si

Sounds interesting. I would suggest making the system a bit more modular. You need full control over 3 things in regards to building layouts: Position of internal components. Configuration and shape of outer walls. Access between internal components and through the outer wall. Lets say we were building a small three tile city. The three tiles are arranged in a row. The first tile is open farmland. The next tile is divided into 4 build

Still it doesn't quite add up. Long piercing weapons aren't the greatest thing to use while grappling muggers on the street. I think one of the main reason everyone had them was that people didn't wear much armour outside of battlefields and it was part of the fashion to do so at the time.

Blacksmith should probably be divided into armoursmith, weaponsmith, fletcher, bowyer etc. "A" blacksmith was a guy who made belt buckles and horseshoes. A swordsmith doesn't have time to make such trivial things and requires a lot of extra equipment.

Hehe freespace 2. One of my favorite gaming moments was watching those massive beam cannons in action for the first time.

Steam does have a fully functioning offline mode. However it does have one extreme flaw. You have to turn on the feature manually, that is to say you must turn on Steam and tell it to warm up offline mode. If you simply lose your internet connection then the offline mode is useless.
So, I would say people can agree what rapiers are, even if that catigory is a little broad. No other weapons fall into it.
Oh we can agree what they are just fine. I mean we can all agree that a spear is a point stick of some description. If it doesn't have a sharp tip then it probably is something else. But when you go and look at historical examples of "rapiers" there is a bewildering array of swords with long thin blade

It looks like I am going to have to wipe and start over. But since it runs in safe mode I am hoping to clean it up to the point where I can salvage and store data on my games drive, then reinstall the OS. But if this is really bad and there is a rootkit or something still hiding somewhere would this be a safe idea? So far I have chosen: AVG free Malwarebytes Spybot S&D Avast I have a router as a hardware firewall. But o

Kind of like rapiers no one can agree what a pike is. The medieval english pike was often just a sharp stick. The greek pike was called a sarissa (or something like that) and it had a metal speartip and was extremely long. How they were used also varied. In medieval times the pike was aimed with the hands and rested on the ground, using the back foot to anchor the end of the pike. When Alexander the Great came around (or maybe it was his father) he introduced a new tactic to phalanx warfare.

Thing is, the specific type of spearmen mentioned in the cavalry > archer > spearmen circle is pikemen. What a pike actually is varies depending on who you ask, but in general a pike is a very long spear. So long in fact that it outreaches all other non missile infantry portable melee weapons. The real reason pikemen tend to beat cavalry is that the pikemen hit first. The pike allows the footman to kill or down the horse at a range where the rider is incapable of hitting back. Even

I have all the disks and such I need to perform a nuke and pave on this hard driv. The drive is 250 gbs and windows is intalled on a 60gb partition. THe rest is unused. Thing is, I have a second hard drive in the computer. Its also 250 and contains almost 60gbs of games. Is there any danger of this hard drive being infected as well? I would really like to avoid downloading over 60 games all over again through Impulse and Steam.

THe problem I have to begin with is that to install and or update anything I have to be able to log into windows. But if I do a normal startup instead of a safe mode startup I have no mouse and keyboard control at all. What could have caused this problem? If it was the virus then it must have damaged or destroyed something.

Might as well tell the story from the beginning. A couple days ago I was visting a webcomic site. I have a few favourites and I tend to check them daily. Teatimer from Spybot S&D piped up with a warning. It had something to do with "flash32" and the registry. I didn't know what it was so I hit "denied" . Today the problems started. I noticed that the computer was getting a bit unstable, games would behave strangely. My music player would sometimes hiss and pop for no reason I coul

Every battle that involves enough ships to form a "cloud" battlefield instead of two lines facing each other. Its fun to watch the guns blast away in all directions instead of only bombarding those ships to the front. Now if only those turrets rotated and tracked targets, that would make combat even more fun to watch.

I have never had major problems with any of Valve's games. But they do have a history of problems with thier third party titles. To give you a recent example the demo of Grand Ages: Rome which I was looking forward to does not download properly. Even if you manage to get it onto your PC the demo won't run anway.

As far as thinking goes, probably well over 100 hours if you count all posts made up to now. As for studying, I didn't do a whole lot. Most of the knowledge used was theoretical and I picked it up all over the place. If I googled something it was usually to check the spelling on big words I don't use much. Suggesting ideas for games has long been a hobby of mine. I tend to migrate around to different games and forums, stopping to talk in detail if I catch a bit of inspiration. Just a couple d

Then why not get rid of map tiles then? Killer stacks only look stupid because they stuff a ridiculous number of units into one small map tile. If you allowed the army to spill over the edges you could still navigate that army by tile, but then when battle is joined the army takes up a realistic amount of space on a tactical scale. If you have a fortress set into a mountain valley you can go ahead and recreate helms deep. But if "helms deep" is just a hole in the mountain wall 10 feet

It would be neat to have "god" dragons like the ones in Guild wars. There is one area whith a massive ice lake and if you look down through the surface there is a huge dragon frozen in the ice hibernating. In another area you can view these "mountains" in the distance that are actually the scale ridges on the tail of a massive dragon.

Whats a CiV style killer stack? I never got into the combat portion of that game much but I didn't play it for long.
That's the real problem with this style. Since every unit counts as 1 unit, and the limit is 8 units, top tier units are always better.
This is the main point. The whole reason we have killer stacks in the first place is because of the stack limits. In early game elite units are rare and can still be overwhelmed by large armies of normal units. Even if the elite units can't be defeated in one battle you can still wear them down using

The Ebberon setting for DnD has the concept of "holy" undead. That is undead animated by positive energy as opposed to negative energy. However if we go with the "Life" Life-and-or-Death system of magic from Elemental things get a bit muddled. Reanimating a corpse is putting life where it does not belong, thus death magic. Ressurecting that same corpse into its original alive state is still death magic. There would be no way to shoot things with laser beams composed of concentrated "g

In such a case you could split up the undead tag into two. The first tag would have to do with the unit being undead. The second tag would add all of the usual undead immunities. If you wanted to make an undead unit that was harmed by poison, you could leave out the undead immunity tag and only add the immunities that you want.
