Looks like the game is shaping up quite nicely!

*thumbs up*

Being a modder you can understand what Brad is talking about in an abstract way. As a designer he has engine limitations to deal with, and the modders have the same type of thing to deal with, because modders usually have less of a grasp of the game engine so they have to tinker with what they got. Modders can only go out of the boundaries so far before they start hitting walls. Sure, an intelligent modder can work miracles and completely alter a game to something new and refreshing, but that
I understand where Brad is coming from. I worked at an engineering firm for period during my life where we had to work with.. Budgets Designs Due Dates Software (What we used to build it on) That's why I'm kinda chilling back here because I can understand the stress - I really can. The budget can influence the design, the due date (possibly in relation to the budget) can influence the design, and the limitation of the software can i
What makes game design tedious, for me, isn't the sitting around dreaming up the perfect game. It's the compromises that have to be made because a given concept just won't work due to technical or budgetary reasons. It's hard to "kill your darlings". People who sit back and look at the flaws of a given game and say "But I suggested X" or think the "developers didn't listen!" usually have no inkling of the other challenges involved
I'm quite the opposite, I'm more of a writer/designer when it comes to games (probably comes from my D&D days when I was younger). I could sit there for hours and hours just cranking out ideas, designs, and lore. But, I do understand the whole close-knit mentality, it's similar to my old field (engineering - at least before the recession hit).
I've played the entire Civilization series pre-Civ5, and yes they are good games. I'll probably end up getting the new one at some point. But, there is one thing that I like about EWoM over Civ5. What is it? It's that new fresh feeling of playing something different than what's been out there already in the past decade. It's fun doing something new. :)
I actually would like to start in a random area with no special tiles around me, and part of the journey to start a new city is to find that prime real estate to call home. :)

But, whatever they do with it I'm sure I'll like it (in one degree or another :))
Looks good! :)
So the blatant bait and switch on the retail BOX doesn't bother you in the slightest?
That's what I thought it was going to be like when I looked at the box. I saw that large army attacking that dragon and thought that was what the battles were like in the game, at least concerning appearance.
I didn't read this entire thread, only the first few posts (don't have time - leaving!), but I thought that a good example would be like the Birthright game. It gave me the same type of vibe as what people wanted EWOM to do concerning showing a larger number of soldiers on the screen. Here's a couple screenshots.. <img src="http://www.gamershell.c
If makes me think that people who like MoM also may like Dom3, which is the same or similar crowd that wanted EWoM to be like those in depth as well.
I picked it over Civ 5 because I've played every single Civ plus expansions since the first original game. I'm pretty much.. Civ'd out.
Or at least have a 100 turn period of "Mourning" your spouse, until you can re-marry again.
Was that picture with the army and the dragon a part of the original combat system? I was always confused by that, and always expected to see it in the game.
I might end up getting MoM, it's one of the few on the list I haven't played yet. Played Dom3 to death, and still probably only touched about 25% of the game (it's deep, like people say).
The art team has done some great things, but some things have taken some really strange direction which really doesn't show all those assets in their best., like a really painterly world, but suddenly desaturated and green when it would look much better with more colour, and massive use of post effects that burn out the image which could be toned down a bit.
I agree, if they had a more painted look, like in the illustrations y
I was just watching a video on Youtube called "Let's Play Master of Magic" and I'm starting to really see the similarities between the two. Looks pretty fun actually. :)
I've never played Master of Magic, but what exact qualities are you looking for that you wished were also in WoM? I've been hearing so many people talk about MoM and wished WoM was more like it, but since I have nothing to go on myself (might actually go pick it up eventually here to see what the scoop is), it would be nice to hear. Rant away, I'd like to read this. :)
Work out bugs, Re-work mechanics (tactica, magic, etc) Balance, Polish, Balance, Polish Add rich content, lots and lots of content...while trying to also capture that ever elusive "charm/character" that the games we love all have. It's all in the details, no part of the game should feel like someone took a shortcut. Then re-release it (expansion/whatever) - call it "Elemental war of Magic: Redemt
I want this game to be good because it's doing something different, rather than the 10,001 other mainstream titles on the market that feel like carbon copies of each other with only minimal changes. This game has the platform to be something great, it just needs a lot more polish, better AI, more balanced, more stuff in it, etc. There are a lot of good qualities in the game, it's just very rough around the edges right now.
They should just make an option for those that want dynasty succession (if your sovereign dies, heir inherits). If you want it on, you can turn it on, if you want it off, leave it off. If it's on I would at least 1/2 the rate in which you have children, and your character can die from old age. Therefore, each and every one of your offspring is vital, since it's basically a chance to continue playing. If they should die, you lose that chance, and your not just losing just another champion. It'
