I'm gonna say no, though not by much. It's much better for me now than the previous versions, but it still freezes sometimes (annoyingly producing no reports to report :( ), plus that stuff others already posted. But it's seriously getting better! One more version before beta 2 could do it :)
SuperTimo
Hey it worked! Thanks a bunch! :)
Yeah, it's off :( I've tried fiddling with the graphics settings, but haven't found anything that helps so far.
I'm not really sure if this is supposed to be this way in the public version or something, but the pictures of my sovereign and his queen in the dynasty page are really fuzzy and dark, completely different than how they look in the screenshot posted by FrogBoy in the dev journal. <img src="http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/2418/elemental201005091001
I'm trying not to get too excited, but this version seems much, much better than the previous ones! I'm on turn 255 on my first game so far, and no problems yet. I haven't even been trying to win this time, just want to see how far I can get in tech trees and stuff until game crashes. It's been a tougher task than I thought :P So far I've got seven cities, four children and this random hero I recruited. And yeah, quests work much better. I'll have to play more, but so far it's looking
Seconded. A game from which every strategy game developer can and should learn :)
I think it is good news since it costs peanuts, is ready patched and bundled with dosbox so that you have to do no fiddling whatsoever to play it :) Just install, click shortcut, and vóila. This at least on my WinXP machine, no idea about Vista/7...
For me the best factions in a turn based strategy game were in Alpha Centauri [e digicons];)[/e] Why? Because they were each very distinct from one another I guess. You hated some (The Believers), feared some (The Hive) and wanted to be friends/subjugate some (University) because of what they were like. The leaders had personality :) So, if you can create something that makes players go "Oh I hate that guy! (computer faction) I always destroy them when I can!", then I think it can be worth
Yes they did. Had to get it, it'll be nice to play alongside Elemental beta while waiting for the finished game :)
For me it did, yeah. Game had crashed, and when I later loaded the autosave it was like that.
Same here, except not in combat: http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/820/elemental20100426091556.jpg http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/6830/elemental20100426091557.jpg
Sounds like the same kind of crash I had!
Same kind of crash I've been getting all the time in the beta :( http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6015557/Elemental0_302-2010-04-26T09-26-45-125.zip http://pastebin.com/vGxCgL4R
What the title says. Got the quest, killed the rats, went back and boom. Log: http://pastebin.com/RGJJ6x1T Dump: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6015557/Elemental0_302-2010-04-24T10-37-55-218.zip
I really hope there will be simultaneous turns. Otherwise the multiplayer games will take a loooooong time to finish, and not in a good way...
Well I mostly just wanted to see what kind of buildings I could build, and the AI didn't really do anything aggressive so I didn't need more units [e digicons][/e] I'm sure it's possible to rush and win in something like 30-50 turns. But the soldiers did seem a bit expensive, especially in terms of material. I'm sure it'll get tweaked a million times during the beta :)
I wondered about this too, but figured it's just part of the early beta, ie. they'll tweak it later when the build is more stable and there's time for such things. :)
I haven't tried that combat-oriented sovereign yet, interesting. I always just give mine all kinds of neat sounding skills, or magic books that turn out to be useless, and then lose against a single spider [e digicons][/e]
Yeah, I think I was a bit lucky there, usually I've had plenty of crashes too. But at least it's possible! :)
Yay, just managed to finish the game for the first time! No crashes at all, took me a bit less than an hour and about 200 turns. In the end I had seven cities and an army of about ten units. I recruited some basic soldiers, and got a couple of wolves and a knight from quests :) Sorry if I'm posting this on the wrong forum (feel free to move this!), but these aren't so much urgent bug reports rather than some casual observations. Here's a few observations: 1. Moving armie
Got this weird graphics bug: http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/5062/elemental20100414101506.jpg Don't know what more info to give really, but here's the save in which this happened: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6015557/mursu2.EleSav
Yet another crash when pressing "End Turn" Log: http://pastebin.com/NtVLzgHf Dump: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6015557/Elemental0_299-2010-04-13T15-07-01-750.zip
Yeah, the fun generally becomes from the fact that you can see, that this has the potential to be an awesome game :) So I guess it's more like anticipation of fun atm.
Looks very similar to the one I reported earlier, except this time it happened a lot later, well over 100 turns. Log: http://pastebin.com/33BpJ88j Dump: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6015557/Elemental0_299-2010-04-11T13-59-39-843.zip
I tried loading autosave, but that also crashes the game every time now. Here's the save: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6015557/AutoSave.EleSav
