These have been mentioned before, of course, but now that the game is becoming fairly stable and the maps are more interesting, I think a reminder is not out of line. First, it should be fairly straightforward to set a flag on units to indicate melee or ranged and the module that plunks the units down on the combat screen would check the flags and plunk down the melee units first. Second, I have found that the boats can be almost useful now for scouting/colonization. I don't think it would be

I hope that the upcoming Skyrim doesn't go the same route. One of the devs was talking about being inspired by the menue layout for the Apple music store and it gave me that sinking "we're going to streamline everything" feeling. It's just the way the culture is changing, I guess. We've gone from Frank Sinatra and Billie Holliday to Justin Beiber and Britney Spears. Games appear to be following the same path.
I have an Acer 2.4 gigahertz dual core (3 years old) desktop running Vista Ultimate 32 bit with an ATI 4650 graphics card - and, no, I'm not exaggerating. Playing Challenging on a large map with 7 other factions. On the good side, the game appears to be quite stable and the game has been quite interesting so far. Incidently, I hate those Sion crapweasels. Who are those guys? I had to use the Escape spell 3 times, regroup and attack again before finally taking down Magnar's main city.
I realize that 1.19e is a beta so expected the slowdown. I try to imagine I'm playing a game of tournament chess.[e digicons]:annoyed:[/e] On my very middle of the road computer I'm up to 5 minutes per turn ( turn 450+) and sometimes I forget what was going on the previous turn.
This is the best and most comprehensive review of DA 2 yet and certainly the most thoughtful and accurate. It's a refreshing change from the breathless reviews from so-called professional sites which appear to have been written by a marketing weasel from EA. It is a decent game if taken on it's own merits, but it's a shame nevertheless because Bioware is capable of doing so much better.
Dragon Age 2 judged on it's own merits is a very good game. I think that most criticism comes from the fact that it is not streamlined enough for the younger CoD crowd, while not challenging enough for us older hard core guys. I believe the majority of the people who play the game will be somewhere in between and will enjoy the game just fine.
I like Black-Knights idea regarding leadership, but leadership and heroism, while not mutually exclusive, are not the same. Cyrano deBergerac defeated one hundred men in a sword duel (substantiated by several witnesses). Audie Murphy killed, wounded or captured several hundred Germans. Untersturmfuerer Micheal Witman went storming into the Viller Bocage with his squad of four tanks and fought with such skill and bravery that he forced an entire armoured division to retreat. I think a good sys
I played the game at normal difficulty. The levels of the cities and the ZoC didn't make any difference. I think that it may have been caused by the fact that I like to create extensive caravan routes and max them out. I think it may be the caravans that are causing the excessive monster group spamming. I have noticed that when I only use caravans to build roads, there is hardly any monster spamming.
Okay, I just finished a game with beta ver 1.9e. The game ended at 287 AC. - a total of 552 turns on a large map. Starting at turn 13, one to three monster units appeared within my ZoC. During the game, I fought 1078 battles with roaming monster units and 12 ! battles with rival factions, destroying them (I used earthquake 4 times) winning the game with the Spell of Making because I was weary of the monster spamming. The game is coming along very nicely and seems to
Duty is it's own reward.
Lots of good suggestions, but the magic system also needs some love, otherwise the game just becomes a variation of tournament chess. The game is called War of Magic after all. Everyone seems to have forgotten that. Not everyone wants hardcore. They should also talk to Murteas who really understands the magic side.
The entire spell system needs to be revamped and adjusted. The team is well aware of this and once 1.2 is nailed down, they will take a careful look at it for ver 1.3.
In some of my games (ver 1.11), a female spouse of an opposing faction does use a bow to good effect fairly early on in the game. Unfortunately, I can't remember which factions, but the first time I encountered it, it came as a welcome, but rude, shock.
If anyone has an old joystick laying around and feel like giving it a workout. Evochron Mercenary is a nice adaptation and improvement on the original Privateer (the original - not the crappy Privateer 2).
I hope they also include a boob extender.
You bark like a dog. To be expected from Impulse's pet poodle.
If you get a response within 48 hours from support, you are truly blessed. Nobody contacted me for two weeks, and then it was from someone who obviously hadn't bothered to read my ticket. They then gave me a link which turned out to be the Impulse store! They like to appear all warm and fuzzy and then crap on you. Incidently, I bought nine games from Impulse in 3 months and expected something a little better.
I agree, the game has deteriorated considerably since 1.11 which was stable. I've been having the same experience with 1.19c. In addition, everything that made the game interesting is being stripped out of the game. Even without the stability issues, the game is souless, lifeless, and boring largely because all the magic is getting nerfed into oblivion. Taking out the Blink spell instead of just making it a higher level spell. Teleport now costs 40 mana!? Spell Immunity now is
I have spent more hours playing EWoM in the last couple of months than any other game on my hard drive. At release, the game was - WTF!?A couple of months ago it went up to B, and now it is a B+. Incidently, the only game I bought last year was Evochron Mercenary.
I am sad for all the hate for Junusk. He's actually a pretty good guy and even helped me out with my income tax. A lot of people don't know this, but he's also a good diesel mechanic.
We're not running out of oil per se, but once the easy oil starts to diminish, available oil (such as the huge reserves in Canada's oil sands) will need to be increasingly tapped. It'a very expensive to get out of the ground and creates a lot of dirty water and pollution. Incidently, the gentleman who stated huge reserves in Alaska was probably confusing the geography of that state with Canada's northern territories which lie beside it. Frankly, after comparing my grocery bill with the same i
I always play on large maps because I like to access all the features of the game. Incidently, I am still playing ver 1.1 and I have never had a crash with it or experienced any significant slowdowns even at 300 AC. I am looking forward to ver 1.2 although i would have liked the Blink spell to be left in (but make it a level 5 spell). As a magic user, I need to find or grab lots of shards.
Feed it Lots of beans.
Okay, it's year 359 AC and my little sorceress and her 4 kids (along with a fully buffed earth elemental) have been rolling up the kingdom of Altar for the last 550+ turns, capturing 37 of his settlements and whacking Relias 17 times. He has another 4 settlements somewhere. But here's the thing - for the entire time, the game has been spawning monster units every turn and taking up at least three quarters of the game play. Just wave after wave. Some of you may
In the game I just played there were plenty of resources but they were almost all located near the other factions' settlements. Many of them had three to five resources next to them. I believe Kael mentioned that the designers are working on a better distribution algorithm for resources in 1.2
