Well my experience would be that the game won't run well on that kind of comp, unless you just use the cloth map, then it's fine. I've got a machine pretty similar, maybe a bit better, and I get under 10 fps late game with all video options as low as they can be set. But like it was said, let's wait for the next couple of patches before judging! :) (I like playing even with the cloth map btw)

That affinity thing didn't work for me either, nor did the patch released last night (the interim patch I assume?) I'd say it's definitely the cities that are causing the problems for me. When starting a new game my fps is comfortably around 30, but immediately when I build a city and a few buildings there, it drops to 10 when I'm viewing the city. When I move the view somewhere less populated, it goes back to 30. Later in game it's now around 3-5 fps over big cities, and 10-15 elsewhere :( H
I think the game is great fun with cloth map :) My comp (not a laptop, but probably has less power than many moder laptops...) keeps having trouble with the 3D, so I've set the cloth map zoom level so that the game uses it always except when zoomed very close. Battles run fine.
I'm using the cloth map only now, it's fine and fun to play :) But hopefully the 3D performance will be tweaked a bit in the future.
I switched from 1920x1080 fulscreen to 1360x768 windowed, and now it's playable, but just barely. FPS around 10-20. I have no shadows, no anti-aliasing, no depth of field, no particle effects, texture atlas size 1024x512, mip maps on default and no stylized lightning. Font smoothing is on because text becomes unreadable otherwise. Game looks like crap now and spell effects are invisible, but at least I can play.
Same here :( It's mostly fine in the beginning with not so much stuff on the map, but when the cities get bigger and the game progresses it becomes completely unplayable. I'm talking FPS less than one :( Cloth map works fine. I've turned all the graphic settings as low as they can go, makes no difference. Kinda disappointing, I was under the impression that it would work well even on low end machines. My specs: Intel Core 2 Duo 6400 2GB Ram Radeon 5770HD <
Summon bear is awesome :) I named mine Mr. Bubbles.
So you get two cities? Nice, but that "Found Kingdom" is still a bit misleading in that case since you already have your kingdom. Nitpicking, I know, sorry :P It is a nice change really, like Dekent said the ability was a bit weak before.
After ten minutes of testing I'm willing to declare the tile editor the best thing in any computer game ever! Amazing job Stardock guys! If the map editor and the ones not in our beta yet are of the same caliber there's no doubt Elemental will be the modding feast it's been advertised as :) Edit: I too almost despaired at the black screen when launching the editor :P But Task Manager didn't show elemental as not responding, so I waited a few minutes and it started up nicely :)
I started a new game, played for about a hundred rounds and then decided to check out the editors. So I went to main menu and selected workshops. Result: music starts looping and game crashes :( Dump: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6015557/Elemental0_98-2010-07-29T23-34-31-140.zip Debug: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6015557/debug6.err &n
I started a game as Procipinee/New Pariden. Had a city ready built at the beginning, and and it seems I can select "Found Kingdom" as Procipinee and sure enough it gives me a second city right at the start! Is this intentional, or some oversight? Seems odd founding my kingdom when I already have a city...
Happened to me too (made a report earlier)
I'm wondering about the randomness of maps in beta 3C now. It's the same map every time, but I guess that's how it's supposed to be now?
My main problem with the build is that there is just not enough stuff to kill (or the stuff dies too easily) Therefore, simply give some monsters a LOT more HP, and let the Heroes have the high stats and the combat speed.
Yeah, especially with a strongly magic-oriented sovereign this makes the beginning ridiculously easy. Frost bolt or two kills pretty much anything.
Deleting that file worked for me too :)
So I did this quest in a ruin where a big group of spiders attacked me. I won the tactical battle and it said I would get this magical armor as reward, but after the battle the game crashed to desktop :( Debug.err: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6015557/debug5.err Dump: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6015557/Elemental0_90-2010-07-18T15-32-07-
I like it :) Simple yet effective.
Um, why not just use the amount of moves units have on strategic map also in tactical combat, and combat speed as a number of attacks? That way you could get that heavy cavalry with lots of moves and few attacks, or a berserker with less moves but no armor and many attacks. This may be a stupid idea, since I haven't had a chance to test the newest beta yet and therefore have no idea what the tactical combat even looks like, but thinking about a simple solution this came to mind. And it leaves
But unfortunately it seems the graphics going wonky bug is still there :( (I haven't had time to test the new build myself)
Nice work :) It's great to see this kind of dedication from the community!
Sounds promising :)
I got mining technology in a trade from a CPU faction but couldn't construct mines. They didn't even show up in the construction screen. And now I can't research mining myself, so no metals for me :(
Yeah, it varies for me too. But seems somehow a little better now than before, it used to go really crazy for me sometimes, now it seems to do that "funny clouds"-thing mostly.
I like the fact that monsters now fight against each other, but it might need a bit of tuning... Next to my city there was a black widow leader who kept killing every single black widow drone that got near. Or is this simulating how some species of black widow females eat the males after mating? Just wanted to report that this problem is still there:
